I read about that goal in the Morning Telegraph archives about 15 years ago. Midweek match it was. Cant think of anyone else who has scored from further.Graham Shaw, Sept 1960, free-kick v Portsmouth, Lane End, scored from the half-way line. Has any United player ever scored from further out?

Needless to say it was a total fluke. Keeper was off his line, and (goalkeepers' Union defence), the ball went high into the night sky (the floodlights were poor in those days), and by the time he picked up the flight of the ball he couldn't get close to it.I read about that goal in the Morning Telegraph archives about 15 years ago. I was sat here thinking "Yeh it was Walsall he scored, or was it Crewe?"Crewe
Woodward - more than a dozen
Currie - about 10 times
Matthews - at least 3
Trusson - ditto
Is drink involved?I was sat here thinking "Yeh it was Walsall he scored, or was it Crewe?"
Even though I was there, I've always been unsure which of the two it was. No idea why![]()
At least 3 times? I was a Lane part timer for most of the 1980s. Can only think of the equaliser against Millwall at home. Keeper failed to hold the shot.Beagrie?
That was back when I was only about 16 and went to away games on the official coaches, so noIs drink involved?![]()

I think he scored two from outside the box against Hull (?) in a boxing day match or at least that time of yearAt least 3 times? I was a Lane part timer for most of the 1980s. Can only think of the equaliser against Millwall at home. Keeper failed to hold the shot.

I was at the match too, thought they were just inside the box? Good goals thoughI think he scored two from outside the box against Hull (?) in a boxing day match or at least that time of year
You might be right. Did it end 4-2 ?I was at the match too, thought they were just inside the box? Good goals though
YesYou might be right. Did it end 4-2 ?
With a tit wank?Does a titwank count ?
Happy to oblige
I think you're right tbh. I think that's why young Nathan Thomas didn't work out - he was too fond of having a pop from outside the box. Our style is to try and walk it in, it's like "death of a thousand cuts". I like the passing football and possession stuff, but it would be nice if we did have a pop more often.Lee Evans's volley against Boro towards the end of last season, probably.
What percentage of long shots actually go in? I think Wilder prefers the team to pass the ball around and try to create good scoring chances, rather than hit and hope.
Well yes, now there's a bloke who could take a corner and shoot from any distance. I used to love to see him bend them with the inside or outside of his foot from the corner, depending on which side he was taking them from. We've got idiots who say corners are a waste of time as they don't provide goals and now long range shots are pointless. They're very lucky Woody's not alive to hear them talk such fucking nonsense.
