I think we’re in a position where another season in the Championship would be the best option. We have a lot of players who would massively benefit from a season being successful in the championship rather than an extremely tough season in the premier league.

GK- Cooper: 25, won’t hurt him having another season in the Championship, being successful and keeping clean sheets.

RB: Seriki: 22, Not ready for prem wingers yet, but I feel has a lot of potential. Another season in the champ would be a lot better than what the prem would be for him.

CB: Anel: I like Anel, but to see the best from Anel he needs a partner who will do carry a lot of the physical requirements (Souttar). We’ve also seen him be rinsed in the prem so we can’t honestly be confident with him.

CB: Sorry Robbo who I think has been brilliant for us, but I can’t see him being anything other that a squad player. If we were to go up we would absolutely need 3 new centre halves, 2 at a minimum. I’ve heard we’re after Darling and Dunne who are out of contract. 2 players who would massively benefit from a season in the championship with us. New club, tipped for relegation is not an easy thing for a defender, look at O’Shea at Ipswich, a good centre half who’s struggled all year. I’d love to see Souttar back as well and pick up where he left off in the championship at Xmas time.

LB- Burrows: 23, I love Burrows and people forget this is his debut champ season. He’s a quality footballer but I think he needs a consolation championship season rather than a step up to the prem which could finish him. Leif Davies / Alfie Doughty, quality left backs who have struggled with the defensive side when they’ve gone up. He would benefit from another season in the champ.

CM- Peck: 21, Brilliant season from Peck, obvious reasons why he’d benefit from another season developing in the championship.

CM- Arblaster: 21, Massive talent who would refuse a much needed championship loan if we were to go up. He needs to develop and he can’t do that in the prem. I’d love to see him in the championship with us next season playing well again.

Wing- Brooks: 21, I think he’s got great talent and has been quite hit and miss which is what you’d expect from a tricky young winger. Obvious reasons why he’d benefit.

Wing- We don’t have 2 wingers, another reason why it’s beneficial to stay in champ. Maybe Brewster but unless he accepts a serious pay cut, unfortunately I’d advocate for wishing him all the best and letting him leave.

CAM- O’Hare: 26, I like O’Hare and his workman-like nature has been missed since dropping to the bench. He lacks cutting edge, though, and for me wouldn’t be my starter in the prem.

ST- Campbell: 25 for me is the best striker we’ve had in years! He’s lethal in front of goal and when wilder takes him off for last 20 mins I lose my mind. However, I think wilder is managing his minutes, and you forget how young he is. Give him another season in championship with a target of 20 goals and go into prem with a 26/27 year old prime striker coming off his best season.

ST- Cannon: 22, I’ve not written him off yet (however he’s not made that easy) and for him he needs a year of stability in a league where he can score goals. I’d like to see Campbell and Cannon work a partnership in some way. Everton Leicester and us have seen something with cannon, that 3 sets of coaching staff with prem pedigree who’ve seen something. If we’re ever going to see it, it’s in the champ.

Mentions:
  • The 2 new wingers that we’ve never seen since they signed using the owners system, I’d like to them being used against some crap championship teams next season to see what they can do.
  • Ryan One, seems to be gathering some interest, may be worth a punt in champ.
  • Tom Davies, plagued by injury but we’ve seen some bright spots this season, prem would be too much and if we go up and I’d like to see him sent on loan anyway.

Obviously, if we stay down, we lose Anel, Souza and Hamer. I’d expect between 7-12m for Anel, between 13-17m for Souza and the same ball park for Hamer. They’re 3 players we’ve seen struggle in the premier league. I love all 3, but if we really want to stabilise in the prem, I’m not massively confident they can all do that for us. All 3 would do well in an already established prem team, though, but ultimately they will find it hard with us. That money could go a long way securing young hungry talent that can develop into prem players.

Manager; I may lose people here after looking at some of the messages on the forum, but for me I’d keep him. I seriously don’t like how he’s gone about the last week, it was a MASSIVE mistake to take on the fans after Oxford, where the majority were actually supportive after the final whistle. I can forgive the not changing the side between Oxford and Millwall because as he says that 11 did deliver the best 90 mins of the season v Coventry a couple weeks ago (feels like 5 years ago).

We are not as good as Burnley and Leeds, nowhere near in fact. Burnley scrape though a lot of games but have conceded 12 goals! Leeds are scintillating at times and are by far the best side in the league.

I’d love to go up! But it’s really not the end of the world at all if we don’t!

Posted this in another thread yesterday, can't remember which thread, but this is what we potentially have to work with in the summer if we're still in the championship.

I've added a few more youth players to this as well. Highlighted and ? are players that I'm not 100% certain will be here next season, and have removed all loans.

GK: Cooper, Faxon, A Davies?
RB: Seriki, Curtis
CB: Sasnauskas, Baptiste, Anel?, Robbo?, Freckleton?
LB: Burrows, McCallum, RND?
CM: Peck, Arblaster, Blacker, Souza?, T Davies?
CAM: O'Hare, Brewster?
RW: Brooks, Hampson
LW: Cacares, Nwachukwu, Hamer?
ST: Campbell, Moore, Cannon, Oné

It's not a bad starting point to continue the rebuild (we were never going to fully rebuild the squad in 1 season) in the summer, and maybe having 1 more season to continue rebuilding the squad in the summer in what will probably be a harder championship league.

Leeds look better this season than last season as their squad has had another season to get used to each other, even after losing Summerville (best player in the league last season), Rutter and Gray (their best young prospect).

Apparently the options on Choudhury and BBD are £5m (Choudhury) and £10m (BBD), I got those figures off of Blades Ramble stream (so they might not be accurate) if anyone asks.

Would anyone activate the options on both players for a combined £15m (or just 1), bearing in mind we'll have money to spend if Anel, Hamer and Souza leave, their performances this season should mean we could make a profit on all three.

How many of the players we'd like to keep will still be here?

If the new owners have serious money and are ambitious they won't want a firesale but players have their price.

We should get good money for those in question I'd imagine but it could mean another serious rebuild.

Cooper is one I'd worry about a little. Doubt he'll attract the bigger Prem clubs but could certainly see Leeds sniffing or Burnley if Trafford leaves. Likewise, whoever wins the play offs maybe.

Great post and nice to see a bit of positivity here after a disastrous week.
Agree with most of that but I'm not sure that a prem team would take a punt on Hamer. He'll be 28 by next season and given his build I think he's probably at his peak now which of course is top-level fir the championship.

The reason that Leeds and Burnley are going up (besides having a good defence) is they both have a lethal threat on each wing and they use them whoever they play.

Solomon and James > Leeds

Anthony and Edwards > Burnley

We dont have that threat well we could have if they were used more often....RakySaki and Brooks...............Brooks last started a game at Watford where he scored then he was binned.....Rakisaki scores and is ofetn binned off early in a game or not used in following games.

Let's not kid ourselves the Premier league is a massive cash grab even for one season, that money would pay for the new training facility probably and nit getting that would be a blow to the infrastructure.
At the expense of being a national embarassment again?

We may have that threat, but raki saki and brooks are played on the wrong wings, are not encouraged to get beyond their fullback on the outside and rarely receive the ball quickly enough to effect the play before it is passed backwards and the opposition have time to play chess and organise their defence.

Told last night by chairman of Plymouth that More has signed for Crystal Palace for £12m with £2m going to Plymouth,

We'd have won that game if Campbell had been lethal in front of goal yesterday, but unfortunately he panicked and shot high, wide, and not so handsome ;)

He was in the pub last night in Plymouth and he told us, 9 of us thought he was having a laugh, but one of his mates confirmed it who is a friend of cooper.

Cannot see him going there to sit on the bench whilst Dean Henderson occupies the first team spot

United reach the EPL.
How many of the current squad are definite starters for next season?
Every effort is made to keep them at the club.... and
How many of the current squad would you consider not good enough for that level?
Thank them kindly but tell them they're surplus to requirements.
Apply the same thoughts to the Manager and Staff...

I am still in the belief that until the very final whistle of United's final match,
the EPL is still in view. United will be on MOTD every week from August.

I think we’re exactly where we deserve to be. The way we’ve been playing since Souttar got injured…it’s a miracle that we’re even as high as we are…3rd is about right for me.

Yep Souttar injury...which led to Robinson coming back into the side.

With Souttar in the side we lost 2 games out of 16........12.5% loss ratio.

With Robinson in the side we lost 8 games out of 17.......47% loss ratio.

I wouldn't write your promotion chances off just yet as my team - Sunderland - are absolutely shocking and have been for weeks. I would very much doubt that if you win the semis you'll be playing us.

We also have a very poor recent record against Bristol City, Middlesbrough and Coventry - just to add to the Wearside gloom.

Doom and gloom is the best way to cope with such a catastrophic week for us. Top of the league and cruising going into the Oxford game…3 defeats in a row, flat on our arse and out of the autos one week later….Doesn’t bode well for t’play-offs does it.?

I can well understand why you are all so unhappy.
