I just wanted to see how the majority of members see the season panning out? What's your honest prediction for the next 4-6 weeks ? And then on from there for the next 12 months ?

Just trying to get an idea as to how most see things going.

Lose in play offs no matter how well we play, something crazy will conspire to fuck us over.

Happy with Clough to get another year, I think he will make the right changes in the summer and we'll go up automatically next year.

I'm with you here, not many changes to make, let a few fringe players go, bring in Holt and Davis on permanent deals, buy two big, 'ard centre backs. Win league next year

Here is how I see it.
-We were favourites to go up with most bookies,so not to be in the top 2 is a slight disappointment.

-we still leak goals and we haven't got enough cover in Central defence.

-we are in a very good position to get in the playoffs, and cloughie has a very good record in knockout (cup) games.

- we are getting players back from injuries at the the right time.

- we look like scoring goals. We have a good pairing up top, cover on the bench and midfielders who more than chip in too.

- basically, I think we'll do it!

Unfortunately, history repeating itself

We'll scrape through the play-offs with some real excitement, for the usual 30,000 fan trip to our second home and the all too familiar kick in the bollox at 5.00pm

Honest and dull answer is as a player or manager you absolutely have to take each game as it comes. You maybe have to think two games ahead bc of tiredness, injuries etc but dreaming of play-offs etc distracts from the job at hand which always needs total focus.

As a fan:
  • I think we'll make the play-offs barring disastrous bad luck.
  • If we can field the team which played at Barnsley and they play like they did at Barnsley we can beat anyone.
  • Injuries and lack of CHs mean that's highly unlikely so it's going to be very tight.
  • As always the opposition/s will have similar problems eg we've been up against two dodgy keepers in the last two games afaics. We shouldn't navel-gaze too much thinking we're any worse off than anyone else.
  • Play-offs are a lottery. A refereeing decision for or against, a bad bounce, a slip, anything can swing the result. (Incidentally that's why amongst many other reasons I think it's nonsense to call for a manager to be sacked if a team don't get promoted this way. You might as well pick a card and sack him if it comes up black.)
  • Support will be important and the margins are tight enough that booing or otherwise abusing the players could make a difference eg someone posted about McNulty hearing criticism after being subbed on Satdi. That may well play on his mind.
  • Clough's record in motivating players for big games augurs well. They can play with unrestrained freedom.
  • The play-off record has to end sometime. If we go behind early on in a play-off game it's not the Gods of Football consigning us to our inevitable Doom. We can still win. If the fans believe that. That will help the players.

Play-offs and lose in a spectacular way in which we haven't yet. I can't think of anything that hasn't already been done apart from get beat by a local team. So Chesterfield to beat us in the final.

Happy with Clough and the team in general, just need to find some consistent form, so another year for Clough from me. UTB!

Finish 5th or 6th, win the home leg and take a 1 goal lead away. Then with our makeshift defence the lead won't be enough and that'll be that.

As for Clough, if the above happens then he should go. With the budget he has had, we should have made a serious challenge for automatic so I can't see any reason to think next season would be any better under him.

What about lose to an Own Goal and he resulting player coincidentally signs for the winning team?

I see us beating Chesterfield 2-1 at Wembley and I see us finishing 8th in the Championship next season, with another semi final thrown in.

I'm thinking should I re-new my ST for the kop or try the south stand, should I re-new at all as we might well be still in league one next season and if we are then Murphy will be sold ........................ as usually happens with SUFC just after everyone has bought their season tickets.
Could I stomach another season of Clough's sideways football in this shit league or will he address the problems he has let go all season e.g the lack of centre backs, will this in turn allow us to be more positive and attack teams rather than hope to nick a goal and win 1-0.
Even if we sneak up through the play off's do I have faith that Clough is the man to take us forwards or even build a team that can excite a fan out of his seat ?
Questions, questions and more questions but not much in the way of answers maybe on the 28th of April I should just flip a coin and take pot luck.

I'm thinking why do we keep harping on about our previous playoffs matches forget them, new era different result, just my thoughts

We will reach the play-off final, but play will be halted by the arrival of aliens from the planet Thaarrg. Their attempt to return the ball from Simmo's penalty will inadvertently trigger an interstellar war. In the confusion Chesterfield will be awarded promotion by alphabetical order.

Or.....

Although it may seem unlikely at the moment I just have this odd feeling that we can beat our play-off demons this time.

I thought that as well. The only way we haven't been beaten is by being in the lead - so I reckon we will be 1 or 2 nil up and get pegged back at the death and lose.

I believe that this is the year we get promoted against the odds, the lack of consistency, the lack of height. Which will make full time in the second leg so hard to take.

Love the photo in your avatar. It was in our 1-0 win at Goodison Park in August 1971. Woody scoring the goal. I was on a weeks family holiday in Ayr at the time. we had beaten L**ds (1969 league champions) 3-0, Everton (1970 champions) and a few days later won 1-0 at Arsenal (1971 double winners)

We win the play-off's.
It really is that simple and it's got to happen sometime...
