Sorry, didn't realise we were like most clubs. Anyway, have you got the link to the article for who said it etc;
"On Friday morning Mr Birch called all the academy staff into a meeting to discuss our current situation. He stated as we know that we have been living beyond our means and this has to stop which obviously requires substantial cuts.
He said he wanted another £3 Million off the wage bill although £5 Million would be ideal and they wanted us to be more academy focused. While dodging the questions about mixed messages, cutting costs while wanting more players to come through he did actually answer one. One of the coaches raised the question of what is the point of the academy if the manager will never give the young players a chance. Mr Birch replied that it was a good point and one they were aware of."
Okay, I'll accept the above as hearsay but how about this?
"Our wage bill is two to three million higher than we wish it to be," admitted McCabe, whose reportedly about to step aside. "We have been amongst the top payers in the division since we were relegated from the Premier League. In the Championship, we are one of the last clubs to pay a lot of money for a player. We speculated to try and get back (to the top flight). We didn't succeed and we can't go on speculating. If we get new investors, then that might give us a different view."
Or this?
"The losses were very disappointing and unacceptable," said Birch. "Over the last three years since we have been relegated, we have made losses which are unsustainable going forward. We've pursued a policy of trying to run with a very high wage bill in comparison with our competitors in order to achieve promotion back to the Premier League. It hasn't worked; we haven't been successful and at some stage we have to start living within our means. Kevin (McCabe) has funded those costs and he is now saying 'enough is enough.' The club has to stand on its own two feet. We have got to make sure that we put this club back on an even keel."
And finally,
“The manager will teem and ladle with players and the squad will be shortly boosted by the return from long term injury of Darius Henderson and Lee Williamson. There may be opportunities to manoeuvre if investment comes forward,” added Mr McCabe.
And the money is where exactly? If investment comes forward. Right.
