The Prince in his justification of the situation cited all the European talent we could have had but for Wilders insistence of specific targets. We spent nothing (justifiably) in January so we could "use it better" this summer. We are now, after almost two windows, still stuck with same underperforming dross we had eighteen months ago. So where is all this wonderful foreign talent now? Where is the best use of the monies not spent in the last window? When will we actually show some sign we are looking for promotion rather than a second relegation? Ffs now is the time to back the manager, especially after selling Rammers. Come on Prince you talked the talk, now walk the walk!!!

.

FWIW, I think if you'd have stuck with Wilder you'd have gone straight back up.

The Wilder that left wasn't the Wilder we knew. He was very much mentally broken hence why he pointed the blame at others on his way out.

He says he sleeps soundly at night with the way things went down at the Lane but I beg to differ. He is just far too proud to admit he was at fault for anything.

Well Heckingbottom wasn't in a position to agree to any new players coming in, Slav is, the window is open, and funds are available, what's also important is its now obvious that more than a few have had their time, they aren't going to improve and other than being back up options from the bench, other clubs should be told they are available, time to trim the squad and wage budget

We tried. Wilder resigned three times. Not much else we could do really. Can’t keep a bloke in a job against his will

Didn't you try and force a DoF on him though?

Could have maybe recognized the job he did and appreciated it more, as opposed to trying to force him into operating in a way he didn't want to operate?

nope, wasn’t true that we wanted a director of football.

There was some incredibly mild private criticism of his stubbornness in his targets.

I think Slav needs a DoF, maybe put him in charge of picking the team and formation.

I don't, I think we'd have pretty much done this but it would have been a lot more jovial because even though we're honking, it was Wilder.

We would have been citing his previous shit starts as we progressed through the season being shit, and then it'd get to the point where we all realised it wasn't happening and we'd all get depressed.

We were absolutely appalling last season, truly broken mentally. We need to change at least half of the starting 11 to try and waft the stench of the arse burger that was Wilder and his team post lockdown away.

He’d lost the plot and the dressing room.

He might have got us back up eventually after a complete overhaul of the squad but he could no longer be trusted in the transfer market.

Slav has a top record in the Championship. Sadly he’s inherited an awful, unbalanced squad that Wilder left behind.

In the last few months before Wilder walked when it was obvious we were going down,he kept on about "sticking to the plan",and "keeping the team together", then walked as though the plan was not going to be kept, yet here we are with the team still together apart from those who wanted to go.

Didn't you try and force a DoF on him though?

That's the exact job we probably didn't want him to do! Wilder is the type of manager you want in when you have fuck all: underachieving squad? No money? Need someone to come in and perform miracles, sign a load of players for fuck all and turn seasons of shit into something spectacular? Chris is your man (not just with Sheffield United, but throughout his career).

What you eveidently don't want to do is give him a warchest and let him loose.

I don’t think anyone really knows what the actual disagreements were. There’s a lot of rumours and speculation, the DoF thing being one of them.

From the boards point of view last season, it was clear the transfer window hadn’t helped or improved us ahead of the season and perhaps this is where they might have suggested a bit of assistance in terms of scouting and sourcing players. Wilder did seem very intent on buying British players when perhaps there was better value to be found overseas.

I don’t think anyone is disputing the job Wilder did to get us to that point. Hence the board initially tried to keep Wilder despite him attempting to resign twice. I think the board’s ideal choice was to keep Wilder while offering to help him in the transfer market. It’s clear the Premier League took its toll on Wilder and it’s a different beast to the Championship.

Wilder, obviously wanted to keep full control of everything, which is fair enough but at some point something has to give and there was a parting of ways for the good of the club. I think Wider began to stamp his feet in the media when he didn’t get his own way. According to some rumours, the rift between him and the board started 2 or 3 seasons ago.

Certainly there’s a lot of things that we will probably never be privy to that went on behind the scenes. All we know for certain is that we didn’t improve the squad enough to be able to compete last season and the results showed that.

Wilder wasn't sacked, he quit. I thank Wilder for getting us into the Premiership but he is also the architect of our current situation. He was not the same person for the last 12 months of his tenure and I think things would only have got worse if he had been given a transfer budget and stuck around. He was a busted flush by the time he went and you knew things had gone wrong when it was reported that Alan Knill wouldn't travel on the coach with him.

What do you mean we tried? Whose we? were you there trying to convince him? Why do you think he resigned? It wasn't that he was fed up with being a manager, although you could tell from his press conferences that something was very wrong, it was because promises wern't being kept. "As long as we stick to the plan" is code for this. Where is the state of the art training ground??? Where are all the Euro players he turned down that SJ has to choose from? Where is the money we were saving for the Championship by not spending last January 'cos the Prince had given up on staying up? We posted a £17mil profit meaning that we have money and the players are on Championship money again meaning we are not doing a Sunderland. If he was manager last night that capitulation would not have happened, the players would have a clue what they were doing and where each other were, research would have been done into the set pieces and AK would have worked on defending them. It was an absolute shambles.

We as in Sheffield United, I support them, not Chris Wilder.

No one knows the ins and outs, it’s all based on speculation. Like much of your post.

We were and still are in a pandemic and lost a fortune because of it.

Wilder has never rebutted the comments the Prince made on Sky.

I dont fucking understand any of this, Wilder left, he tried to get sacked so he could pocket this £4million.

He knew then this squad wasn't good enough and that it wouldn't come back up, he didn't have the appetite for it. I don't want him back, I want the players to play for this manager.

This is a pointless post and not even sure why I waded in

.

You're missing that tiny issue between January and now where we dropped a division.

Why? Everyone knew in Jan that we were down. In December the board said money was available to strengthen if needed then that was pulled, ostensibly to be better used this window.Has it been?

So you don't think that there was an NDA in place? Pandemic or no Pandemic we posted a £17mil profit with the contracts retuning to Championship all the prize money was still there also as Sky still showed and charged for games hence the prize money available.

If anything the Prince said was false Wilder could have corrected it.

It wasn't that it was false is was that the Prince used his resignation as a statement of him not being interested. The resignations would have been due to the board not "sticking to the plan" the words Wilder used. Not sticking to the plan is changing the promises on stuff like the training facility which was lorded and now in a puff of smoke. The Prince wants someone who will go along with what he says holding his forelock not someone who stands upto him.

Wilder said last summer "Best ever transfer window"

Wilder has gone so everything is presumptions. The squad, excepting Davies, is Wilder's. He famously said he'd 'never spunk munneh'. I'd like him to describe what he would call what he did. It wasn't prudent that's for sure.

Wilder left because he knew he'd peaked and the team had peaked. What we're seeing is he knew was coming. It's awful. The swashbuckling attitude and free flowing football is long gone. His arrogance (in hindsight) cost us dearly. We'll never really know what happened with Duffy, but he's one of the more creative players I've personally seen at the club. Cracking player and could turn a game on his own. Sad how it turned out. But it would seem it was Wilder's way or no way.

I'll forever be grateful for those good times, though.
