Don't upset the apple cart by selling anybody
Samir Carruthers might not settle in as quickly as we hope he will, he might not settle in at all knowing Uniteds luck

If your son was at home
crying all alone on the bedroom floor because he's hungry
And the only way to feed him is to sleep with a man for a little bit of money
And his Daddy's gone
somewhere smoking pot now
in and out of lock down
I aint got a job now
So for you this is just a good time
But for me this is what I call life

The great news for us is that our team is greater than its parts.

On an individual basis non of our players are worth that much, so we won't attract any high bids.

But to us in the role they play they are all equivalent to £1 million plus players.

Wilder seems to know how to get the best out of players. You could imagine Coutts going elsewhere and being poor, struggling to get a game.

You're probably right and personally I don't think there will be any bids for Coutts. Even though it's completely hypothetical, it's interesting how this thread seems to have raised the hackles.

Well the JTW has opened again and we've already had the good news that the Blades have shown some ambition and brought in Samir Carruthers.

It's not improbable given the way we have been playing that some managers have been looking at our players too.

I thought it would be interesting to find out views on.....

A championship side bids £1.2m for Coutts. He's playing really well and a good age but he's got 6 months left on his contract and he's divided opinion among supporters in the past, with some still to be convinced by him.

A) What would you do yourself, sell, do you think he'd be worth more/less? How much do you think CW would get to spend on a replacement/do we need one now we've just signed Carruthers?

B) Keep him at all costs and try to get him to sign a new contract too?

C) What do you think the club's view would be in this situation and how much do you think they'd sell for?
Do you know something that us mere mortals don't?
When united get called a "selling club" it is because they almost every year sell of a star player or bright young prospect without first bringing in someone better. When McCabe and co get criticised it is not that they don't invest rather that they invest in the wrong areas for example Dean Hammond, Martyn Woolford players coming to the end of their careers with no re-sale value or players that are crocked like James Wallace. Yesterday we brought in a young player who could still improve and will have a re-sale value, these are the type of signings we should have made in the past. MK Dons loss they should have extended his contract earlier. If we put ourselves in that position then it is our own fault, worse than that is when we extend a players contract and then sell him a few months later, as happened with Murphy without ever replacing him. No player is not for sale at any club but there is a right time to sell, the problem at Sheffield United is that for decades they have failed to understand this on a spectacular scale.

Sorry to hear you've lost your job Dane but it was to be expected given the amount of time you spend on here during working hours.
There's no shame in working in the sex trade though, I hope you make a success of it.

She said, n**** I know about pain 'cause
We're all Blades here.

Keep him, he's been a regular in getting us three points clear at the top.

Same for anyone else who has been a regular in the rise to the top.

As for the fringe lads....and some of the kids, get them out playing somewhere.

wheres the reports of 250 k , not seen anything in print
Stir said in print that the fee is reported to be between £250k and £300k... but that is utterly meaningless, might as well say my cat said it in a dream I had last night.

which is my point , who knows what it is , owls fans say the defender they bought cost 4m , he cant get in the team
probably meant 4m green shield stamps

undisclosed .it could be anything mk dons chaiman said our offer was too big to turn down
that doesnt sound like a measly 250k

Say he's on £5k per week, they have to pay him until 30/6 so that's £130K and then they get diddly squat in the summer when his contract is up.

If they don't think they are going up (or down) and can do without him, then they 'save' over £100k on wages plus get a decent fee.

In any event he's always going to talk up the fee to keep their fans onside. £250k sounds about right to me.

No one is irreplaceable - no one! But as someone who has championed Coutts inclusion in the team since the start of this season when he wasn't playing, I really wouldn't want to lose him at this time. He's a key player for us and if there are still folks on here who doubt that then it says more about their knowledge of football or an unwillingness to admit they were wrong than anything else.

He's playing the Kevin McDonald role now: picking it up deep and providing a supply line from defence to midfield, plus the occasional forage into attack. I think he's really found his niche there and we are so much better for it. Long may it continue!

He's technically the most gifted player at the club and some of his passes remind me of the great TC himself. (No, I'm not saying he's as good as TC. Most of us will never see a player in a United shirt again as good as that - but it's a compliment of the highest order that he shows shades of him).
