… An Alan Cork beard.
Desperate times call for desperate measures, I think it is time for Mr Cork to put aside his shaving things and grow a ‘Beard for the Blades’.

For those of you not old enough to remember, Alan fronted a very successful children’s television show called Fingerbobs, under the pseudonym ‘Yofi’.

However, Alan grew restless and saw his future elsewhere. As look would have it Dave Bassett was leaving Abbey Lane recording studios, after doing the voice-over for Blur’s Park Life, when he noticed a tall, bald guy kicking hell out of his broken down Austin Metro.

“There’s my new centre forward” thought Harry, and a legend was born.

In order to conceal his former identity, Alan shaved off his trademark beard and commenced his new career as a top flight footballer.

Alan formed a strong bond with his manager Dave Bassett, and during a lack lustre season he was approached by his mentor to do something special during Sheffield United’s hour of need.

A cup run was afoot, and the team needed a talisman, a mascot, a colour to which they could rally, Dave asked Alan to re-grow his beard. Dutifully Alan responded by ceasing shaving immediately, without question.

Alan promised to stop shaving until such a time as United either won the cup, or were knocked out of the competition.

Unfortunately, in that glorious spring sunshine of April 1993, United fell victim to an on form Sheffield Wednesday and Alan had to once again hang up his beard.

However, in true Arthurian style, the beard is only dormant, and, it is said, it will resurrect itself if ever United send out that clarion call.

That time, my friends, is now; we must, as one, call for the return of Corky’s beard. With one clear voice we must chant for Corky’s beard, and, as a sign of our faith in the beard we must all stop shaving until we are safe or relegated.

Come On You Red And White Beardy Wizards!!!!

Fingerbobs Fact #1: At the end of the final series, Rick Jones or 'Yoffy', drowned Fingermouse in a cup of coffee. Yikes, what a way to go..!
