What would you class as a successful transfer window?

Left sided defensive cover has to be priority. We have much more adequate cover on the right with Freeman, Rodwell, Bash’s versatility and even Jags.
I'm not a fan of signing squad players unless we're short in an area. Every signing should be better that what we have to force the current players onto the bench as squad players.
I disagree. I’d like to see young hungry players that can be developed by our staff to come in as long term replacements for the current first XI for when they get too old or we get offered silly money for those in their prime. I don’t think we’re quite ready to compete in the market for PL quality first team upgrades on every signing, though we would need to look at more of that type of signing in the summer if we qualify for Europe.

Defensive cover, midfielder and someone that can play a similar forward role to Didzy.

We’re not the same when he’s not playing or out of form.

I did think Morrison may be that player, but it appears not.

Rodwell is a great start. Covers two areas and looks quality and confident, despite lack of match fitness .Anything else, as someone already said, is just gravy.

A successful one is yo sign quality to the next level but looks like 10m is the budget

I think if we are thoughtful in this window, then we can ensure the summer window can be a patient one with not too much activity required and the 3 targeted signings prioritised.

This window:
Ins - Rodwell, Cabbaut, Wolfenden, Berge
Outs - Stearman, Bryan, Clarke, Wolfenden (loan)

Get quality competition for Lunny, secure Egan's or Bash's potential successor in Wolfenden and then loan him to a Champ club, maybe someone like Barnsley so he can settle in the area and get game time.

Summer window:
Ins - Hendo/Foster/Etheridge, Besic replacement/Norwood competition, Eze/Bowen/Watkins
Outs - Hendo? Besic, Sharp, Wolfenden (loan), Ravel.

Will need to sort out the keeper situation. If Man U don't change their stance on DDG then maybe same again is possible. Otherwise a key bit of recruitment.
Getting another Besic type DM or someone to push Norwood.
Fair chance Billy moves on and we use this to eye up a taker for McGoldricks role as I see Mousset as a decent no 9 and McBurnie being able to play 9 and 10. Any of the 3 listed above would be a decent type. Unless we keep Ravel, then it still leaves 24 spots taken.
We take a view on Wolfenden and decide if Jags stays one final year and he has a full Champ season on loan somewhere or if he comes into the squad.

For future windows you've then got to see if Lunny keeps improving, if both Freemans and Osborn are happy with their roles, whether Callum can kick on and how long McGoldrick can go on for. You've also got the possibility that by summer 2021 RND may well start to push Enda. He seems a star at Rochdale so you'd think a season in the Champ next season and Enda moving into his 30s might see some competition develop.

I reckon 3 or 4 in this window like the above and 3 in the summer (plus replacing those that want to leave) would be a decent evolution and wouldn't jeopardise the club's future. That's also ignoring we may get offers for our main players for silly money.

We're thin on the ground quality wise once we get past the first 11. Numbers in mean nothing unless they're going to improve the squad.

Genuine admiration for such a detailed and well constructed argument. The only slight problem is, you have spent all the available cash, and we can’t afford to buy the ground back, as ordered by the judge. 🤷‍♂️

I'm sure Osama is good for a loan. He was good for it 12 years after his death, I'm sure 15 years after he'll be just as obliging!

Still not seen anyone suggest a decent goal scoring striker option to improve us. It's the main area of weakness. Are they out there?
I would throw in (by type) from a quick serach of the championship:
Finisher:
Assombalonga
Grabban
N Wells
Pace:
Kemar Roofe
Andre Gray
Joe Lolley
Big Gypo:
Mitrovic
Charlie Austin
Jutkievicz
Madine
Tom Eaves

Picking up Aguero as Messi , IMHO.
