Our scoring record continues to be very poor.

4th or 5th worst in the whole of the division last year and I think there's 15 better than us already this year.

A good defence will generally ensure that you don't lose too many games, but in order to win them [and put opposing defences on the back foot] you have to score goals - or look like you might.

Not nearly enough goals upfront and goals from midfield are increasingly, thin on the ground.

Discuss.

Ahh, but on the thread on the same theme started by REV many moons ago it has been pointed out ad infinitum that if we win every game 1-0 that's good enough.

However, as a young Stephen Hawking pointed out in one of his earliest works:

Not enough goals + not enough clean sheets = not enough points

If we're a bit more adventurous,i think we'll be suprised at how many more goals we'll score. This is down to the tactics of our manager more than anything, keeping our players on a leash in this division is not the way forward.

Tactics are part of it, but I think we only have one worthy striker in the squad at the moment. That's pretty hopeless for a team that expects to be free-scoring.

I wouldn't mind seeing Higdon partnered with McNulty,i think the only reason this hasn't happened is because we haven't had the players in the midfield to go 4-4-2.I admit we're atleast 1 striker short, possibly 2,but we have to atleast give these things a chance before we completely write the lad off.

It'll be okay. Money is being made available in the January Transfer Window for us to build the squad. And we are doing well in the Cup.

Whoever we get,if any, hope they've been getting some game time.because they are going to have to hit the ground running for us to advance back into the top 6.

Agree with this.We seem to be getting a lot of niggles this season and this isn't helping, but we still have some league one qualities in our ranks,it's using these to our advantages and to the best of their abilities in which the manager and players alike are struggling to do at the moment, unless it's a cup game obviously.

If we do get any signings,it's these players that are going to have to lift the players that are already at the club,a bit like last season with Brayford.I think it's obvious that the player won't be Brayford this season though as that would be a ridiculous fee for a league one Right Back, brilliant don't get me wrong, but too bigger risk if we weren't to go up.

I think the goals are going to come from the opposition

Which, in a sense, is a positive. If it is goals you want in a football match, then Sheffield United are definitely guaranteed to have goals in their games.

Not necessarily in the manner you want, mind, but hey. BRIGHTSIDE!

Patience, fellow Bladesmen. The deal of deals for Barry Oddnob is on the cusp of being finalised.

Really??
Your telling me that out of - Doyle, Reed, Wallace, Cuvelier, Scougal, Baxter and McGinn we can't pair two of them up for a 4-4-2 formation, you got to be kidding me?
I don't know who started that excuse buts its ridiculous, we play 4-5-1 because we have better midfielders then attackers!

That is apparently the case. Leaving Wallace out as he is never fit, there is no combination of the rest of the midfield that Clough trusts to play in a pair. He's probably right. We'd get overrun. Except for Doyle, none of the others have any physical presence.

But sadly none of them score goals or create any goals either. They have one goal between them this season in league games, and at most 2 or 3 assists. It's pathetic really, and probably the key reason why we never score many goals.

As people are probably sick of hearing from me, scrappy midgets do not win promotion.

As Grecian says, I have been pointing this problem out from day one, only to be told either that it doesn't matter because we'll win 1-0 all the time, or not to worry as Ryan Flynn will score 10 goals easily.

Wallace and Reed are the only 2 i would pair together myself,or in time, when not at CB,Basham can also play one of the two.

Right, here's where the problem is.Wallace is never fit,He hardly plays Reed, and like i say Basham plays CB,and none of the others could do the job required to only play 2 there. So no,we can't play 4-4-2,it wasn't me who started it,it was the managers recruitment, tactics he uses and the players he picks which unables us to play it.

The vast majority of our goal threats start with our wingers, we rarely have anyone big enough or strong enough to burst through the middle and go route one at goal, Wallace may be that player, but I am not sure we will see enough of him.

That's right. If you mark Campbell-Rice and Murphy out of the game, you've more or less ensured we aren't going to score unless Bob Harris can have a shot from distance.

Yep, although luckily, even with two markers, JCR and Murphy usually can get past their man. A strong, central attacking midfielder would be great.

We sound like on the same level as the demise of Tesco.
