I've never been, so no comment!
In answer to the original question, being a Blade brings up a lot of conflicting images. I've always joked that I had as much choice over my Football Club as I did over my gender, so I've never "chosen" to be a Blade, as plenty have. Despite going to school in South Sheffield, I was always outnumbered by Bacon flavoured Friends, and at Uni I was the only Blade I knew, so I sort of identify with Walthy's outsider thing. Better than supporting a team like Manchester United or Liverpool where you're never more than five feet away from a fan at any rate.
Being a Blade is obviously a mixture of joy and despair. It's hugging people you don't know when Danny Webber scores at Ninian, and it's countless sombre coach rides back from Wembley or Old Trafford. It's Brown, Asaba, Allison, Deane and Davison putting Wednesday to the sword, and Brian Gayle gift-wrapping the Title and delivering it to Leeds. It's seeing us thrash Chelsea at your first game, seeing Tonge tear Liverpool apart and watching Jagielka in goal keeping Arsenal at bay, but it's also never, ever seeing us beat Manchester Fucking United.
But fuck supporting anybody else.
