Where will our 10 wins come from?

Lets assume we will need 10 wins to stay up, where do we think they will come.

I'm thinking we need 1 win from

Villa
Norwich
Brighton
Southampton
Burnley
Bournmouth
Newcastle
Palace
West Ham
Watford

If we fail with any of those the perhaps

Everton
Leicester

After that I can't see us beating any of the top six or Wolves but who knows! We could even beat teams like Norwich or Villa twice! Feel free to disagree but I think Wilder will target certain matches and attack.

I think that just shows how difficult it is going to be.
 



We have to go into EVERY home game with the intention of winning. Even Man City and Liverpool have off days. We can beat anyone at Bramall Lane. Away points will be a nice bonus, so I hope we just enjoy them and give it a go rather than setting up too defensively.

Who are poorer sides? Norwich finished above us and Villa have spent 60 million on players already. Dont underestimate how difficult survival will be this season. I'm not being pessemistic here, I know we'll give it a go and hopefully give some of the big boys a bloody nose, but "expecting" to beat teams sounds a bit more Wednesday than United.
 
Not convinced on villa just cause there spending money doesn’t mean they’ll not go down there gonna lose abraham who scored all there goals.

Big bonus about Newcastle there not keeping Rondon and selling Perez and that long staff plus Rafa has gone , would say there big rivals for relegation now.

The ones who will finish in the bottom third. Poorer being a relative term, as we are no longer in League One.
 
Need to make the Lane a fortress.

Need to be beating the following at home...

AFCB
Palace
Newcastle
Norwich
Villa
Brighton
Southampton
West Ham
Burnley
Watford

Of those listed we should be aiming for at least a draw away too.

Then the following home games we can hope for a draw...

Arsenal*
Chelsea*
Everton
Leicester
Wolves*

The following games, home and away are write offs ..

Man U
Man C
Spurs
Liverpool

*No chance of a result away either

Honestly, if we beat City or Liverpool at the Lane it’ll be one of the biggest shocks in Premier League history. In the 1990s we could beat the very top sides. In 2006/7 we could discomfort them. Nowadays, the talent on display, the perfect pitches, the laws of the game, and now VAR mean it’s absolute miracle territory to beat these teams.

When Villa first set about spending money (and early on) I thought it would take them away from relegation too but they just haven't gone for any real Premiership players; Targett for example (may turn out to be a great signing) but on the face of it is a player with 30 odd Prem appearances under his belt for a team which conceded a lot of goals.

I presume you didn't see much of Man U last season. They're terrible by their own standards, we should be seeing that fixture as something to go for.
 



If lampard gets Chelsea (has he? It's a saga already) we have a chance in the first meeting to get something...

We got a lot of points by the big boys of the championship underestimating us, who says that won't happen again..

However, I think bournmouth will be really tough, they'll know a lot about us having watched Brooks extensively, they have seen us play a bit?..

It's gonna be tough, I fancy us to muddle through, top the league briefly in the first month even, then survive at the end..

Would agree on most of that, with the exception of Man U. I honestly don't think they have bottomed out yet and are there for the taking by a hungry, well organised and attacking team such as us. The other 3 will be very tough, but we may sneak a point. I also expect plenty of unexpected results either way, i.e we could sneak a shock win v Arsenal/Chelsea, then conceivably get absolutely absolutely spanked twice by Watford or Palace.

Looking forward to it in any case.
 
Although it's a step-up, let's not believe the hype that this is a division full of top sides. Last season there was quite a bit of expensive mediocrity outside of Man City and Liverpool.

Even Spurs, who finished top 4, slipped up 13 times which would indicate that they are vulnerable to anyone beating them on a given day. And why should anybody fear playing the likes of Arsenal at home? They were shown to be a soft-touch on their travels numerous times last season.

Similarly, Man U, as others have mentioned; they no longer have the 'fear factor' and that was a fixture I wanted at the Lane first up, as I think we could turn them over and get up and running.

We shouldn't underestimate the power of having a settled squad of players, most of whom have been here for 2 or 3 years, and who understand and are totally comfortable in the system that we play. Outside of the top 2, many of the clubs in the division are in flux with managerial changes and/or bring engaged in swapping overpriced and overrated 'Premier League' players around in the search for the right chemistry.

There are some brittle sides in the top flight and when you factor in the likelihood that many of them will enter games against us with the weight of fan and media expectation that 'they should be beating sides like Sheffield United', a lot of them will be in for an uncomfortable time against a together and well-drilled Blades team playing attacking football.
 
Don’t know how anyone can predict the results of matches months in advance.

Just to give an alternative view
We have excellent recent record at home against Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs.

In the last 40 years we’ve only lost 1 league match to Arsenal, 1 league match to Liverpool and not lost at home to Spurs (our last home defeat was 1975).
 
I guarantee that we'll beat one of the top six.

Probably Arsenal or Man Utd at Bramall Lane.
 
Take as many points as we can from those in and around us, those are the real big games. We'll get little to nothing from the top six, though a shock result may happen.

That's more like it Balham. Couple more wins in November and we'll be safe by Christmas. We can kick on after that.

The obligatory home 'scalp' (Chelsea), a big away win at a fellow promoted club and a victory over Wet Spam in an ill-tempered grudge match.

A couple of other wins elsewhere and some hard-fought draws should see us safe.

Piece of piss this football prediction lark.
