What's With the 'Massive' Attitude?

Some of the comments being made about Bournemouth are laughable. There seems to be a mentality with some of our fans that the only clubs who are allowed to be successful are ones with a traditionally large fanbase and ones who have been in the top flight and/or won competitions in the past.

I find it incredibly patronising. Especially because it's basically saying that fans of smaller clubs aren't proper fans and aren't supporting a proper club.

For those with poor memories, the last time we spent four seasons in the top flight was in the early '70s. The last time we won a major competition was in 1925. Some people are still living off us being a 19th century powerhouse.

It's as bad as the usual tripe we hear from over in S6. It smacks of jealousy, plain and simple.

But I’ll never accept United losing players we’d like to keep to such small seaside town clubs like Bournemouth.

There is no way Sheffield United should be losing players to Bournemouth, irrespective of which division they’re in.

Chucking money at it and against the odds actually striking lucky. In Bornemouth’s case by ignoring the FFP rules I believe and getting to the
Premier League.

The FFP really pisses me off. Either the FA & PL enforce it or scrap it. It's a face as things stand.

Everton were historically the dominant Liverpool club until the 1950s & 60s. Burnley and Wolves were a major force at that time. The ebb and flow of teams has always happened. It’s only accelerated with the advent of millionaire / billionaire ownership. Bournemouth are a far bigger draw than us simply because they are established in the Premier League and have a owner with very deep pockets, they pay the PL money and have an outstanding young manager. They’ve got facilities and resources which are far beyond us. Anyone who thinks SUFC would be a bigger draw to any player is deluding themselves. Size of crowds means fuck all these days, even more so in the PL it makes up a fraction of income.

If a team gets a generous benefactor, then that's great for them. I'll point you to any number of posts decrying McCabe for not spending more. Selling club eh? Sell up McCabe let's get some Saudi money and buy some talent in.

I remember Bournemouth playing the lamb to the slaughter as we went up. They brought more seagulls than fans. They are a proper club as all clubs are but they cheated their way to the Prem and I can't wait for today's Wimbledon to become today's Wimbledon.

.... the system is now that crap level Premier League sides buy talent from the likes of us .... hold onto them till the bigger teams have time to see how they might fit into their squads who then buy them from the likes of Bournemouth for 5 times what we sold them for.

Bournemouth are just a feeder team for Man City or Liverpool - the agent wants to sell to a crap team, because they are likely to have to move them on when they are relegated or when a Manchester club feels the need for a player like Brooks. He IS proven and WILL move on for about £50M in a year or two .... course he will.

So the agent gets a cut of the £12M fee and then a cut of the £50M in a year. Thats why they sell them to minnows like Bournemouth - instead of selling Brooks now to City for say £25M.

The agent, sadly that pillock Henderson, gets what ? £1M now and £6M in a year 1+6 + £7million.

otherwise he'd only get £2.5 million.

stayed 40 odd seasons

there are only clubs , size is toatally subjective
only big clubs are the top 6/7 in the prem due entirely to tv cash from champions league
huddersfield are not gazed upon as big
size is only measured by results
they got a bit bigger last season

after 55 seasons of watching us we are at best a top half championship club 5th to 10th

we have never had the investment of a big city club , as theres never been enough big investors

football is made of 4divisions, but each division is made of about 3 pools of teams.
prem has the top 6/7, then another 6/7 who feed them - lukaku to manure from Everton, who in turn buy from the bottom prem pot ala Ashley Williams from Swansea.
Bournemouth (prob bottom prem pot) buy from top end champs, we in turn buy from pots below us - Charlton Coventry etc.
no issues in that, natural selection.
it's when players go within pots - Che Adams fir example for a few extra grand it bothers me.
but in reality i would say we're mid table championship, sadly were there for the taking, in the,same way Charlton were ti us

Yep. I'm sure Swansea & Stoke's fans are finding it hard to come to terms with where they are after thinking they were an 'established PL teams'.

Other clubs like Wigan, Bolton, Leeds - the list goes on - have their moment in the sun but then inevitably come down with a bump. For all their success Bournemouth & Burnley are a managerial change away from crashing with a bump.
