Think, if we had not sold some of our best players think of the team we could have now.
Kenny in goal,
both Kyles right and left back,
morgan and Jagielka at centre half,
tonge and brown in the centre,
then hulse, beattie up front.
It makes me wonder where we could have been.

Think too, if TC had been injected with some of that magic youth serum he'd have been able to carry on playing, and if they'd given Paul Ifill some of that stuff that spider had that bit Peter Parker he'd have been able to control the ball a hell of a lot better than he did.

If the Romans hadn't fucked off early in the Fifth Century then we'd have been playing in Serie A, and might have had Totti or Lombardo or Baggio or even Gazza. We'd all be supping frothy coffe like there's no tomorrow and riding shitty little scooters without helmets.

If the Germans had won World War Two we'd be an offshoot of the Bundesliga, and might have had Klinsmann playing for us. Or Bastien Schweinstiger.

If we'd had good investment we could have signed Ricky van Wolfswinkel, and who wouldn't have liked that on the back of their shirt?

And if your aunty had bollocks she'd be your uncle. Think on that.

Otherwise there's not a lot of point looking back into the past, unless you go to work in either a DeLorean or a Tardis.

he has a point though.. a couple of seasons ago we played birmingham in a promotion decider.. they beat us with a last second goal from mr phillips.. as i watched them on tv yesterday their team was very similar to the one we played with a few significant additions (foster.. larrson.. zigic).. our team is unrecognisable from that team.. only quinn remains.. they are winning cups.. we are relegation candidates.. the difference?? decent manager and board

Football is a silly thing. If Brum hadn't gone up that year, they'd have been deep in the financial cack. They kept their best players and spent further, yet only just squeaked up during a season in which McLeish was copping all sorts of flack from the stands. Having made it, they were bought by a foreigner with cash.

They played at the Lane that year and we easily beat their bunch of old overpaid chuffers. Yet here we are, and there they are.

>They kept their best players and spent further
and .. my friends.. i give you..
it is a daft game .. such fine margins .. WHICH WE ALWAYS END UP THE WRONG SIDE OF!.. soory.. it blurted out :D

We would be starting with 9 men and would probably get spanked.

Does show you how far we have fallen and how fast though.

You could use this as a McCabe-ometer, a barometer of McCabe's interest in the playing side - i'm not sure a different manager would have made that much difference in the long run.

They won promotion by a short head from us.

Mind you that season ''Hoofy" had to sell Hulse, Stead, Beattie, Shelton, and Tonge and wasn't allowed to bring in replacements of a similar quality. We just didn't do it despite being virtually unbeatable from Feb to May when we clawed back a defecit of at least a dozen points, and couldn't quite get it together at Wembley where the efforts of the previous 3 months caught up with us.

Add in to that Birmingham that season had a playing budget that was well in excess of us, and probably everyone else in the championship.
