Could it have been Che? He was neutered & banished to a sort of defensive position in the wing after about the 15 or 20 minute mark for the rest of the game. Not that I remember seeing any indiscipline from him tbh.

This lot were shite under Clough - they are more shite under Adkins. Says lots for Adkins' motivational and tactical skills.

I mentioned briefly in the shout box, and it's probably a little harsh given his injury history but wow Cuvelier was shit. Off the pace of the game from about 5 mins in. Tubby little fucker as well.

I'd love to be as tubby as Cuvelier! He looks like he's spent the last 18 months doing weights in the gym, don't think there's an ounce of fat on him.

Its not just about running about like a madhead ,its also about football. That's not a slight on Basham who I like ,but even in his interview he said we have been playing 3 at the back and theyve done well ,so he takes Basham out and puts fucking Collins in ?? Coutts was the only one getting the ball down ,under control and actually playing football. The manager let them down tonight badly by changing players and formations ,his substitutions all season are a fucking joke and now hes critisising them in his interview to deflect pressure off him. He will lose the dressing room if he hasn't lost it already and hes losing the fans. hes lost one tonight ,Ive had enough of him.

I think he’s well within his right’s to criticise them. They’ve been atrocious and lacking in guts and resolve for too long. He’s been extremely protective of them affording them far more than they deserve. Losing the dressing room matters not if the ones he’s criticising are to be gone in the summer.

Sharp, Hammond, Woolford will stick by him. The rest are youths or his own signings. He has a chance to build a dressing room that is behind him. These lost have shown they haven’t bought into his methods or not been good enough to execute them for some time.

Take your pick ,very poor by the manager if he had a problem with one player come our with his name then you don't get this all this its him or him .the problem last night was the tactics and deployment of players ,the players just didn't buy into how he wanted them to play and rightly so ,after the 7th tactical change they were just bemused If that's the best he can come up with pack your bags Adkins and your pad flicking coaches and leave my great club . Tonight was t he start of next seasons survival fight .
We are in deep shit make no mistake .and it breaks my heart to say it ,U.T.B. F.T.P.s

Alternatively, you might argue that Adkins tried various combinations because the players failed to match up to the mighty Burton Albion and win any 50/50 balls or pass to teammates all night. As he said yesterday, players win football matches by showing more skill, stamina and desire than the opposition. Changing systems had little effect because we lost our individual battles all over the pitch. The players lack the combination of skill, stamina and desire to win those battles and must be moved on. It doesn’t matter which player he was talking about because none of them had a good game or imposed themselves on Burton at all.

Sorry Jehovah but I can't. I've really tried to convince myself that there is a player in there, to the extent that I have spent time just following him and him alone around the pitch, disregarding what was happening elsewhere. I know it's all about opinions but I don't see what he brings to the team. He has no pace, doesn't score goals and is weak defensively. Yes, he can pass a ball but nine times out of ten it's back to the player who passed to him, usually a defender. I have lost count of the number of times he has received the ball in space and played a first time pass back to the player who gave him the ball when the situation was crying out for him to turn and look to move the ball forward. That, to my mind, is what he is there for, to link defence to attack. I could forgive his defensive weaknesses if he looked to do this but he doesn't.

Like I say, I have tried really hard to see this "quality player" some people talk about but I can't. What am I missing?

Sorry mate I agree with you. I was being sarcy as I've always said I don't see what people see in him.

I'd say it was Collins. I was shocked at just how deep we were at times in the first half and he was the one dictating the defensive line. That in turn meant the wingbacks had to come deeper and so there was so much distance between them and midfield and no wide presence at all. Clough dropped Collins for playing deeper than instructed and not listening to instructions to push up. Why Adkins felt the need to put him back in is beyond me.

The midfield three pretty much played in their allotted positions as did the front two - the only obvious thing that wrecked 3-5-2 was how deep the defence played - hence it became a 3-2----3-2 and gave Burton the entire gap between midfield and defence to play in and allowed Duffy to run at us. That is the only thing I can think of and why we had to go 4 at the back.

i guess it was jsut a slip of the tongue from Mr A.
and what he meant to say was 'PLAYERS'.

no way can it only be the ONE.

If you take on 30 players at a club ,yet the only 3 who stick with you are who you have brought in ,I would have to say he has very poor management skills and under our monetary situation is definitely no good for Sheffield United. We are in the 3rd division ffs not some champions league outfit ,although we endeavour to be.

I'm not saying they will be the only 3. Just they will certainly stick with him. Basham spoke highly of him yesterday and who knows what the youths think of him? That's most of the players that will still be here next season.

Long had a good game :)

As a moment of history - would he have been your man of the match?
I was sat night closer than usual. He had a poor game. Didn't speak and in the first half, should have collected two through balls but didn't bother. Not did he bother telling his defender his intentions.

Any player who refused/ was unable to play to " the plan" should have been subbed as a matter of principle.

If Collins was the culprit then why wasn't it a simple matter to sub him and move Edgar back to defence in a Back 3 with McEveley and Basham or even a Back 4 with Brayford too?

Coutts was subbed but not until he had totally given up the ghost. Why not earlier?

I'm pretty sure it was Done and he wasn't subbed because he was the only player who had any energy or will to play even though it was anywhere bar left wing-back! If Adkins had subbed him there would have been a riot and he knew that.

I think Nigel Adkins doesn't know what's going to come out of his mouth until it's already out. He isn't a confident man.

He isn't
vocal enough, I definitely agree with you there. Not getting cover across for the short corners and not claiming one over hit free kick that Edgar headed over were instances where he could have done better in terms of organisation.

However I CANNOT believe you think he had a bad game. He made two fantastic saves, the one from the deflection was stunning and he came for and caught two dangerous balls in. I said it jokingly as you are quite vocal in your criticism of Long, but seriously if you think he played badly last night, for a League one 'keeper, then you have some sort of agenda against the lad that goes beyond opinion. Did his mum give you the brush off?

I am shocked that you pick on long. In a long list of what is wrong at the club Long must head that list

Yes I probably went to far with"bad game" to emphasize my point. I just don't rate him and I'm going to stop talking about him I think I've made my points before. As for his mum, yes, yes she did.

Don't use that word

She doesn't usually  He is very weak but a good shop stopper ,he doesn't clear his defence out and we defend far to deep because of this ,even worse when Collins endeavours to play.

Can't agree there, Collins performance was acceptable compared to the likes of Coutts who has the heart the size of a pea and Sharp, who I suspect was the ego maniac Adkins referred to.
could be all of em.

Think It was Edgar, international from a higher league =ego? He started in midfield but soon dropped back into CB making a four at the back. It doesn't help that Done started at left back and Adkins swapped the formation and team around constantly. For instance has Edgar played defensive midfield for us this season so far? So why decide to use him there now and expect it to work out?

My first thought was it was Collins, because at one point, Adkins was ranting at him (seriously) and Collins was ranting back. Second thought was Matty Done, because every so often, throughout the game, Mrs. G would nudge me and say "so where is Matt Done supposed to be playing?", then 10 minutes later, "is Matt Done supposed to be on the other wing?". Lastly, it could have been Coutts, but I might be saying that because he seemed knackered about five minutes into the second half and was over run by the much quicker Burton players.

One thing is for sure, Nigel Clough must have been sat in the dugout, thanking his guardian angel that he got the boot (or walked) from SUFC, into the Burton job, because the bulk of them were HIS team........

Haha fair play. As for his mum, definitely would!

Yup, I'd definitely get him on a new contract though - ideally as back up but I think he is now good enough in League One for us to use him if funds can be spent better elsewhere. as he gets older his confidence and the way he organises should improve - Kasper Schmeichel (sp) has done similar, he is not quite as vocal as his old man yet but he is less shy than he was when he broke through at Man City.

I really don't think Collins in the side helps him. I think he comes across as quiet and the bollockings he gets off Collins (often when Collins has fucked up) must intimidate him.

I'm amazed so many can come up with an answer. How can anyone determine which player wasn't adhering to the plan when it was just impossible for anyone to see what the bloody plan was?

I have never seen such a dis-jointed ramshackle performance as last night. Didn't know from one minute to the next where anyone was supposed to be playing.
Special mention to Baptiste though. That was one special cameo. Get him in for Saturday as he can't play like that two games running.

Too quiet you said it :( How do you know you would ? Too late anyway ;)
