Next up at BDTBL is Pompey. What welcome will the ex blades get? Willo in particular?

From me Ertl and Howard will just get a quick clap where as Jon Harley will be cheered. Lee Williamson however I think will be roundly booed.

Thoughts?

Williamson left under a sour note to say the least. His comments when signing for Pompey were wrong and could be seen as a dig at United. There is no way they are an ambitious club going forward. You left that club you moronic money grabbing bastard!

Before that, I actually liked him

i reckon he'll get serious grief.. unfortunately
what i would like to know though is how a club who are bankrupt can come and poach one of our best players.. wtf??
i hope he doesn't get booed too much then when pompey finally go bust we can get him back and stick him back on the wing

Wasn't he out of contract? If so he could sign for anyone he wanted

groan.. ok then offer him more money than us.. even though they are bankrupt

That makes more sense. :)

It's like how Rangers (who have been liquidated) are practically known as the same team who won all the titles. How on earth have they managed to keep them all but still be classed a different . Know one really knows.

I always welcome back our ex-players based on how they performed for us, not bothering with any of the hype surrounding their exit.

On that basis I will clap loudly for Jon Harley, clap appreciatively for Willo, release a sly fart for Ertl and take a dump in my hankie when the wanker Howard is mentioned (although he'll probably have already buried himself back in his favourite hiding place during the warm up).

I really hope that Howard is named in the Portsmouth starting XI, preferably next to Ertl in central midfield. That would make my day as I don't think that combination would work at Conference North level.

Throw in a Wembley-esque performance from Williamson and we're laughing.

Willo did a great job. Why/how/what he left for or who caused him the grief (including himself) that made him want to be somewhere else we'll never know.
We wanted goals from a midfield man and 14 for the games he played (including the ones where people thought he went missing) was a great return. I miss him or his equivalent and by the way McDonald is not lighting up yet so does he.

Will be happy to see Jon Harley, until he scores. He's a good lad and a good player (though his career nosedived somewhat!).

Willo kinda burnt his bridges with some of the comments. Ertl I'm indifferent on, seems a nice bloke, but was never going to pull up any trees.

Howard - Happy to see him playing against us, it's like having an extra man.

Don't forget Izale McLeod either! God, they're going to score loads aren't they?

I think you'ved skipped over the 2 previous years when we made him a millionaire for cleaning our treatment table with his arse every day.

I think he will be pelted in the streets outside the ground with fish heads and coal. This will make him unable to play and we won't notice Howard or Ertl in the same way we didn't when they played for us.

That do you?

We used to have a puppy that did that to our kitchen floor. All he got was a Bob Martin tablet and a biscuit but there again, he didn't have Willo's agent...

And you didn't have McCabe's cash.

He will be booed by 20,000 people.

Th Ertl signing was the harbinger of doom in my opinion. I'm astonished he didn't retire straight after his contract with us ended. He was a pathetic player when he arrived, but after his injury he looked definitively finished.

Is it plausible that Williamson's comments were just the usual overly positive phrases all players say when they sign for a new club? Did he have us in mind at all when he spoke?

He obviously had his reasons for prefering to join them, but as an out of contract player it was his decision. He signed a contract for us, did his best, then left. What's to be upset about?

There is this rule in football that states when a crowd cheer goals scored by a player, that player then owes the fans a debt of loyalty. They should then forsake any future advances by other clubs and stick with one club, no matter how bleak the future looks. Until there is a downturn in form. Then the fans have no concept of "loyalty" and turn on the player.
So as you see, it's just the rules.

While you can't deny Willo's contribution over the course of last season, I did think he went missing in all of last season's big games. This wasn't just Wembley - he was really poor in both of the Stevenage games, and poor in both derby matches.

See that this has made the Stir today. Wilson want fans to give him a warm welcome.

not going to happen ----- Just like Paddys return the other year

Maybe Wilson missed the pop that Williamson had at him?:-

Williamson said: ‘It’s not the case I am getting big wages at all.
‘People may think “typical, greedy footballer” but it wasn’t a matter of that.
‘I just wanted to go somewhere that was ambitious, that’s going to play good football and where I was wanted.
‘Wages didn’t come into it at all. It can’t be considering the situation we are in.
‘Obviously I have got my family and need to make sure they are looked after but getting big wages is not the case at all.
‘Actually, what Sheffield United offered me was ridiculous. I did enjoy my time there but I was offered a contract there they knew I was never going to sign.
‘You are talking a 60-65 per cent wage cut.
‘Not blowing my own trumpet, I had a half-decent season, scoring a lot of goals for them, so to be treated the way I was and not having the backing of the gaffer I didn’t feel wanted.
‘After I had the offer I just knew it wasn’t the club for me.
‘Portsmouth are ambitious, I like the way the manager wants to play football and this is the right club for me.’

Sothall_Blade I think that translates to:

"I didn't think United offered me enough money so I asked Danny Wilson to intervene in order to get the board to up its offer. He didn't and so when I got offered more money by Portsmouth I accepted a deal there; even though I will probably be playing League 2 football next season when Portsmouth's 10 point penalty is applied"

PS Yes, Lee, you had a half decent season last year. That doesn't make up for the two piss-poor seasons you had before.

Here's a thought.
What happens if Portsmouth don't come out of administration during this season and therefore don't get a 10 point penalty?
That could mean they get promoted at another club's expense, maybe ours?
Maybe there should be a rule saying that a club in administration can't get promoted?
Maybe the 10 point penalty should be imposed at the start of every season for clubs in admin?
Either way, the current situation is a mess and something needs to be done about it.

Also....if the rumours he was on £10k per week are true...we offered him £4k-£5k per week to play league 1 football (50%-60% pay cut) and he decided to play for a team on a month by month contract on a higher salary.

What he appears not to have realised is that Portsmouth at the moment can afford to pay higher wages as they aren't committed to paying players in the summer (as every other club in the league is). This applies to all there other players and explains partly why Portsmouth can give big wages to the likes of McCloud,Howard and Williamson When they come out of administration,he may well find he has another pay cut because of this as they will need to stick to the FFP rules

60-65% wage cut meaning going from a ridiculous contract signed when we were giving them out like sweets to one that is reasonable for a league 1 footballer. I can't imagine his portsmouth contract is as lucrative as the one which has expired with us but it probably is more than we offered him. He was never going to get close to those silly terms he was on before so why did he expect it?

Wilson quoted from the BBC:
I hope Lee Williamson gets a warm reception because he deserves it. If I was in the stands I'd certainly be applauding him.

Sounds sarcastic to me. :)

Willo had a good season but when offered a pay cut to stay he decided to chance his arm on a bankrupt club who somehow offered him a highly salary. It's pretty clear money is his primary motive.

Not that I'll boo him. But he's no returning hero.
