As one or two may know, due to leg injuries I am unable to attend the number of home games I'd dearly love to be a part of. Yesterday was no different in this respect, but what a joy it was to read the number of Blades who were in unison about the team's performance. It made inspiring reading to know how well we played, and that the team performed to levels we know they're capable of. It may well have been a case of you can only beat what's before you, but given this cliche, how many times have we played so-called lesser teams and not excelled? Well yesterday we excelled with aplomb. I've read about the excellence (not too strong a description of the three creatives we look to to push the team forward) of our midfield play, of how Duffy was 'Mr. Give-it-to-me', wanting the ball at every opportunity, being prepared to attempt something positive.....and then there were those who regard Fleck as an almost perfect midfield orchestrator at this level (and possibly the one above). Nice to know we have someone prepared to put his foot in as well as being capable of using the ball so creatively.....and then we had a first league goal (I am right I hope?) for Paul Coutts. Coutts also had an excellent game, and finally we're seeing him play to a consistent standard, something I'm sure that he, and Wilder and Knill, are overjoyed about. All quality players, and as has been commented on elsewhere, we paid almost next to nothing in fees for this trio. Fucking bargain or what?!!!

As for the rest of the team, well from what I read, Sharp's contribution was more than significant, Billy was forward thinking, positive in everything he attempted, and now has the maturity in his play that in years gone by he sometimes lacked, so well done Sharpy! As for Matt Done, I know he's not everyone's favourite player, but surely there's a reason why the team has gained so many points until now? I appreciate that he may not be equipped to add upwards of ten goals a season (I can hear the laughter at the suggestion of that number) but his harrowing of the opposition must surely count for something? Add to this point, Wilder has selected Done in the majority of games, so are we to dismiss his insight and expertise, or do we accept that our manager understands a little about chemistry and how certain players benefit from the inclusion of other players? Maybe Done's services will be dispensed with should promotion be secured, but let's get there first before decisions are made about who remains at United.

There's always been one priority of course, to finally wave goodbye to this division. I do my best to avoid sentiment or those cliches that have no genuine foundation, but for this club to progress we have to be involved amongst those clubs who strive for more than survival. Our aspiration should be to be the best we're capable of becoming, and with that in mind, the last few years have shown we've let ourselves down through a combination of shocking decision making and a lack of leadership from the directors of this club.....onwards and upwards fellow Blades, the next game can't come soon enough UTMB!

This in particular is yet another night-and-day-difference between the team of today and the detritus who played last season and much of the one before. The attitude back then was "What have you given it to me for? I don't want it".

Anyway, a well considered and thoughtful post as always IIYB.

First of all, hope your legs are better soon and that you can get down T'D Lane ASAP. Yesterday, as you have picked up, was a pleasure.

You also pick up on something that has gone rather under the radar. Sharp's performance in the target role.

I thought he bullied his opponents physically yesterday and is, along with Duffy, the best crosser of a ball at the club,

Am Sure the goals will come again with the amount of possession and creativity our holy trinity have in their collective lockers.

A great team performance, no one really had a bad game and it would be harsh to single anyone out. A bit like the Chesterfield game, you knew it was only a matter of time before we scored and then the flood gates opened.

Another satisfying part, for me at least, was that the team continued working hard, trying to find that fifth goal, right up to the final whistle.

Appreciate your comments about my health mate, trouble is it's a life-long problem, so I have surgery at some point(?), but this is on hold due to Lymphoedema etc, etc......so a complex web that requires patience on my part.

As for the team and the performance, was it Sharp who crossed from the wing for Duffy to score? If so a superb bit of play from the senior Blade! It left their defence wondering who was meant to take responsibility, something we've been guilty of in the past. Sharp understands that not all runs need to receive a pass, that in making a run it can open a defence for another player to exploit and hopefully score or create a goal. It's what professional players are means to be good at, it's why we all love the great teams who play in patterns that find solutions to problems. It's all about good coaching and repeating the same valuable lessons, and yesterday was evidence of what happens in the week whilst very few know what's going on.

One thing about the forum, I know there can be differences between posters, sometimes these escalate into bitter, almost mafia-inspired dislikes/hatreds(!), but in the main, and dislikes aside, we do know what good play is meant to be. Yesterday was testament to what a Wilder inspired team can produce. Well done everyone who makes this possible UTB

It was a Sharp assist for our 3rd (Duffys 2nd). And with his weaker peg no less !!

Another difference this season is before the game, most of us now have a confidence in the team,we expect to see a committed skillful performance and not only do we think we will win we tend to think we will win by three or four goals, and not in a cocky way just "we are a good team" and better than everyone else in this division, dont know how far this team will take us but the journey is really exciting

When are we going to get a game when it all clicks though? I want it to be against bolton and we pummel them into oblivion.

25 games to go

the way we are dominating and creating chances at 21 per game it means we,ll have 550 shots at goal before the season ends
we have 41 points and to be certain of auto promotion need 54 points to hit 95

pretty sure we can win 18 games the way we are playing ,
88 has won the title might only need 16 wins

Would love us to be able to get that many wins BTL but to win 16/18 out of the 25 games remaining is a tad to optimistic imho, we've won 12 out of 21 so far this season playing very well. If we carry on playing as well as we are we will maybe get another 14 wins, that would with the points we have already achieved give us 83pts. It's what we get out of the other 11 fixtures that could determine our final position, get 7 draws out of them and I think the 90 pts will see us over the line.

We are indeed playing very well, but I think we'll improve bit by bit as the season progresses. We haven't entirely mastered Tuftyball yet, I'm delighted to say.
