Where would this season's Blades come in this seasons Championship?

I'm not sure how a team who make mistakes at the back every game and can't score are going to piss any league tbh. I suspect, with no injuries, we'd be 5th or 6th. We'll score more and concede less but our midfield is still going to be a major problem.

Part of what problem? Not being good enough for the Prem? We're talking Championship football and back up only??? Sharp, McGoldrick and Basham have been our best players this season! Lundstram leaving is a bonus, ill give you JOC wont be the same for a while and Berge will be sold. We will have muneh to spend regardless, im not worried in the slightest, im excited, cant wait UTB!

Have you seen who’s playing at the back recently ... and do you think they will be playing regular next season ?

agree, however this depends on how we set up. currently we pass the ball around the box and look for a finisher - thats been Billy for so long, and hes good at it - but its not Brewster or McB
we simply are not set up to play to their strengths, Brewster needs the space to operate in and McB is not a target man.

CW needs to understand their strengths, and build the system that works for them, rather than asking them to operate in the system we have
 
What's striking is the polarisation of opinions, on this specific thread, from a range of our fans. Top six, top ten, mid-table or lower half, everything is possible, so clearly no-one really knows. The key opinion is Wilder's. Not this season's Wilder because I wouldn't trust him to run a bath, at the moment, but the one of the previous four seasons. He must be objective, ruthless and forward thinking, if we are going to be successful. Make a mess this summer and it will be a long old season and probably his last.

As an aside, I think it's also vital the Pigs go down. Obviously, I want them to, but I also dread the games and last time we dropped four points, simply because it was 'that' game. Additionally, them being in our division can only work against us and increase pressure all round. Just imagine if they stay up and after 10 games, they're above us and we're both mid-table? The sense of panic and impending doom will only increase in those circumstances.

In summary. Over to you Wilder.

Basham has been poor by his standards for many games this season. McGoldrick and Sharp has not been anywhere near one of our best players and McGoldrick has played ok in patches. However they are approaching/ in their mid 30s.

By the same team I mean that, over the last two seasons we have struggled to replace our Championship promotion team and they still provide the majority if the team. That is a criticism of out recruitment policy. They are now two years older and we need 1st team players brought in and the 3 mentioned should be back up only. . We l

In effect we need at least 1 right sided centre half,a back up centre half for Egan( Jags should be leaving) at least 2 midfield players who can create in the final third and two strikers ( assuming Mouset will also leave) .

At the moment we are a pedestrian team that tries hard. My worry is that we will remain the same unless we refresh the squad with signings that are 1st team regulars rather than back up.

Who we will sign will also depend on whether Wilder decides to change formation

Huge summer for CW.
agree on Bash, Billy & McG, cant let em go, but cant put them down as starting 11 across a 46 game season
dont think JoC will go, no one will come in and offer good money till Jan
Egan is a concern, especially if Tarkovski moves from Burnley, agreed on Jags - keep as a coach
Berge would be a class above in this league, but again think he may go

so we need 3 or 4 defenders, couple of central midfielders (presuming Freeman doesnt come back) a no10 and a back up striker should Mousse leave - thats upto 9 players in, and whilst your at it Chrissy lad, figure out a system that gets the best out of Brew/McB - cos this one dont 'what do you get if you cross a £23million pound striker with our tactics = definition of insanity'

hope he's not piking off a cheeky week in Benidorm, gonna be a busy summer

Local derbies full stop seem to end up in draws. If we have to play Barnsley, Rotherham and Wednesday then it will only likely hinder us.

1. We are talking about this season
2. Ransdale, Basham, Bogle, Fleck, Norwood, Stevens, Baldock, Egan. Pretty sure most or all of those will be around next season.

Thought this was about how we would do next season ?
Out of those listed I would only pick out Norwood and Stevens for criticism but I believe they will play a positive part next season , Stevens has to sharpen up or get out.
As for Norwood every mistake he has made has been punished but it won’t be in the championship but maybe we will replace him with an upgrade ?

Provided you keep the majority of the current squad you should be well positioned for a play off at least. The problem you have is that you have stopped trying to play progressive football on the front foot and are now playing ultra defensive, cautious football as default. Breaking out of that mindset is the challenge.

barnsley might be swapping places with us also a chance of lincoln hull and donny all coming up so could be loads of local games

Watched Brentford last night against Wednesday while they didn't have to break sweat to beat Wednesday they didn't look that impressive, infact Wednesday had more of the ball but just don't have any goals in them.

Who i have seen recently and pretty confident we would beat them all, also not forgetting Bristol City who although we struggled a bit against they never actually looked like scoring against us.

Apart from when they broke away and had a 2 on 1 but made a mess of it
 
only my opinion but for me the premier league has got stronger and more difficult to stay in unless you can spend millions and millions and the championship has got weaker its a poor league just now and if we only lose a couple of players to bigger clubs and bring 5 or 6 in this summer i just cant see us not finishing in the top 6

Thats the main positive.
Wilder always makes sure all his teams are so well drilled....they play to a system..so every player knows exactly what to do...without thinking.
He‘s not had the time to prepare this season....so next season in theory we should be far better....and far fitter.
The negative is a lack of confidence...so we need to get off to a good start....then confidence will bounce back.

Hopefully with prep, the season should finish on time although the Euros going on this year, that should only have limited impact on the squad. Possible Scotland & Ireland call ups. Pre-Season could easily start late June/Early July adding in the call ups a few weeks later with rest. Meaning we should be well rested and organised for the next campaign.
 
8th-10th, were missing some very key players, and firing blanks.
I think 8th-10th is being generous, but I think we're far more suited to championship football currently.

Exactly they made a mess of it.
Its a Championship side you get away with it more than against Premiership sides. It was also the only real chance they created in the whole 90min.
 
I think some of you need to sit down and watch a few championship games it’s awful at the moment and in my opinion we would walk it.
The gulf between the championship and Premier league is huge so to even compare this season to what we will be playing next season is nuts. I watched Wednesday and Brentford and it was really really poor. We are much stronger than the last time we were in the division and the league is much weaker due to the lack of money being spent.
In my opinion we come in the top 2 with the same manager in charge.

LWB is a problem and we have huge problems in midfield only Fleck seems to be worth keeping. Up front I actually think we will be Ok McB, Brewster and Burke will be good enough backed up by Sharp and McGoldrick. The big question is can we keep hold of our best players O'Connell, Berge, Bogle, Baldock, Egan and Fleck I could see there being interest in any of these and you only have to look how the back up perform when these aren't available. I think those thinking we will piss the league are in for a rude awakening next season.
 
I genuinely think it's difficult to say although yes we have been leaking goals except the odd game it's not been that many more often than not a 1-0 loss etc. Billy has been scoring in the Prem and he would get extra space in the championship alongside others so I think the goalscorering situation would be fine. That said with the injuries on their day we could be torn apart by some of the championships better sides. Just outside of top 6 for me. UTB

Huge problems really? This squad is much much much stronger than when we went up. Bogle and Lowe are solid championship players as is Osborn. Yes we may need to look at the left side but it isn’t a “huge” problem. Yes we need to strengthen in midfield but I would still say a midfield of Fleck and Norwood is still better than most of what we will come up against.
come on guys I know this season has been a disaster but we will have crowds back, hopefully won’t have the number of injuries we have had and we will freshen the squad up. I really cannot understand why people would think we come outside the top 6. Of course I could be wrong but the evidence suggests we are very very strong.
