Assuming our starting 11 will be:

Cooper
Gilchrist Anel JLT Burrows
Souza Blaster
O'Hare Gus Jeserun
Moore

Bench:
Davies
Souttar
Seriki
McCallum
Peck
Slimane
Brooks
Campbell
Brewster

Where does the overall squad still need strengthening?
That’s an excellent first XI.

It will be injuries that derail a campaign.

So if say take your two first picks out, per position and see how much the drop off would be.

Keeper doesn’t really count as you are allowed an emergency loan if Faxin is third choice and Grbic has left.

RB: Gilchrist, Shackleton, Seriki
LB: Burrows, McCallum, Norrington-Davies
RCB: Ahmedhodzic, Souttar, Souza, Trusty
CM: Arblaster, Peck, Davies
CM: Souza, Shackleton, Coulibaly
AM: O’Hare, Hamer, Slimane, Marsh, Peck
RW: Rak-Sayki, Brooks, Slimane
LW: Hamer, Slimane, Brooks
CF: Moore, Brewster, Marsh, One

So, to me there are two areas of potential weakness:

If we lost a couple of central midfield players and were relying on Coulibaly or Davies’ fitness then this would seem a concern. I think moving Coulibaly on and getting someone different in might be the move here.

Up front, if Moore takes some hammer then we are left only with Brewster and his fitness levels.

So I’d be looking at an additional striker and a midfielder in place of Coulibaly. Sorry for the kid, but others are taking their chances and he isn’t. Plus we have Shackleton and Davies with dubious fitness records behind them.

You're forgetting Hamer as an option for CM in what's probably his preferred position anyway.

In fact if Souza was sold Hamer would be first choice in CM over anyone new we brought in.

I think we need another GK, but the option wasn't there.

Cooper will be first choice but I'm not convinced by Davies. If anything happens perhaps we will go for an emergency loan.

I'm not getting the need at right back. As others have mentioned, Gilchrist hasn't come to warm the bench. We have Shackleton who looks decent and Seriki looked fantastic as a more attacking RWB option before he got hacked down.
If Seriki really has improved as much as it seems on last couple of displays, can stay fit and on form, and fight for a first team place, then I agree with you. Lots of ifs there though.

If not, then without signing a RWB we look unbalanced if playing 352 (which I’m sure we will want to at some stage this year).

Fair point on Shakleton. I haven’t seen him play but maybe he’d be a good fit at RWB if we need one. Not sure.

To be clear, if it’s 4231, I’m more than happy with Gilchrist at RB.

Anything been confirmed about Seriki's injury?

I really hope i’m wrong, but i don’t see Moore scoring 15-20 goals, and that’s the weakness in the side right now.
I think he’ll play a huge part, but we need a ruthless finisher at the top of the pitch.

A big strong lad in midfield wouldn't go amiss. Probably more defensive minded who if necessary can drop back into the back line and is good in the air (in case we have an injury to Souttar).

Oh, and another Brian Deane up top.

Another forward is an absolute must.

A regular goalscorer is needed so we aren't relying on Moore up front, Marsh should be given a chance too, imo. All these changes are what should have been done 2/3 years ago, build for the future and if there is to be new money coming in add to the squad in January

Ideally sell Brewster bring in a striker that can finish then this squad is pushing for autos. What a rebuild this has been with the quality of youth coming off the academy production line too looking forward to this season

Our defense of Anel, JLT and Trusty conceded 104goals last season and clearly not good enough for the PL. Souttar is only good in a 3.
Cooper has to prove himself at the top of the championship as has mostly got League One strikers to back up his stats.

Also, an instinctive striker to put away the chances. Marsh could be the one as his penalty/goal was one of the best. Expecting Brewster to miss, was intelligent as was reacting as fast as he did. However he's still very young so a older version would be good.

He scored 7 in 18 for Ipswich between Jan-May last season so based on that ratio, shouldn't be far off 15-20. Just because he missed a couple at Preston, I don't think means he's another non-scoring striker - we already have enough of those! :)

If/when we go up again the strikers aren't premiership level, as last seasons ones weren't, we will have to recruit again in top flight, let see if the new owner takes us to a new level

Not a huge difference but I think you've missed Campbell from the CF's

Just a mobile centre-forward (although that could well be JRS by the end of the season)

I think/hope Campbell may be the mobile CF we’re looking for…eventually. He’s got something of the Leon about him imho.

Desperate for another quality striker, we’re way short in that department.

As per our last promotion season under Wilder, if we had two CF options on the bench like Madine & Hogan we could really dismantle anybody that wanted to sit in.

One CM to cover Arblaster and Souza and one more LW option would then give us everything we need.

Coburn at Boro looks like he could be going, looked a handful last night.

Pretty sure that Souttar will be in for Anel soon as he won’t have come here to be on the bench.

Robbo captain so that’s not him being dropped. So it’s either a back 3 or Anel goes out…
