When we aren't playing at our max we are an average side

When I saw there was no Duffy in the squad yesterday I knew it’d be a struggle. It’s fairly clear that if we only make 1 signing it has to be another attacking midfielder. Put all the resource into that and stick with the rest as it is. It might just be enough to see us in the play offs. We aren’t going to sign 3 quality Championship players at the top of the pitch, but we need one to replace Duffy.

My thoughts exactly, we do seem to struggle to create without Duffy against the better teams especially away from home.

I said similar things earlier this week and got shouted down with "he's a blade, he isn't bothered about money". He is fiercely ambitious. He's earned decent backing. If he doesn't get it he'll go

He's like some players we've had in the past. He has the potential to manage at the highest level and if we can't progress as a club then there'll come a point he has to make a very hard decision between personal ambition and the club he loves. If I were a player like say Kyle Walker I would love to play for the Blades, but I'm honest enough to say I'd need to find out how far I could take my own career even if it meant going elsewhere.

I'm sure Wilder will give us as much time as he can but we all know that if he keeps doing what he's doing then eventually some big offers will come up for him.

No comment on Cranie, but Coutts for McG looked an obvious choice to me. Wigan ran through our midfield repeatedly last week. Going away to a team of higher quality we needed to be tighter.

It’s a change I’d have made at half time last week.

I said the midfield 3 would be Fleck, Norwood and Coutts yesterday so I don't think that was an issue. I did suggest that McGoldrick would have been more suitable as Sharp's partner with that midfield because he can link between very well. Clarke and Sharp both want to be on the last defender where possible so there was a big gap and that was one of the reasons we struggled to create.
