After yesterdays game hearing that Sharp had scored on 5live I couldn't help but think how perfect he would be for us in this team right now. I know we do't have a cat in hells chance of bringing him to the lane for obvious reasons but this squad and formation is cut out for a poacher like Billy.

Baxter isn't a striker and definitely isn't a lone striker what so ever, Porter can do a job but isn't prolific enough in the final third to rely upon.....

Seriously though could you imagine Billy in this squad and in this league at present? Our wide play is the best it has been in a while with some great crosses in and around the 6 yard box, we are attacking in numbers from midfield Billy would thrive from it.

I agree, and had we got promoted this season I am absolutely convinced we could have signed him. However, with the current league status, him being at the prime age and the FFP rules (he's on nearly 20k per week) I just don't think it's plausible. We can aim a lot lower and still improve though. By 'Billy Sharp' you can just replace the name of any goal poacher from League 1. We don't have a prolific striker, and any poacher would thrive in this team, no doubt. First priority for Cloughy in summer.

We seem to play better with Porter up top - hard to say but considering what we have available he seems to make a difference at league 1 level.

Now the cup game v Hull will be different. The false 9 works well against better opposition.

With a proven goal poacher/striker added to the squad, we will have a real chance of promotion next season. Yesterday we had so many chances in the second half but could not get that final finish, games like that is when a natural finisher is needed.

With the income from the FA cup run, we should have plenty of cash to work within the FFP rules next season and secure an experienced striker.

We're desperate for a prolific striker. If we can manage the run we've had without one then we might go all season unbeaten if we can get another Beattie or an Evans!!

Really surprised we didn't get someone in in the January transfer window.

Sharp is as slow as a dish cloth. The first game he played for us, was it against Colchester, within 5 minutes I said to my son, oh no he is very slow.

I would not want him back, not at all. What concerns me is Clough bringing in Billy Paynter who is worse than useless to be fair.

Its a no for Billy Offside Sharp from me,lets leave it how it is and not let him fail at his boyhood club for a third time.

however we desperately need a striker

Clough doesn't need defending about his signings. Paynter is a loan, and yes, he's obviously not what we need, so you call it whatever you like, for me, a failed experiment, but it happens to the very best, Alex Ferguson, Arsene Wenger, Brendan Rodgers, they've all taken risks on players who haven't delivered, so nitpicking about this seems churlish. No doubt Clough will invest in a player in future and find his faith hasn't been repaid, what do you do? Sulk, stamp your feet, act as if you've only hours before you die? No, of course you don't. You move the player on and continue to search for the one who can do that job. There's a risk in signing someone. Ched Evans wasn't an immediate success for us, in fact at times he looked decidedly laboured and not capable of becoming what we all witnessed in his last season for us. It takes a wise head to admit when you get something wrong, it also takes a specific type of expertise to recognise this and correct that mistake.

Were doing OK without one, but we need to be doing better than OK.....:)

Billy here mate, just using this while the old fella's away for a few minutes.

It's like this mate (oh how I love the word mate, as I get older it saves me remembering anyone's name).

I've been around the block mate, played for a few clubs, I've managed to scrape together a few quid, and unless I piss it up against the wall, me and the missus should be ok when I'm unemployable. As for the fat comments, I might be a bit tubby I grant you, but what you gonna do when you can afford to eat at Nando's as often as you like?

Seriously mate, I'm like lightning over 3 yards, after that I'm like a punctured balloon, still got it in me to hit the onion bag but I might need a new prescription to help me along.....nowt wrong with me mate, you see, I'll be playing in the conference when I'm really old, you know mate, about 32 like,

Yours mate, Billy 'can't stretch to wipe me arse' Sharp

Hopefully he'll get his customary goal(s) against wendy on Friday night then and keep their current losing run going :)

I'd give a lot for a Shaun Miller, crazy decision to let him go out on loan,
