What's the loudest roar for an away team goal at Bramall Lane?

The one that instantly springs to mind for me was Madine's equaliser for Wednesday in the 2-2 draw a couple of seasons back.

Although this one must have been pretty loud.

10,000 Derby fans at the Lane that day?

I think it was QPR's third, when we realised it might signal the end of Semi-Pro and his anti-football.

Leeds when they won the title. The BLUT was rocking that day like I've never seen. Our seating capacity temporarily fell by about 500 after the match too.

The one that sticks in my mind is when Bristol City scored in the second leg of the play-off semi in 1988. The goal pretty much confirmed our relegation, and put them through to the play-off final.

The impact of the moment upon me was probably increased by the fact that I was only 10. The contrast of three side of the ground in silence, as the Bramall Lane end (in my memory, both tiers full) went berserk was quite something, as the wave of noise swept over us.

In the end they lost in the play-off final, so it was all for nothing.

At the time when teams score it sounds loud, but honestly can't think of any which I remember. Suppose the games in the 90's when I was stood on john st west would seem louder as I was closer to the away fans, but it's never something which has fascinated me

Not really. We had lost 1-0 in the first leg and Carl Shutt scored early doors at the Lane to give City a 2-0 aggregate lead. However, as we only needed 2 goals to take the game to extra time, this by no means "confirmed our relegation".

As it happened., Morris scored early in the second half and we then had around 40 minutes to get a goal to save ourselves. Had Paul Williams not been utter shit, we would have done precisely that.

Don't think there were as many as 10,000 there that day, but there was the season before when they beat us 1-0 in the FA Cup. Might be wrong, but I think there were more Derby fans in the ground than Blades that day. The BL end was jam packed and the rest of the ground was pretty sparse.

We were well beaten from memory too. They'd put together a decent side in Division 3 and they went up to Division 1 in successive seasons and did pretty well up there for a time too.

We on the other hand were bobbar.

Newcastles in the Prem season, for me.
Not going to go in to details, too much heartbreak from that year.

I said "pretty much" confirmed our relegation, and at the moment it went in it felt that way to me. Having watched us struggle all season, I didn't fancy our chances of scoring twice against a winning side with their tails up.

Having said that, my Dad always used to play down our chances before a game, so as to reduce the disappointment if we lost (and increase the excitement if we won....) I think he was introducing me early to judicious control of emotions when you're a Blade.

As it turned out, the next few seasons were a fantastic time to grow up watching United...

I think from memory there were about 21,000 there for the cup game, and I think the Derby fans outnumbered us. I vividly remember Rob Hindmarch scoring the winner at the kop end and their fans going beserk. I must concede that was a truly impressive sight.

The crowd for the 1987 game was 19,000 - they were pretty close to outnumbering us, as that was the only time post war we've averaged less than 10,000.

I think the only bigger away following inthe last 30 years was the numbers Burnley brought for the 3rd round cup game in 1993 - they got extra seats in the South Stand and brought about 10,000 I think.

I remember watching the Sunderland v Norwich FA Cup semi final at S6 in 1992 (I was with my Norwich mate in the Leppings Lane Upper Tier), when John Byrne scored the goal I could feel a lot of noise from the Sunderland fans (they had the Kop End and the South Stand) from the vibrations on my seat and it did look like that the Kop Roof would collapse at any time due to the noise. It looked impressive

The other memory is at Old Trafford v Newcastle. Before the game the Blades were in full voice and the Newcastle fans didnt seem to be making much noise at all. From memory the blades also had 2.5 sides of the ground and the Geordies had the then newly extended North stand and half the Stretford end (I think). About 10 minutes before the game the whole of the North stand started singing and the sound from that one stand was incredible.

...as demonstrated by all those who stick their fingers in their ears and go "la la la la" when anyone mentions the Play Offs. If you admit that it's a possiblity, you leave yourself open to the chance of more disappointment.

We were sat opposite and it was awesome. Didn't they sign something like

Gallowgate Army
TOON TOON
Gallowgate Army
TOON TOON

The TOON TOON made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

Awesome

Something in the back of my mind is telling me that Swansea were very loud when they embarrassed us 0-3 at the Lane in the FA Cup.

The loudest roar I've heard is from the last 2 derbies, when they drew 2-2 and lost 3-2. Nobody celebrates not winning a derby as much as them

True, I remember them being chuffed to bits after we won 1-0 in 2005. A more pathetic sight even than their team of that time.

I remember that one too. A bunch of them were buzzing in our co-op that evening, waiting for the Green Un to arrive.

The loudest will have been when it wasn't an away end and there were Blades stood on that end. Some of the older codger than me can probably recall a night game when the BLT was jumping loud with Blades!

Any time we hear the Pigs are losing and the SWFIUA chant starts :D
I remember when we had a corner at the Lane End against Bolton in Nov 2000 (score was 0-0 with about 10 mins left) and then the electronic scoreboard came up with the score "Crewe 1 Wendy 0" and then there was a loud roar erupting from Blades fans which seemed to startle the Bolton players (of course they werent aware of the announcement on the electronic scoreboard!) and then Lee Sandford headed in the winning goal from that corner!

I've forgotten what an away crowd celebrating a goal looks like. Blades haven't lost there since November.
