What's your dullest anecdote about meeting a footballer?

Saw Del Geary and Michael Tonge at that barbers in Broomhill where the barber had a sensational tache, c. 2006. Didn’t say owt to either of them but did say to my mate afterwards who it was.

Saw Warnock sat outside a bar on Eccy Road about a week after relegation in 2007, said ‘hey up Neil’ and he replied ‘how’s it going’.

Great stories.

Was drinking with a mate in the rising sun on abbey lane.
imre varadi came in with his girlfriend, my mate got up to go to the toilet and varadi nicked his seat for his girlfriend, mate came back asked for his seat back, varadi said my mate should show more courtesy and give his seat up for a lady. Mate says, can’t be much of a lady to go out with you, knocked his pint over varadi smiled and went to the bar to get another pint.

I once helped David Moyes buy a pair of shorts. Half an hour later Strachan walked in, also shopping for shorts.

The Scottish open was on and it was uncharacteristically hot.

What kind of twat needs help buying shorts?

"Scuse me, do you have something in black with holes for legs to go through?"

By help with I basically mean: I showed him where they were. It was one of the big out of town M&S stores.

Saw Billy Sharp in the Card Factory just off the parkway yesterday, there were no nods or conversation.

Was in the Wildcard with a mate, and he said Sander Berge was behind me but couldn't turn round as he'd notice, so i didn't. I did sneak a look later and he'd moved upstairs, looked like he was with his brother.

I think his brother’s called Bandsaw.

The whole Dutch squad were 10m away from me using our pool in Qatar as they were getting harassed in the hotel daily. I walked out, security tells me I can't use the pool until 1230, I nod, go sit down and wait til they leave.

A few years back in the Apple store in meadowhall, standing in the genius bar queue or whatever it's called. Suddenly there was less daylight coming from the door behind me and I realized someone had joined the queue. I glanced round to find myself looking at Chris Morgan.

I turned back round and started thinking up some funny conversational opener I could make that would make us best mates, then turned round, saw his expression and settled on a nod.

He nodded back.

That's a downright lie. Everyone knows Morgan uses one of these . To him an iPad is just a notepad with a penholder built in

Worked at B&Q when I was a teenager and served the great TC some bedding plants.

My mum was a teacher in Sheffield and TC would occasionally do a bit of footy with the kids at the school so I got to join in once or twice.

I am meeting Paul McVeigh (ex Spurs and Norwich, scored against us one Boxing Day) tomorrow to discuss leadership development. I appreciate that this has happened yet, but I expect it to be dull.

And once sat beside Gordon Strachan when his grandson was playing in same team as juniors. But, it wasn’t dull because he’s an interesting chap and pleasant company.

Thrilling one yesterday for me. Saw ex-Blade prospect Nicky Law at school pick up time, he’s over visiting family for Christmas and was picking his nephew and niece up with one of his brothers.

I asked him how life in Florida was treating him and he told peeked out from behind his Canada Goose coat and beanie to say “warmer than here mate”.

Priceless content.

Back in 2006, the flight from Helsinki to Manchester weirdly stopped in Stockholm and due to Schengen-non-Schengen you had to get off and wait a while before continuing.

One time when sitting in the waiting area I looked up and saw Sami Hyypiä and Shefki Kuqi sitting together (they’d been in Helsinki for an international friendly). A few people were asking Hyypiä for his autograph while totally blanking Kuqi 😆

In my mind I thought I’d go up to them and ask Kuqi how it had been to play for the shit of Sheffield and wish Hyypiä bad luck for tomorrow as Blades were due to play Liverpool the next day.

Obviously I chickened out, but I did hurl some abuse at Hyypiä from the safety of the Kop the next day.

Saw Richard Cresswell (as pig), In club wow...

He was trying to snaffle up some lady in our group, who basically told him to fuckoff lol.

Saw Ndiaye in Tesco yesterday. He's a titch. Didn't realise he was a family man. Looked happy and relaxed. Did not approach him.
Don't you go to games, or do you leave early? His partner with baby always come down to the the corner of Bramall Lane/John Street and get a kiss from him as he walks round the ground to applaud the fans.

Enjoyed reading these. Some funny ones!

I once saw Mousset in his Lambo as I crossed the road at Hunters Bar. I waved, he didn’t wave back… Whenever I saw him thereafter, I didn’t bother waving again.

Drunkenly met Chris Wilder at a Hallam game a few years ago and got a pic with him etc. Chatted about the match which ended up something like 5-4 to Hallam and United. He was with his mrs and mates and were having a bit of a knees up. I actually saw him in pubs a few times when I lived in S10.

I was walking behind Baldock (smaller than I thought) and his Mrs in Endcliffe Park a couple of years ago. They stopped to let me pass, as they were dawdling. I said “thanks”, he said “no worries”.

Simon Moore and George Long in Broomhill. Used to see both a fair amount just walking about. Think they lived on Manchester Road (not together). Simon Moore once nearly run me over as I crossed the junction of Ashdell Road on Glossop Road.

Billy Sharp after our FA Cup win against Charlton, under Clough, stood outside Forum in the garden. Gave him a nod. We latterly went in to Common Room and Brayford was in there with his family. Asked him who he wanted in the next round of the cup and he said “Man City”. Precious moments.

Seen loads of other players out and about but they’re even more boring than the above.

Saw John Fleck a few weeks ago walking into Marks & Spencer on Ecclesall Road as I was walking out. We sort of half smiled at each other. It was while he was out injured though he seemed to be walking fine.

While walking out of social club (Now Hall of Fame) walked straight into Billy Whitehurst nearly flattened him as we where both looking other way he apologised with "Sorry big man" I said "no worries mate" great memories

I do rather like the idea of all United's goalies living in a house together in a Davey Jones Viz sort of way.
