Every club, including those at the top of the Premier League, is a selling club these days because players have the money and most of the power in the game.
Posters on here who get hysterical every time we sell a player, or even are rumoured to be selling a player, are ignoring this and losing any sense of perspective.
It's also simply not the case that the money does not get reinvested in the team. Not always wisely – much of it has been blown on the contracts of dross brought in by the last two managers. But in addition to the amount we have paid the likes of Hammond, we have also paid out fees for Brayford (a very substantial sum), Done and others.
No Blades fan wants us to sell our best players any more than Liverpool fans, say, wanted them to sell Suarez.
I was incandescent over the two Kyles, especially Walker who didn't even want to go, and Deane/Fjortoft, and I am old enough to remember Jones and Birchenall too. DCL or Adams are totally different cases, more like Lee Morris or Slew. If Adams or DCL want to go, then sooner or later, probably sooner, they will go, but these are players who probably aren't even in the starting XI. If we are to get out of League 1 this season, it's not DCL or Adams that we will be relying on to do it, and the money we get for one of them should help us to do so as I believe Wilder has shown he will use it wisely.
