A United side were 7 points clear at the top of a league with only 12 games left
playing like the best team by a mile in the league

I cant remember one

On this day in 1919 Sheffield United were 7 points clear at the top of the first division, trailed by Wolverhampton Wanderers. The Blades would go on to finish 3rd, with Everton making a late surge to clinch the title.
so they werent playing well then

There was no first division in 1919. There were only regional leagues. Everton weren't in our section.

have you got the opta stats on how we were playing ?:D
'Nudger' Fleck was running mid-field winning over doubters about signing another 5' 5" midfielder. The gamble on signing Sutton's disgraced reserve goalkeeper was also paying off. Letters to the Sheffield Independent complained that the Lane was like a library, and that its editors were biased against the Blades.

heard they were biased towards Thurgoland Hoyland and Elsecar (THE for short ) wednesday team from south barnsley

1876, having being top since July. We eventually won the Premiership title with a 15 point gap over 2nd placed MK Dons by virtue of a 2-0 win at Berwick. Ernest Needham and Dave Kitson got the goals.

Load of codswallop TD and you know it.
We weren't top until the first week of August.

I think I can finally say that we will win the league. I am with BTL that we cannot screw this position up with the team we have and the manager we have.

Even if Billy managed to become lame overnight I think there is enough fight and belief in the team to get us over the line with others chipping in where required. It's not like we have a load of players who think they are too good (like Williamson etc) this season. I genuinely think they would fight for promotion.

I bet on us to win for the first time ever at the weekend and it wasn't a jinx so I'm hoping this isn't the kiss of death.

Phew...... Thank god Wolves & Everton aren't in this league eh?

Surprised to see you posted this Tyz. Thought it would have been Blade too long along with the Northern Intermediate League table from week three of the 1968/1969 season as "proof".

I think Sirius said the last home game was a bit of an anti-climax because we lost 2-0 and the lap of honour after the game wasn't as good as it should have been
its an anti climax alright remember man utd winning a title and playing a much weakened team against west ham and losing but at least they got to see something shiny , pleases most mancs
