Good news for us i would say. After having Harvey Barnes recalled back to Leicester, reports this morning suggest they are lining up Woodburn as a replacement.

They've lost Harvey Barnes, maybe that's why? He's gone back to Leicester. They are probably thinking he's going to be a replacement for Harvey Barnes. That he will get the ball on the wing and run like stink with it. Shall we tip them off or let them find out for themselves?

He may do well there if he has the time to build some confidence and make a position his own

He didn’t do that with us and it seems that we saw the chance to bring Dowell in instead.

It’ll be interesting to see how he does but I feel that a side in midtable would be better for him to get a better crack of it.

I don’t think he will do well there though.

He was one of those players who I just couldn’t see why he was tipped for the top, and I think he will be one of the players who disappears off the radar swiftly.

Shame for the lad, but some make it, some don’t, that’s football.

I think they’re the wrong place for him to go.

If he gets some games and the time then there’s every chance he’ll do alright. But it’s a bit of a gamble by West Brom really

Ironically if we’d not done as well then him and Johnson would’ve had more games

I get the impression for West Brom, after losing Harvey Barnes, Woodburn is pretty much the next cab off the rank.

Having said that I don’t think I’ve seen anything from Johnson to suggest he will become a decent player either.

Hmmmmmm........careful what you wish for.

West Brom may use him in the correct position - which is wide left isn't it? It's where he plays for Wales.

Think Harvey Barnes played down the left too.

Not convinced we knew where to play Woodburn - perhaps right player, wrong time for us.

Or possibly wrong player, wrong time FB. I get CW's desire to be equipped for formation changes but he deviates so rarely from 3-4-1-2 that players such as Woodburn and Johnson get very limited time in their best positions.

Yep, you could be right - it's difficult with these young players.

Seeing he was so young and talented, perhaps CW and AK thought they could nurture him into a No:10, but Woodburn couldn't adjust to it.

From what I have seen of Dowell (at Forest) he seems more able to fit into what we need in the 3412 scenario. Without doubt (for me) Duffy can't influence every game for a full 90 mins so we need to alter it a bit - question is: have we got enough from the JTW?

Spot on FB - agree with all that. Woodburn certainly isn't (yet!) cut out to play the #10 role which left Utd very short of cover/competition for Duffy. Yep, Dowell seems to have hit the ground running and I think will do a good job. As a Plan C I think McGoldrick could also do that job if absolutely required.

Depending on any outgoings, I'd still like a pacy striker (preferably one that can score :-) ) and another CB (as I'm not at all convinced by Stearman) during the JTW which would give them a shout of achieving top 6 (at least).

I'm totally up for McG in the No:10 - and again (this season) McG drops deep anyway in games - in effect making us a 3421, which makes us very competitive in the midfield area. Got a feeling we'll play this v Swansea and try and flood midfield. We were very fluid like this v Wigan with McG pulling them all over the place.

As for JTW - pacy striker is something a lot of us want - not convinced there is anyone now and if there is, do we have the money.

IKSWITK (I Know Someone Who's In The Know) ... at the West Brom End that is...and they said to me this morning that Woodburn to West Brom is a done deal.

BUT . . . he also said that they are getting someone else in who will destroy this league. He said that Dwight Gayle may have had a head start on hm (just the 14 goals), but he reckons the new guy will be ahead of him in the goal scoring charts cum the end of the season. Who can it be? Harry Kane? Mo Salah? Chris Porter?

This could be a risk if he passes on our training, tactics etc

Have they signed Gary Madine as well?

Come on now, Grappler. We all know there is only one club that such a galactic, 'piss the league's scoring records' player could come from, and Madine no longer belongs to them. Shame on you.

Before a ball was kicked this season , WBA were my favourites for promotion ( unlike the bookies who had Stoke at 13 / 8 WTF !! ) but now the've lost Harvey Barnes , I can see them going into a steep decline , which is good news for us .

Woodburn will come nowhere near close to replacing him .

Dowell did more in his brief cameo off the bench on Saturday, than Woodburn did throughout his whole loan period.

If you are a good player, you don’t need five or six games to start making a contribution. Woodburn got plenty of opportunity to show what he was capable of and sadly failed to take them.

As I recall Woodburn made an excellent pass to set Clarke up vs Norwich and Clarke failed to take the opportunity – he should have scored. I’m confident Dowell will have much more of an impact in his loan spell, but I don’t recall him setting anyone up for a decent chance on Saturday – there weren’t any for either team other than the goal tbh. He looks encouraging, but let’s keep that in perspective.

As for Woodburn, he needs to make sure he’s heading somewhere he’s likely to be playing. If he goes to West Brom I think he’ll find his opportunities limited – perhaps not as limited as with us, but nonetheless not as open as a team not towards the top of the Championship.

The crux of the matter is, Woodburn was given every opportunity to stake a place in the team. As I recall, he didn’t do that, when he played, he just coasted, didn’t make himself available or get involved and when he did, played a safe pass. He is a young lad, I think he was scared to make a mistake, which is understandable.

Dowell on the other hand, was always available and wanting to get involved. He made several creative forward passes in tight spaces down the left, he played with maturity and confidence.

In a year or two maybe Woodburn wil tool, who knows, but it didn’t happen this season. :(
