These are truly dark days at Bramall Lane and we look as far off promotion as ever. People have their own opinions but for me the transfer window was a shambles. We lost our best player again and didn't do anywhere near enough to strengthen where was needed. Once again United tried to 'get by' and do things on the cheap. The soundbites from Phipps about "being in a great position with a great squad" look pretty silly now. Every fear that the United fans who were alarmed that we once again ended deadline day with no new players has manifested itself in the past two home games. It's the nativity that annoys me. Selling our best player, not re-investing the money and seemingly thinking we'd be ok when it was clear to most that we needed to strengthen in a number of areas .

I do get that Adkins wanted to give the players already here a chance but I imagine he is now regretting that decision. These players have let many a manager down and they won't change. There are no leaders in this squad, no guts, no bravery and whilst I don't doubt they have a 'great attitude' they simply lack the mental strength to play at a club who expect to achieve promotion.

It's hard to know where we go from here. I don't think we will get a better manager than Adkins but I don't think we will go up any time soon whilst the majority of squad are here. It really is incredible how we've got ourselves in such a state

Only way is down. But it's ok Phipps is dealing with it, he's sat counting the Murphy money

When you get 2 losses in a manner like this then you question what our board are doing. That was a fair chunk of change we got for Jamie and it best be used to get Burn and Hammond in.

Totally agree.

This transfer window ended the same way most of out others have since we've been in league one-with us being weaker by the end of it.

It's almost as if pattern has something to do with us not going up.

I do find it perversely funny how people seemed to be stunned that we are still in this league when we have sold our best player every single season we have been down here and not adequately replaced them.

We go in circles and invest the money in other areas of the team.

Sell a centre back and buy a right back. Lose a striker and sign a winger etc.

We have replaced them , but unfortunatley with quantity not quality . Thats what declining clubs do . Adkins will not want to be associated with a declining club , especially as other sides in league 1 , have had a turn over of 12 to 15 players ( getting rid of dead wood ) , and still acheived success .

Yes my worry is the team , but i am more worried about Adkins , if the board do not back him . Words are easy , but action and paying for it , has never been our forte at BDTBL .

enter excuses about wage bills and tea ladies. I'm off to look up the definition of game-changing again because I must have misinterpreted it.

Either that or we will sign a player for an undisclosed fee then Mr Phipps can post on Twitter how it was more than what is rumoured.

We might have a prince and a desso pitch, but the same depressing cycle of flogging the family silver followed by some bullshit rhetoric about reinvestment continues.

The only difference is Phippsy has replaced Kevin as the spin doctor.

Anyone missing average Jamie Murphy?

Where do we go from here? Bradford. On Sunday.

For the third season running we sold our best player and didn't replace him.

The board didn't get much of a backlash for the failure to reinvest the money we received when we cashed Murphy in because we were in good form and 'things were going well.'

True champions continue to invest and improve their squad even when 'things are going well.' The whole recruitment side of the club is so amateur, probably because there isn't a single person with a football background in the boardroom.

I think I heard that it means we no longer need to sell our best players.

I assume this means we're now just doing it for a laugh.

can we just not sell our worst players, and when they are all go, think of selling the good one?

There's surely no law against paying clubs to take players off your hands? "We'll give you £1.5m to take Higdon and buy a pie franchise for you?"

I honestly think that Saturday and tonight have highlighted that there is so much wrong with our whole set up.

Whilst Saturday was poor there was at least effort . Tonight's first half performance was a total and utter disgrace in every respect. Like most blades fans I can accept players who have an off day or even aren't that good but we got the piss taken out of us well and truly tonight especially in the first half .

So as well as some urgent recruitment , some off loading of crap , some home truths I would take the whole fuckin squad to the bottom of winnatts pass Castleton at first light tomorrow .. That's where I would take them.

Might be quite tempted to leave them there too.

This club certainly is one for the conspiracy theorists :tumbleweed::tumbleweed::tumbleweed: going nowhere with this team.

Wasn't sure we should've sacked Clough but I was sure we did it too late.

We then took ages to name a replacement and we unsurprisingly now look like a side who are months behind the rest.

Question marks over Adkins signings so far and an already bloated squad but we need players in desperately.

Movement. That's the key. Movement off the ball - we don't have any. We haven't had any since Danny Wilson's first season, when we had Williamson, Lowton, Ched et-al dancing circles around opposing players and playing give and goes. We must be such an easy team to defend against. It's just like watching dummies from Burton's shop window at times. That's why the ball is constantly played sideways and backwards.

Sacking our manager and starting from scratch whenever we fail in the play offs doesn't help, and can't be cheap. Wonder if Adkins will be given a second full season if we don't go up in his first? On past form, probably not.

There is nowhere to go. Another season of failure beckons. Any side that can lose three games already and concede 10 in the process has some obvious problems and ones that can't be fixed by a couple of loan signings. We're not good enough, simple as that.
