Where did "Dem" Blades come from?

This could be a very short thread, but where has "dem" come from?

I'm assuming some of you have much stronger Sheffield accents than I do, but do you ever come close to saying 'dem' rather than 'them?

I actually really like it, and the players seem to like too (a lot use it on social media, even missing the "Blades" part off the end at times)

Am I missing something? Dis, dem and dat sounds more like a southern chav that a broad Sheffielder to me so maybe its more of an urban thing?

Having never uttered 'dee' or 'daa' in my life, whilst being reminded that I am one almost every week, these things are often lost on me.

Can anyone cooler shine some light on this for me?
" Having never uttered 'dee' or 'daa' in my life, " Da what? Must be from Doowoh else Totleh! Teks alsooerts ;)

So its a dig at us for being common and working class?
Firstly I couldn't care less, I would rather be 'the peoples clubs but secondly (I won't name them) but there's some right shitholes that are predominantly pig areas.

So what high, mighty and classy area are you from?

I’m not sure tbh but if it was an insult it’ll be like most we embrace it and it backfires on the s6 lot 10 fold,on a side note no word of a lie I commented on a female Wednesday fans post she was in a Wednesday shirt and we’d been bantering on WhatsApp for months anyway I said summat in banter and inside 10 mins I had her mum dad brothers cousins etc calling me a shoreham cunt and they’d smash my head in 😂😂😂😂 they really are a touchy lot aren’t they, obsessed when we do summat banter when they do the same

It's like looking at the contacts on a 9v battery. You know you shouldn't but, that tingle.......

Its the old Sheffield way of saying a "th" as a "d" as in de dar etc
I must admit that on the very rare occasionally occurring occasion I may do exactly that ;)

The truly delightful delicious irony is that by using it as an insult to us Blades; the grunters are showing themselves as not being really "from Sheffield" or it would not be an insult.

Pretty sure I first saw it doing the rounds on Bladesmad. Then it graduated to twatter.

I blame it on Paddys. Think a lot of weird and wonderful Blades stuff came from that forum.

Who can forget Gay Ron Smeg.

If it really is the local phonetic spelling of “them Blades” it’s grammatically wrong. The correct form should be “those Blades” which transliterates as “Doze Blades”. But that doesn’t sound quite right.

When I’m commenting on us on here
I refer to us as Dem Blades
And them as Dem Pigs 🐷
I thought we were the working class club ( from Sheffield and working class who would have thunk it ehh )
I think 🤔 of us as the Athletico Madrid, working class , always put down , but always get up and go back for more
They think there Real Madrid , classy, up market , and above us , ( they did win the same trophy as Luton and oxford don’t forget 🙄)
when in effect there just a bunch of arrogant racists , with bankrupt morals and ideals
Bankrupt in fact sums them up perfectly

I thought the same, I thought it was more of a Sheffield thing than just a United one.

Maybe it goes hand in hand with when the pigs scoffed at our "pashun!"

Do they really think we speak differenter?

The song "oh when dem Blades" is sung in a unique style, with a bit of a wobbly Jamaican accent. I like it.

One of my old mum's favourite stories was about the woman who comes home and says to her husband " I 've been into Sheffield today and heard two women talking . At first I thought it was Chinese , but then I realised what they were saying "

" What were they saying "?

" They said "Oowashiwi "?
"Shiwahwierssen"
"Wahshi"?
"Ahshiwah"

:)

Incorrect. Look at the history of Sheffield Wednesday, formed by "little mesters" who were self employed steel workers, there's nothing about Sheffield United that's anymore 'working class' than Wednesday. And what about Sheff United being 'put down'? 😂😂 You've had a far more successful 20 years than us yet we've still turned up in our thousands, when you had your stint in League 1 you were getting 15,000, doesn't sound like you going back for more. You're making up your own propaganda. In reality we all live, work and play with/near eachother, you could be a blade in Parson Cross or an Owl on Manor and it wouldn't be unusual, the historical differences between the clubs are not significant enough to make the rivalry one of a class divide, it's no more of a class difference than it is religious or sectarian 😂 the rivalry is one of Sheffield industry - steel, it's one that thriveswm where it was founded, in the steelworks with ordinary working people, and everyone knows those are the facts. The only people who think otherwise are you piglets (funnily enough if you really want to look into it, the people who formed Sheff United were wealthy businessmen and owners of Bramall stain)

You aren't "the people's club" that's an absolute myth made up by you pigs, look into the history of the clubs and you'll see the working class roots of the steel city derby

You're just throwing out words, nothing you have put even makes sense.
You're just 'anger typing'.

We are 100% the peoples club in this city, and you making a profile, scurrying through our pages, and commenting on our threads just highlights it.

Oooohhhhh salty
Payed your players in full yet (3rd time in less than 2 years it’s happened)
Nar mind you could always sell your tent , so training facilities to pay back the season ticket holders 1,3,5,10 year deals , tick where applicable
still waiting to get there money back
good luck in your relegation battle just get those finances in before another points deduction, you and Derby the only 2 clubs to still do it btw
Ohh another thing the last time we played you in your death trap , you had to give owd ickle Sheffield United more tickets to bump up your attendance,
Stay classy Dim Pigs 🐷

I believe it came from the pigs trying to make us sound thick at some point but I might be very wrong....
Only the Pigs could be thick enough to think that calling us ‘Them Blades’ using Sheffield dialect would be offensive. 😂

It all started with that old fella who sits in the south stand he forgot to put his false teeth in for a League one game.

It always surprises me why they seemed embarrassed to include "Sheffield" in their original name.
They played outside the City until 1929 of course and now some want to revert back to "The Wednesday". They're arrogant "superiority" knows no bounds, even to their places of birth.
