So Adkins will be slinging his hook in May then?

McCabe doesn't like being challenged and the fans are mutinous. Will the meeting with the Prince go well, and his concerns be assuaged? A sacking could well happen. I bet they wish they'd given Clough another year and were appointing Adkins at the end of the season (if we weren't successful). Sheffield United are a reactive club, plans are a novelty for other clubs.

Almost all season, which is far from the norm. Adkins is not the shrinking violet that he can come across as in the media, he just prefers to deal with things behind closed doors. If you listen carefully to interviews during his tenure he alludes to almost everything I've said. The big concern for blades, if he is forced out, should be that the board operate a policy of conciliation with wasters at the club, and real, structural changes aren't implemented.

It was lost on translation.

They've been in on Sundays all season which *is not* unusual *for this manager* was my point.

They've been in on Sunday all season which *is* unusual *for most managers* was you're point, I think.

Anyway, cheers for the insight.

Lol

Scougall's on low wages compared to most of the squad, and loan fees have been demanded and haggled over. When you have few fringe players in demand, its hard to raise the money for your own signings, especially when your only getting interest in the low paid.

I really can't see a sacking.

McCabe has made all the right noises about Adkins, and the mutinous mob are "You're not fit to wear the shirt", not, "You're not fit to manage the team."

I think most fans who express an opinion support Adkins and blame the players.

Whoops, silly me.

He's tried to get the players out, but some of them cant be shifted for financial reasons, and won't take the wage cuts required to move on. Some are happy to sit on their ass as "Sheffield United" players. One of the more desirable ones, Scougall, is Adkins' passport to strengthening our team -he wont be let go for nothing (there's been considerable interest in him). Some young players are dropped just because he cannot expect them to go through the physical rigours required, without it potentially damaging them longer term. He's in an extremely uncomfortable position, because he has to ask players who don't want to play for him or the board to put in a shift. The players who are the problem are the most obvious ones, who have not put in much effort all season, have vanished, or have already moved on (not James Wallace). There are players who are claiming to be more hurt than they are as they look towards pastures new, and when they play are not seen on the pitch for weeks. He has already had these conversations with McCabe a long time ago, and the major surgery required has been put off. The board are/were well aware of the squad's general unhappiness with Clough's departure. Adkins is challenging everything behind the scenes, and could potentially modernise the footballing and administrative side of the club - if he and the board can ride out the current storm. His playing Cuveliar on tuesday was an act of desperation, he needs slowly ushering back in and felt a twinge after the Rochdale game. A nightmare

If that's that correct, then as a club it feels like we're having to start out all over again

What a bunch of bankers we have for so called professional football players

Pay em off?...........................they want sacking!

We are in more trouble than I thought, Scougall desirable Really?

Greenhill and Lowedges under 14s are weighing up a bid.

Without the loan fee its hard to justify shifting him because there wouldn't be scope to do our own business. Its brinkmanship that's going on, and it might run and run until the end of the window. Scougall still has a decent reputation surprisingly.

Well, there would be scope if the very rich owners would put more money in, but I assume that's off the agenda.

the ones who aren't performing should be made to go in Sundays just to fuck up their weekends, like they've been doing to ours.

Well, if this is from 'inside' then that's a little worrying isn't it?

We're going to buy all our new players from the sale of Scougall?

No, I'm talking about a loan fee and his wages funding more loan signings in this window.

Scougall is a decent player, just not for this division (perhaps any English division) or in this team. Loses the ball far too easily. Why he hasn't been put on a muscle-building programme from the get-go I'll never know. If yer gonna be that small you need to at least be strong.

Thanks for your snippets of info. How long until the season is over again? :(

yes it is, unfortunately, which worries me for for summer, because letting players go means no fee, and if the owners don't bank roll it, we are looking at "free agents" where we just pay wages, or non-league lads (although there are gems to be found there, I am sure)

Right.
Similar issue...Need to get Scoogs out to get more in.

Why not just get someone in if they're 'better' and willing to come and it could result in us hitting the play offs?

Sounds like Adkns is working under some strict sanctions...bit odd considering the club were saying they 'just failed' on actually buying some players in in the JTW...Scoogs was here then..

That's the problem with these vague pronouncements from the club. They don't seem to stack up later as you've just suggested.

He wants more than one more in. If you read the baptiste thread I put, "don't be surprised to see another" before it was reported by the Star. If Scoogs goes there might be two. Post 125 on big. Baptiste thread

In most other professions that the likes of us are employed in, if we are not performing or even trying the manager would get HR involved, set up a plan, all the s.m.a.r.t. stuff etc, and then if ther'es no improvement it's contract terminated. Footballers have it so cushy.
My boss would just sack em, and bring agency guys in. T&C, contracts whatever, he doesn't give a f**k.
And gets away with it.

Wouldn't be a bit surprised if Scougs is being very picky about where he'll move to (i.e. somewhere local so he doesn't have to up sticks, or back to the Edinburgh area).

Maybe Donny will up their loan fee offer (or whatever it was that was holding them back, financially), bearing in mind the dire straights they're in? Bloody hope so.

Yes, I understand that.

My point being, in JTW we were told we'd just missed out on targets etc, I'm guessing these would have cost money..now you're appear to be claiming that we need to get Scoogs out for 'a fee/freeing up wages', just to pay for a couple of loans in till the end of the season...

Thanks for your posts, they are interesting and informative.

So being forced to sell Murphy for £1.5M wasn't enough and he now has to fund any squad improvements with relatively tiny loan fees?

How does he know any money he receives for Scougall won't just be used to offset the annual deficit as the Murphy fee ultimately was?

What is the plan for the summer when he might need to sell £8M worth of players before he is allowed to sign anyone? The entire squad isn't worth £8M
