When was the last time we turned down bids and held on to a player?

It's rarely necessary. Just try to be a bit vague and maybe throw in a couple of sentences that aren't grammatically correct so the meaning gets partially lost but add a headline figure and say 'that's the going rate'.
'FACT' is a bit BM and rather passé.

Mmmmmm. The latest fad from BM is "so what you're saying" when that's not what's being said at all.

It's no wonder the highbrows on here are repulsed by the blades madders and their peasant ways.

It does make me laugh when fans attempt to defend the club for selling its best players, a few that have gone on to play for England and a host of players that have spent a large chunk of their careers in the Premiership while we as a club languish in League fucking One .................................as Pinchy would say Only inS2 :rolleyes::rolleyes:

Thought the latest fad from " BM " was another post about the pigs , attendance figures us v the pigs , or how long we've been in the pigs shadow . FACT . ;)

Once rejected a 44 groat bid from Leeds for William `Fatty` Foulkes, rising to 50 groats depending on International appearances.

Aye, but your nickname round Dublin is Big Ben.

Coz you're a massive bell.
When 800 years of oppression / or get the fuck out of our country isnt been shouted at me , by our lasses family .
That would be one of the milder insults thrown in my direction .
And i thought size didnt matter . :(

Every club, including those at the top of the Premier League, is a selling club these days because players have the money and most of the power in the game.
Posters on here who get hysterical every time we sell a player, or even are rumoured to be selling a player, are ignoring this and losing any sense of perspective.
It's also simply not the case that the money does not get reinvested in the team. Not always wisely – much of it has been blown on the contracts of dross brought in by the last two managers. But in addition to the amount we have paid the likes of Hammond, we have also paid out fees for Brayford (a very substantial sum), Done and others.
No Blades fan wants us to sell our best players any more than Liverpool fans, say, wanted them to sell Suarez.
I was incandescent over the two Kyles, especially Walker who didn't even want to go, and Deane/Fjortoft, and I am old enough to remember Jones and Birchenall too. DCL or Adams are totally different cases, more like Lee Morris or Slew. If Adams or DCL want to go, then sooner or later, probably sooner, they will go, but these are players who probably aren't even in the starting XI. If we are to get out of League 1 this season, it's not DCL or Adams that we will be relying on to do it, and the money we get for one of them should help us to do so as I believe Wilder has shown he will use it wisely.

We were holding out because Newton Heath were supposed to be coming in with a bid of 60 grosts if we also gave them Nudger Needham.
McCabe's grandad couldn't believe when it turned out that the cheeky fuckers only wanted half of our name.

What amazes me more than selling our best players is season after season loads of fans think we won't do it again

We'll always sell players. Richer clubs will always pick off our best players. Look at Spurs, during the period they went from being a regular mid table side to challenging for the top 4, they kept losing players like Carrick and Berbatov to Man U. Then they get top 4, do well in the CL and lose Modric and Bale. If they can't sustain regular CL football they'll lose Dier, Alli and maybe even Kane.
Same with Southampton, their supporters must have pulled their hair out by now. Every fucking season.
I doubt we'll be better than those two in my lifetime so we'll always sell players.

I thought as much mate, wasn't it during or just prior to the premiership season. Interest from Pompey, was it?

West Ham and Wigan came in for him during our promotion season. We turned their bids down. Jagielka was OK with it because he could see the club were showing some ambition and having a right go at promotion and shock horror, we got promoted. Yet we've never tried the approach since.

Ah but Spurs have a structure in place where there is a continuity in strategy in terms of player recruitment independent from the manager or Head Coach as it were in their case. We sack managers as if we have this structure but what we are actually doing is ripping up the entire plan and starting again every season whilst selling any player who has impressed the previous season. The only surprise should be that it hasn't seen us relegated to League 2 yet.
