Where did "Dem" Blades come from?

Fuck off pig, nobody is interested in you or your theories. There's more Owls in S2 bla bla fucking bla and you talk about propaganda, for example have you completed a survey of the football balance of S2 & S6 because if so I'm sure you'd be happy to share it on here?

Agree with you Hilly, who would have thought. Although I think the pigs will leave us alone now that HMS Piss the League is back on!!!

Incorrect. Look at the history of Sheffield Wednesday, formed by "little mesters" who were self employed steel workers, there's nothing about Sheffield United that's anymore 'working class' than Wednesday. And what about Sheff United being 'put down'? 😂😂 You've had a far more successful 20 years than us yet we've still turned up in our thousands, when you had your stint in League 1 you were getting 15,000, doesn't sound like you going back for more. You're making up your own propaganda. In reality we all live, work and play with/near eachother, you could be a blade in Parson Cross or an Owl on Manor and it wouldn't be unusual, the historical differences between the clubs are not significant enough to make the rivalry one of a class divide, it's no more of a class difference than it is religious or sectarian 😂 the rivalry is one of Sheffield industry - steel, it's one that thriveswm where it was founded, in the steelworks with ordinary working people, and everyone knows those are the facts. The only people who think otherwise are you piglets (funnily enough if you really want to look into it, the people who formed Sheff United were wealthy businessmen and owners of Bramall stain)
Wasn't you reformed in 1990 to avoid the aftermath of the Hillsborough disaster? Whoops I just went there. So your a fairly new club are you not?! 🤔

Newcastle away a certain bus load of drinking blades singing oh when dem blades in Jamaican style .started by the leader .end of thread

Certainly not going to turn this into an attendance debate grunter but you mention our attendances in league 1.

One question for you, how many were you pulling in in your first season in league one 10 years ago?

Come on enlighten us

There are various theories. The "th" becoming a "d" has occurred in many other Germanic languages, such as Dutch and German. So "the thunder" is "de donder" in Dutch, or "der Donner" in German. It could be a result of industry. Maybe it's like people in Barnsley saying "weekeet" and "creekeet" for "wicket" and "cricket", which was associated with people who worked down the mines.

That was my take on it.

Pig mates used to go "Ooh, you gonna see DEM Blades this week?"

Think it was their way of saying we're common and don't say "Them".

As football fans we're all common. Common as muck. Someone once said that rugby is a game for savages played by gentlemen, and football is a game for gentlemen played by savages. I mean, we don't say Bill Carling or Will Sharp, do we? :D

It always surprises me why they seemed embarrassed to include "Sheffield" in their original name.
They played outside the City until 1929 of course and now some want to revert back to "The Wednesday". They're arrogant "superiority" knows no bounds, even to their places of birth.
Explain how we're embarrassed to have 'Sheffield' in our name? "Sheffield Wednesday" was painted onto the roof of Olive Grove, as for playing outside of Sheffield; we played outside the boundaries for TWO years, we moved to Owlerton in 1899 and it became part of Sheffield 2 years later, not in 1929. Your lack of knowledge is what all you pigs seem to have in common

You're just throwing out words, nothing you have put even makes sense.
You're just 'anger typing'.

We are 100% the peoples club in this city, and you making a profile, scurrying through our pages, and commenting on our threads just highlights it.
Rather than buying into Ushited propaganda, try actually researching the club's and then you'll see that you're not "the people's club" and that it's just a complete myth

You sound like a 12 year old moron.
I don't believe you've ever read a book without pictures in it, let alone one on history.
Grow up, and feck off back to your own forum where they might find you more entertaining.

Definitely an old way of saying them. I don't think you hear as much broad Sheffield accents these days. Don't know whether that's good or bad.
I think that’s reight. Why do we think that is?

I think it is possibly due to like someone else said - due to American rubbish on tv.

And also the way language has developed. Listen to a young person interviewed on radio or tv. Their first word is often “So”.

Also lots of people travel about more these days. For work and leisure. As opposed to for instance working in the steelworks.

I want the Sheffield accent to stay. Let’s hope it does.

Dem Blades has been around forever.. People would often say after a good result "what about dem/them Blades", and still do.
I don't mind it, reminds me of a lot of the older members of my family who are no longer around.
I noticed it's creeping in to our Chris, haha.. you hear him say dis and dat in his interviews.

There must be some bored little piggies around. Suddenly making appearances when our great form has come to an end after 4 years.

It’s a bit embarrassing really, like joining in picking on some one after everyone else has joined in. Arrrrrrr pooor piggies

That's it, rather than actually acknowledge the true history just keep denying the facts and believe your own lies. It's always been that way hasn't it.

I deny everything you're saying because you debate like a toddler.

I know you're type though.
We were the pigs first, hark now hear is your song etc etc

Oh when Dem Blaaaaaades,
Go marchin iiiinnnnnnnn,
I wanna beeeeeeeee,
Right in dat numberrrrrrr

First time I heard that was Blackburn away when we lost 6-1 but Edwards got his 200th goal (1986?).

We were shite, as per usual, so several long sing-songs of "Oz a when Dem Blayyyydes, Goes a marchin in...." helped enliven spirits.

By the end of the game we had an extended dub version to make Bob Marley weep. And indeed, any right thinking music lover.
