When did we last score outside the box?

I read about that goal in the Morning Telegraph archives about 15 years ago. Midweek match it was. Cant think of anyone else who has scored from further.
Needless to say it was a total fluke. Keeper was off his line, and (goalkeepers' Union defence), the ball went high into the night sky (the floodlights were poor in those days), and by the time he picked up the flight of the ball he couldn't get close to it.

At least 3 times? I was a Lane part timer for most of the 1980s. Can only think of the equaliser against Millwall at home. Keeper failed to hold the shot.
I think he scored two from outside the box against Hull (?) in a boxing day match or at least that time of year

Tri Dellas another one, against Portsmouth one year, i believe

There's no reason why professional footballers shouldn't be able to routinely and repeatedly hit the target from outside the box when a chance appears. Often its not the shot that goes in but the keeper rebounds and parries that create further opportunities. With natural strikers like Sharp we should be crying out for these chances. How many times do keepers keep hold of a shot nowadays?

Lee Evans's volley against Boro towards the end of last season, probably.

What percentage of long shots actually go in? I think Wilder prefers the team to pass the ball around and try to create good scoring chances, rather than hit and hope.
I think you're right tbh. I think that's why young Nathan Thomas didn't work out - he was too fond of having a pop from outside the box. Our style is to try and walk it in, it's like "death of a thousand cuts". I like the passing football and possession stuff, but it would be nice if we did have a pop more often.

We've got idiots who say corners are a waste of time as they don't provide goals and now long range shots are pointless. They're very lucky Woody's not alive to hear them talk such fucking nonsense.
Well yes, now there's a bloke who could take a corner and shoot from any distance. I used to love to see him bend them with the inside or outside of his foot from the corner, depending on which side he was taking them from.

It is a fact though that corners don't produce as many goals as most fans seem to believe, however, we should be able to create more of a threat from them than we do. Whatever happened to having a big bloke at the near post who heads it backwards across the goal? I don't think I've seen us try that simple tactic for years - and it is usually very effective.

The ‘shoooooot’ brigade have never played football, have they?

Evan's goal last season being the mother of all scorchers?
