I am usually, so positive and I am willing to give this team time.....but can anyone tell me that was good today?
The result was good, the goal was good.......the overall play was shocking.
If the opposition had been anything like we would have been three down by half time.
Can anyone tell me Higdon is a player?....his first touch is shocking and I saw him bottle at least two one on one situations...did you see clough and garns screaming at him second half.
What was all the corner stuff with ten minutes to go?
I was not impressed today, in fact came home quite down despite the result........I'm sorry and it's not like me but, we are not good enough.

I couldn't give a flying fuck if you put a post like this every weak aslong as wev'e won, that would be great.Wank but won 1-0,sign of promotion contenders if you ask me;)

Spent the first half thinking exactly the same, with the most prominent thought being thanks McCabe for stripping the team down to this sh!te. Second half much better, thanks mainly to Murphy, Davies, Alcock and the occasional moment from Baxter.

One thing that did strike me was why has Clough changed the formation from a very successful 4-5-1-0 in the second half of last season to 4-4-1-1 or 4-4-2 this. Other teams certainly don't like playing against a 4-5-1-0 (the opposing centre halves haven't a clue what to do for starters) and it means when fit we'd be able to get Scougall, Baxter and Wallace in the same team.

The problem is if we play like that then better teams are going to easily turn us over.

The goal was superb, the 2nd half play was encouraging and we put ourselves under pressure as our ability (or lack of it) to put the ball in the net is lamentable.

Early days still. Every game we play we get a bit more cohesion and the team starts to gain confidence. As long as we're building momentum and picking up points I don't think performances are that important at this stage. It takes a while for teams to work themselves out and reach their best, especially one with so many new faces.

People writing players off completely (McNulty, Higdon, Basham) on the basis of very little game time are being too hasty. Give it time, if the team still looks crap in October then we should be worried.

4 games in 6 points in the bag, mid table team performing for a total of about 45 minutes in the way we'd expect. 6 games before any sane person would look to judge where we are and we're a draw shy of 6th and a win shy of 2nd. Early days so the league position broadly means fuck all but we're ok.
Perform like that in for then next 6 games and I'd worry, but I don't see it.

This season so far looks like last,.when Clough took over. Started poorly, then ground out a couple of decent results going a bit more defensive/solid. I was hoping we'd pick up from where we left off last season. But even with losing 3 key players that still relied on the likes of Murphy, Flynn and Scougall starting this season like they ended the last. At least Murphy looked more like it, at times, and Flynn was quite sharp when he came on. I'm not suggesting that Clough can do no wrong, but I do think he's still enough in credit to be trusted to sort things..And I'm looking forward to seeing Jose's goal again..UTB

There's a huge amount of room for improvement, but if we win while improving then so be it. 3pts is 3pts although I don't like the wasting time stuff with 8mins still to play.

Notice Morgan did all the media work post game today. Reckon cloughie locked them in the dressing and gave em all a bollocking?

I don't think we will play as crap as that though every weak(well first half anyway) and also, playing as crap as we have, did we concede a goal? No.This has to be a good thing,to get the back four used to gelling with each other, whilst getting their respective mistakes out of the way,not conceding so the confidence doesn't get low can only make us better in the long run.On a side note on this topic,i don't think Howard had to make many, if any sort of saves in the match.

We can only get better imo,we just need to see the first month out, continue to get results, and the performances will follow.

I didn't go today and even I thought we were shocking. What's this garbage all about, taking it into the corner before I'd got half way down Ringing Roger? I stay away so that I can read about how we dismantled the opposition with free flowing, attacking football. I don't not go to games to have to come on here and read all about how rubbish we are. Any more piss poor performances like today's and I'm going to have to stop not going and start turning up again. Sort it out Clough.

First half was just one of those scrappy games of football. We had the fair share of possession but never looked like doing anything with it and every time they got possession I worried a bit as they had a bit about them going forward on the counter attack. I think Clough must be trying to rekindle the partnership that Murphy and Higdon had up in Scotland at Motherwell, they were apparently a different class up there. Higdon however wasn't on his game at all after the first 15 minutes, when you look at his track record you can only think that it is just a case of getting his sharpness back.

Second half a breath of fresh air and a resemblance to last year at times. We were straight out of the traps and put them under a bit of cosh, we scored a cracker of a goal and could and maybe should have gone 2-0 up not long after which would have made things more comfortable. That little spell was great and shows what we are capable of when teams doze and under estimate us. I think we were pretty comfortable after that and limited their chances more than they had in the first half and we saw out an important win.

Two games and two wins can't be grumbled at. Players need to get a bit sharper after injuries and stuff and hopefully with a few more goals, a few more clean sheets and a bit of confidence we can eventually build up a bit of momentum and kick on again as well did last year.

The boo boys aren't helping anyone.

three points doesn't look so bad in the cold light of day but playing for time ten minutes from the end won't win Nigel any fans. The start of DW's downfall was scoring in the first minute and time wasting for 89 minutes (was it Tranmere? can't remember).. are we that desperate??
.here's the flip side
watched sturm graz today vs Wolfsburg.. Sturm played like Brazil.. hit post .. hit bar. one cleared off line.
lost 2-1 to two deflections :( football eh??

We lose, 'fans' slag off the team.

We draw, 'fans' slag off the team.

We win!?!, 'fans' slag off the team.

I give up.

You can win and still be crap though.
Sheffield United fans should never be pleased about scraping an untidy 1-0 win at home to Crawley with very very little to get enthused about.
The day we are is the time to give up.
However, if you are not playing well and you are trying to get some rhythm into your game a 1-0 win can only be a good thing.
The points are on the board now and hopefully the confidence can be built up and some better performances can start to come.

Charlton were nothing special but they got enough of these sort of 1-0 wins.

If he puts in a post like that every week, believe me, we won't be winning very many.

It was a win. An ugly one but they all can't be good. I am sure Higdon can't play any worse than he did yesterday and will get better. Also I thought Basham improved as the game went on.

I do have a concern about Collins who made quite a few mistakes, yet the fans started get anxy about McGahey. Collins is not a happy camper who wants to argue with his team mates and that needs to be removed.

Question: did you then spend the second half thanking McCabe for assembling Murphy, Davies, Alcock and Baxter into the same team?

Both teams were very poor yesterday, the game was really dull, we never created any good chances.
We won't be going up with performances like that, I do go down to the lane to be entertained and that was far from entertaining, fine if it was an away performance but at home the 18k fans should expect a lot better then that.

I am still wondering how Charlton got promoted because I was never impressed by them at all. They just got the results when it counted and scored enough late goals as well.

I am sure some of us said they would come straight back down after one season.

did anyone watch QPR last season sometimes dreadful others utterly woeful then to top it off they were totally footballed off the park in the play off final , totally out classed , but won 1-0

At football you can play bad and win
other times youll be superb , but get all the bad breaks and lose

when you win you take it for what it is , 3 points won,
Wednesday fans have learnt how to orgasm over lucky 1-0 wins
their last home win 6 months ago was won with a best goal in injury time after what was described as a dire game , but do they moan like we do ,, oooh no , they sing about itand find as many ways as possible of letting us know theyve won
we go on radio sheffield and slag ourselves off
we do ourselves no favours at all

Completely agree.
