What a great day, that one! Wednesdayites had been taking the mickey out of Punton before the match because he was bold and looked about 80 years old. I was right in line at Bramall Lane End when he shot from the left wing, Springett thought he had it covered, but it sneaked in at the bottom corner!

Peter Wicks was Wendy's keeper that day

Didnt realise that the Everton match in 1970 was all ticket. I read that tickets for the Sheffield derby match in Feb 1967 (Bill Punton scoring in our 1-0 win) were sold out days before the match. Did you go to that one?

Yes I was there for that one but I had a season ticket so would not have been aware the match was all ticket.

Division 2

02.01.1978 Tottenham Hotspur home Drew 2-2

Spurs were promoted that season.
I had a season ticket from the next season 79-80 till the season after we sold deano and fjortoft (when I spat out my dummy) but couldn't stay away for long.

Supporting sheffield united is a way of life as you all know.

Night match sat in the Bramall Lane upper, against Leeds in the 70's been hooked ever since. Think we won 3-2 but the memory is starting to play tricks on me!!

1972 though, according to that.

My first match was seeing us stuff Chelsea 4-2 on the last day of the 92/93 season. Andy Scott scored on his debut and I think Whitehouse got two. We were 4-0 up until about the 85th minute too!
The Man City game was on the 12th of February & was watched by over 38000. The photo on the cover of the match programme that day is very interesting ..

Shows Israeli Minister of Defence Moshe Dayan, replete with signature eye patch, and looking chuffed to bits it must be said, highlight of his very eventful life, meeting the Blades players before the friendly game v Israel in Tel Aviv on the 2nd Feb 1972. Utd played another friendly prior to the Man City game, on the 8th Feb at home to Dynamo Kiev losing 2-1 in front of over 18000. Not bad for a friendly game & that season 71/72 we had, by our standards, some awesome attendances.

That must have been the 3-0 win on 17/8/71. Flynn, Colquhoun and Dearden scored.

Darren: Your help would be appreciated. Are you aware of any reason behind Dynamo Kiev's visit to the Lane in 1972. Was it part of tour they (Kiev) were on? Were there any connections between the clubs? Just seems to be a friendly out of the blue.
