West Ham and Tevez, also culpable.

In all fairness with a side full of lads who would run through a brick wall for him, and with a full house at a noisy and passionate Bramall Lane i was puzzled on the 13th of May 2007 why we turned in such a flat and disjointed performance.

The had the misfortune of reading that self serving, self gratifying piece of literature where Neil Warnock tells us that he never made a mistake in his life, and then i got the answer. He couldn't concentrate on the match as he was worried about his new contract.

I hate the FA and West Ham for the way they lied and cheated, but if we had beaten Wigan that day then it would have all been someone elses problem, but he placed a greater concern on his new contract, and that is why i will always despise that big nosed, arrogant, egotistical cunt.

You hated him before that as did many others ,in fact the reason he wasnt given a new contract is that mccabe was pandering to the wishes of many of you who wanted him out even if we stayed up

Seems like im the only person on here who remembers things how they were and not to suit an argument

You are probably right he might have had other things on his mind than that match.

Oooh you just can't let it lie can you
If only our Neil had never dragged us up to the premiership then you would never have had to put up with that excitement that would have been so much better wouldn't it..
Look at us 10 years before and up to now after him, tell us he's shit, a cunt etc and call yourself a blade with a straight face

He is shit, he is a cunt, and i'm a Blade with a straight face.

Let's not forget his dalliance with Portsmouth at a very vital stage of the promotion season. A Blade when it suited him but always looking after NW.
Yeah that deffo cost us our premiership place

DB definitely better, but if NW not fit lace his boots how would you describe the other managers we've had between and since?!

Thing is it could have done, that was my point which obviously whooshed over your cranium. Personally I was always very supportive of NW whilst he was manager and sometimes at no small risk to myself on occasions, but once he left, I was able to be a bit more subjective. He was the right man at the right time when he was first appointed. He used the promotion season for his own ends and his tenure as manager in the premiership was to say the least embarassing.

It was an odd situation where he got us promoted but we were content to let his 1-year contract run out - most clubs would have added additional reassurance. When you throw in the fact that Brian Kidd was seemingly installed over his head into the coaching staff, it doesn't exactly look like an ideal situation for someone that exceeded expectations with that set of players in getting automatic promotion, and made us genuine contenders to stay up (again, exceeding expectations). With the speed of Robson's appointment and his availability most of that year, plus the loosening of the purse strings when he was appointed, you get the feeling that regardless of whether Warnock kept us up he was going to be moved on for Robson.

Let's look to the future. In Nigel Clough we have a manager who possesses a set of values that many of us on here don't deserve. Last night was a watershed. The Tevez incident is over. It's been put to bed. Now let's trust the guy, his team, his players and give them the full support to take us back to the place we lost in 2007.

Fuck me even I'm bored of digging this shit up. No one is going to change opinion here and Judge is clearly the only one who remembers anything (apparently) shouldn't this be consigned to the bin of the past by now? Move along.

Warnock didn't say that in his book, so you despise the bloke over something you've made up or imagined.
He consistently said that he had agreed with McCabe to discuss a new contract when the season was over.
A few (anti-Blade) newspapers dragged up the story in the run up to the game to create a story and cause trouble.

These are the Warnock quotes I'm referring to. Where have yours come from? Do you have anything to back up the vitriol?

April 2nd: "Neil Warnock is refusing to think about his own future while Sheffield United are battling for Premiership survival. Warnock's current deal expires in the summer but reports indicated ahead of Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Bolton that he was ready to sign a new long-term contract. Blades chairman Kevin McCabe confirmed at the weekend that he had held some negotiations with Warnock about a new contract. But Warnock has insisted any talks will be put on hold until after Sheffield United's Premiership fate has been decided. "I don't know where it (the speculation) has come from," he said. "This is not the time for me to be finalising the details of the contract. Yes, I have chatted to Kevin McCabe vaguely about the issue but nothing will be decided until we know what division we will be in next year. "We spoke about things, but nothing like what I've read in the papers, especially the figures mentioned. "We are always talking because we have the same ambitions, but we have the overall picture of Sheffield United to consider." United's loss at The Reebok Stadium, coupled with Charlton's victory over Wigan, has left The Blades just one point above the relegation zone."

May 12th:- "Sheffield United boss Neil Warnock has put off contract talks after turning down a new deal.
Warnock has revealed he was offered a new two-year deal a few weeks ago, but he rejected it because it was not what he was looking for.
"I've not agreed to sign a new contract," Warnock told The Times. "They offered me a two-year deal a couple of weeks ago and since it wasn't acceptable, we agreed to put it to one side until the end of the season.
"I said to Kevin McCabe [the club's plc chairman] we should get together after the final game.
"I expect to see him late next week. It's never been a massive issue for us."

This forum in the week before the match. Hardly a mention of Warnock's contract:-

It wasn't seen as a big issue at the time and had no bearing on the Wigan performance or result.

Points from this:

1. Warnock came in when we were seriously bobbar. He steadied the team, brought in new players, we made a couple of good challenges and were not good enough to get through two semi finals and one playoff final in the same, breathtaking season.

2. We gained promotion two seasons later after strengthening and retaining a large portion of that playing staff.

3. We gave the PL a go and had it been for a few setbacks - Gerrard's 'intent' penalty, Kozluk's disallowed goal, even Hulse's broken ankle and then Carlos fucking Tevez, we would have just stayed up.

4. Warnock was offered a two year contract.

5. We can assume that no great investment was coming to the playing staff if we'd been relegated or stayed up.

6. Since Warnock went, we have been seriously bobbar.

Conclusion: Whilst he's not everyone's cup of tea, Warnock didn't destroy this club. The board and McCabe haven't helped much.

Agreed. I can't believe some of the hatred that is still directed at one of the best Blades managers in our lifetime. It's like people are transferring all the disappointment and anger they felt in 2007 on to him.

Is it true that he wasn't invited to our 125 year celebrations? If so that's shameful

I've met him a few times since he left - generally after games or when he has been a pundit for BT Sports etc.
Always shake his hand and thank him for what he did - some great memories and some great games.
Can't understand why people see the need to hate the feller - he may not be an Angel but he is certainly not the Devil's own spawn either.

Some people, quite strangely, always need a dog to kick. NW is can easy target for some Blades and their hatred knows no boundaries.
Quite how they write off his achievements at SUFC with such ease, when they are plain to see, says more about them than the man they attempt to denigrate.

At the risk of angering you....what were Warnock's achievements?
I mean achievements that have lasting value.

Exactly,it took him 7 years to get us to the Premier league. There aren't many clubs who give their manager that long.

When he joined: struggling against relegation from the 2nd tier and crowds averaging about 12K with the PL as far away as the moon.

When he left, just relegated from the PL with crowds of around 30,000, with the income of a PL season plus two years worth of parachute payments which enabled subsequent managers to spend a lot of money to try to get us back in the PL, but which they pissed up the wall.

I don't get the hatred for Warnock. If he'd stayed i'm certain we would have bounced back although he did massively mess up at the end of 2007 though.

No it didn’t.

It took him 2.5 years to build the side that reached a League Cup Semi-Final, FA Cup Final, 3rd in the Championship and the Play-off Final.

When that side was broken up, it took him another 2 years to build the promotion-winning side.

Dec 1999 to May 2006 (5 and a half years)

1999 to May 2006=7 years what ever way you look at it.

He more than doubled the average attendance. Increased the fan base. It’s never dropped to pre-Warnock levels since.

Funded the establishment of the Academy with player sales, increased attendances, cup runs and promotions. We’re still benefitting now.

Finally climbing above Wednesday and scoring numerous memorable victories over them.

Some of the biggest matches and/or thrilling victories we’ll ever see. Leeds (twice), Arsenal (twice), Liverpool (thrice), Spurs, Forest.

A League cup semi, A FA Cup Semi, 3rd place in the Championship, A Play-off Final, A promotion. A season in the Premier League.

But apart from that, what did Warnock ever do for us?

Sorry for being impolite but the others were largely "the shit on the bottom of DB's boots" though I had a soft spot for Spackman for some reason and he had a better win ratio than DB ( though not as good as NC's).
