So whilst Wilder was briefly linked with the Forest job, I had quite a few of my Chesterfield based friends and acquaintances telling me that they thought he'd likely leave us for Forest.
Of course that seems ridiculous given the fact that we're fighting for promotion, and he's a proper blade and that Forest is run by a lunatic and in real danger of being in the *glorious* league 1 next season.

But that left me thinking, could any club realistically present a threat in terms of stealing Wilder?

His stock value is high at the moment . Wilder makes the right moves and says the right things , which is not always to a board room liking .

With regards promotion , the only team that can beat the Blades is the Blades , as bourne out in each loss this season . We could and should have won on Saturday . If Billy had not hit the bar and scored , the final whistle score line would have been completely different . Blades have to worry about the Blades , no other team.

Topping the 3rd division table and he has the backing of the fans so long as he's winning.
If we manage to get promoted then all that will change, and let's be honest he won't be able to test himself at anywhere near the highest level with us, we just don't have the backing.
I'd say we're OK for the moment but if he's really successful in moving us up the Championship then offers from established Premiership sides will be too difficult to turn down, plus others with deeper pockets than our own, and no one should blame him.
But this assumption of blind loyalty to the detriment of his own career seems a bit OTT.

IF he does get us up the PL clubs will come calling, we will probably see off the first couple of approaches but eventually the opportunity and money will prove irresistable. Forget about the Forests, the Birminghams and Derbys of this world, we should be playing alongside them next season all being well, and then they will not be perceived as being any bigger or better than us.

Can't see anyone of note tempting him whilst he's still boasting a great lower league record. We're a perfect club for him and his career progression right now.

Should we go up and have a decent few months back in the Champ, his name will be feature in several hats for inevitable vacancies. And he'll have earned the right to consider what he wants.

I doubt Chris Wilder would put the club in a financial dilemma regarding transfer fees for players. Chris Wilder is pretty savvy in knowing what type of player will improve the team but having said that, I believe the board have seen enough of Wilder's capabilities to trust him 100% and if it pleases the faithful fans then the board will not want to be seen as rocking the boat.

As I see it, Wilder loves the club, the fans love Wilder, the players respect Wilder and that in itself shows harmony within BDTBL.

and this is what I'm asking. What level of investment are people expecting?
For a guy who has a wealth similar to that of McCabe, how much do people really think we're going to have to spend, even if by there means they are showing ambition?
I believe fans expecting a £30 Million wage bill per season and the same level of transfer funds might be disappointed, as neither the Prince nor McCabe have that level of money behind them as I see it.

We,ll never get to close to a wage bill of 25-30 million in the Championship .

I know talks cheap but the "talk" when the Prince came in was positve, I dont think the idea was to survive or aim for mid table, my take was for pushing in the first season for an outside chance of play off, following season if we didn't go up was certainly looking at top six. As I have said I dont no what that would take in wages but I reckon Chris Wilder, when interviewed would havetalked about immediate /medium and long term, whatever that was my faith is more to do with Wilder making sure that promises are kept.

We have a great stadium, a large fan base and although he's been knocked in the past, a chairman who really is a Blade.
Money doesn't seem to be a feature as he's managed clubs with little or no resources so that should suit both Wilder and McCabe.....
I think the only clubs to tempt him would be a large Premiership club and as they seem to plump for foreign coaches then I think we are safe.......fingers crossed
