What's your dullest anecdote about meeting a footballer?

When he was with us, Paddy Kenny used to get his hair cut at the bottom of Woodhouse. Saw him once or twice, but I started doing mine at home so didn't go in there anymore
He probably went there because his Uncle Neil told him to.

Another one for you which was really surreal at the time.

I had some time to kill and was near Shirecliffe so thought I’d see if I could watch training (pre-season I think, sun was out). David Weir had just taken over.

So I parked up, walked over to where the first team were training and asked one of the staff if it was ok to watch. No problem he said. So I sat on the grass and watched the last part of the training session.

Next thing Lee Carsley I think it was, came over to me and asked if I fancied a brew. He took me into the canteen in the academy building and got me a cuppa, then took me in to an office with him and Weir, where they asked some questions about the club, fans, area, that sort of thing. Both nice fellas.

After a few minutes we went out and sat in the canteen area on some tables with the players and they offered me some breakfast. All the players were having their scrambled eggs and whatever. So I got stuck in, sat watching Sky Sports News while the management team and players had a team meeting.

Weird story I know, but true.
I'm working on his neighbours house at the minute. I've been wondering what I can say to him if I see him, apart from I'm a Blade. I might bring this story up and see if he remembers 🤣.

Saw Jordan Pickford in the queue to board at plane at Gatwick Airport. Took me 5 minutes to decide if it was actually him and by that time he had got on the plane.

Was wearing a designer bucket hat.

Saw Jon Harley in a Chinese restaurant on London Road. Would have been Jan 2005 I think? Memory is a bit hazy now

My former stepdad worked in a cigarette factory in Nottingham with Steve Cherry, former Notts goalkeeper who I met at some works charity game that Des Walker was invited to.

He scored his play off own goal soon after that...

Met John Joe O'Toole WHAT A PLAYER in a lift at The Copthorne and I said "Hi John", he said "hello mate"

In the Varsity pub near the University of Warwick. About 1989. At the urinal with me knob out, bloke sidles up next to me. It’s Liverpool centre back legend and Scottish international superstar Alan Hansen. Looked him in the eyes as he’s undoing his zip and said, “Alan!”
Finished, weshed me hands, left him to it and walked out.

CBA to search but does this thread have that story of a Blade who was working at the Sty, during a relegation season for them lot. I recall he was there to sort some construction work, fitting work, or summat. He’s in a lift and the doors open. In walks Big Jack Charlton. Lad looks at him, hovers the finger over the lift buttons and says, “Going down?”

Classic 👏👏👏

Once saw Emlyn Hughes at a theatre, he was sat on my row. He said " excuse me" , I moved.
I once saw Emlyn Hughes play in a charity match in a village down south. Also playing was Ian Beale from Eastenders.

Met Luke Freeman in Gentings Casino in town the night after Liverpool beat us at lane when Henderson chucked it in his own net. Nice bloke but didn’t have a clue how to play blackjack.

Billy Punton on Whitby East pier the day after he'd scored the winner at the Lane against Wednesday, never felt the same again.
