One for you historians out there.

When was the last time we played 2 home night matches in the same week, as we will be next week.

Can’t have happened very often

I’m guessing that Christmas would be the period it could happen, but Cappy (and I love your work by the way), he asked about 2 home matches at night which might be slightly more obscure🤔 and you’re now going to prove me wrong with stats in 3,2,1

Posted just after you replied Cappy

So I just ignored that he said home and ignored that he said night, but other than that did I get everything correct?

🤦🏼‍♂️
Or Utd

Or football

Or planet earth

Looking back from the late 90s, I found a few occasions that are somewhat in keeping with the question, some less so
Mon 13/01/2003 19:45 - Portsmouth (A)
Fri 17/01/2003 19:45 - Sheff W (H)
Same week, both at night, not both at home

Tues 09/12/2003 19:45 - Walsall (H)
Sat 13/12/2003 17:35 - Watford (H)
Depends on what is defined as "night"

Tues 12/04/2005 19:45 - Nottingham Forest (A)
Fri 15/04/2005 19:45 - Derby County (H)
Same week, both at night, not both at home

Tues 21/11/2017 19:45 - Fulham (H)
Sat 25/11/2017 17:30 - Birmingham (H)
Depends on what is defined as "night"

Weds 08/07/2020 18:00 - Wolves
Sat 11/07/2020 17:30 - Chelsea
Depends on what is defined as "night"

Tues 02/02/2021 18:00 - WBA
Sun 07/02/2021 19:15 - Chelsea

I'd argue that the last one in particular is valid. 6pm and 7:15pm kick offs are ones I'd describe as "night matches".

The first one of these is also interesting, in that they were not originally intended to be played in the same week. The Portsmouth game was postponed on Sat 11th Jan, I believe due to a waterlogged pitch. But because the game had been selected for broadcast by Sky, there was a huge effort made to play the game soon enough that it could still be on TV. So we played it 2 days later instead.

4:30 to 6pm = Tea time kick offs
7:15 to 8pm = Night matches

Actually, this happens quite frequently.

See for example this week: yesterday Arsenal played Juventus in the woman's UEFA cup, and then today, the Australia v India test match started.

Night games start at the earliest 7.45 pm. So come on Peter and tell us when. 😁

Ah, you said “night” matches. Hmm, that’s a good question!
And it must be dark night matches - not twilight night matches as in spring kickoffs . Also floodlights must be on prior tiy kick off and cars must have their headlights on - before they park up . Middle class children must have been read a book before turning in - whereas it is allowable that kids from Dinno may still roam the streets playing kick can and kidney punching the homeless .

Hope this helps ?

Coupled with this, I reckon we will have gone for 8 matches without a 3pm Saturday kickoff.
Stoke 26 October to Plymouth 14 December.

Got to be a world record??
