What game do you regret missing the most?

Small world init !!! Yes that's one of the problems many club teams have in the modern world getting blokes who are married with kids to commit to a full Saturday most weekends through the summer. I guess it's always been a problem to some extent.

I think I packed in playing in 1993. We started in the Norton league in 1990 (and struggled to get a team together on 5th May 1990, I have a feeling only 9 turned up and we won!!! ... i went to Filbert Street that day). We'd just been a gang of mates from school, who started our own football team in 1985, then extended it to cricket a few years later. I think the cricket team went on til 1994, and the football team went on well into the 2000s.

My most memorable Norton League match was at Castledyke in 1995, the opponents were Woodseats Social that included Wilder, Frain and Todd.

Always regretted missing the game v Bristol City 1970 when we were 3-0 down and came back to draw 3-3.

the forest play off game ,I was working in Scotland that week and there was no chance of getting back in time so driving back listening on Radio as we went 0-2 down as I drove down the motorway and the rest is history

I played against them for Shiregreen Congs a few years before that, think I played from 87 ish until 91 after which I oved away to Nottingham, don't we ever played your team. Once played against Caribbean in the midweek cup and they had a rather rapid if somewhat wayward opening bowler whose name was Devon Malcolm. He was deadly on the Colley Park wicket

Darlington away, too young and my Dad wouldn't take me, and the last midweek home I missed, Northampton 7-3, Mum said no to midweek!

I was that upset she relaxed the lockdown and I went to the next midweek game, 1-0 v Wigan, and when I returned home without been murdered she let me continue.

That Northampton game was the one where United had dished out free tickets to a lot of the schools around Sheffield. If i remember correctly the BL upper for once was packed, instead of just a few hundred of us hardy souls up there. If I also remember correctly we were 6-0 up at one point early in the second half.

I remember playing a game in Richmond Park where we got a side out for about that, think it lasted about 25 minutes for the whole match. I'm fairly certain United played Wednesday that day in the Steel City Challenge Trophy

The 5-0 win against Arsenal in Sept 1973 as I was at boarding school. Also the 2-0 win at Forest in May 1993 as I was the captain for my cricket club and it was the club's first match in the Norton League (after having played for the last 12 seasons in the Rotherham and South Yorkshire League)

The 5-0 Arsenal was TC. Forget the blowing kisses, sitting on the ball {same game}, quality goal etc, the brace he scored were both top notch.
He was that way out,. Arsenal could have had two teams on the pitch and he would still have bossed the game. He lifted the rest of our very good team.
Still re-living his goals as I'm posting this.
Can't remember the other three.

We got them at our School, Limpsfield, it was a great idea at the time.
Still Mum wouldn't budge.

Never seen a 7-3 game, 7-2 v Oldham the closest in the Zenith Data I think.

Not a game I missed, but an experience I missed.

@mrsstringjunior was working for the BBC when we played Hull in the fa cup semi. I had the choice of tickets with the masses, with mum, dad and String, or a corporate jolly with Mrs SJ. I opted for the jolly - I'd never been on a corporate ticket to the football so was quite excited.

It was all going so well until about 7am on the morning of the game when the missus took a call from work to say that the son of one of her team, and a good friend, had died. This poor lady was in Brazil ahead of the world cup and my wife spent the whole day on the phone sorting out getting her home quickly and getting somebody else to Brazil.

Now, my wife is a loyal and wonderful woman and knew how excited about the game I was, so she came to Wembley with me but spent literally the whole time on the phone - in the taxi, on the train, during the pre-match meal, during the game and on the train home.

My half time celebrations were subdued to say the least. And whilst I saw the game, I didn't experience the match.

So, in answer to the OP, whilst I didn't miss the game, if I'd chosen to go with the family and left my wife at home I would have had a completely different day.

Our lot were quite capable of collapses like that, however I don't think it would have been us that time ... our home ground was Mather road, we did play an away game at Richmond park once and won!! So maybe the same opposition

For me it would have to be the Leicester match . It clashed with a big company launch that I was forced to attend and I'm still deeply envious of those who were there to experience that game .

After that would come Darlington . The images I've seen from that occasion are some of the most spectacularly joyful ones I've ever seen from Blades fans .
