Well if its throwing it back in their faces that motivates him, they’ve given him plenty to chuck back!

He’s only the same age as Max Lowe and yet one is seen as a prospect, and one is seen as a write-off!

I love a pacy big-bastard, and I hope he kicks on and makes a home for himself at Bramall Lane.

His athletic ability is unquestionable and that in itself is a key element of what is needed for the pacy striker role. What is less certain is if there is a footballer there. I expect that we'll get him extremely fit and simplify what we require from him. How to press and where to run in behind when we have the ball. The rest will depend on his technical ability. This is a typical Wilder reclamation project: if it doesn't work out the money involved is negligible. If it does we're quids in.

You only have to watch his interview He seems quite shy and quiet and even lacking in confidence. This is a definite Wilder project. Get him believing and Blades Analytics stats say we have a good player

Definitely sounds like a he could thrive under Wilder.....as with any job, get the right manager in, and it can be night and day difference in staffs performance....Chris's the right manager!!🙂👌

Your goodself and need4speed have called it correct he's a Wilder project.
Sprinkle some Wilder dust over him and watch him develop, I've said it, most on this board have said it. In Wilder we trust.

“Sheffield United fans seem excited about Burke….. have they not saw him play”

No, we isn't saw him yet.
don't cut the poor lad up yet, he hasn't even played for us yet, he will be in pieces otherwise....

well, not quite. If Callum Robinson does well, we’ve also lost something there.

and perhaps people can enlighten me: in what sense is he a striker? He’s a winger. Wilder doesn’t use wingers.

I find this an odd deal.

If Wilder thinks Burke is a great player that's fine by me.

I don't think we'd have got more money moving him on elsewhere. The bottom seems to have fallen out of the Championship market post Covid. Same with Luke Freeman. The player didn't fit our system, and for me he didn't look the same player after the bad hamstring injury at PNE. He seems to have lost some of his pace and explosiveness.

“I think what Oli needs to do is to find a home. He has been drifting around from club to club and going here and there. He needs to find a manager who loves him and he needs to find a club he can call home. When he gets that he will improve, he will get better.

“He is a relatively young man, he hasn’t got too many international caps. Sometimes the pressure is to push these players all the time and to say ‘well, he plays alright for his club, but he doesn’t play too well for Scotland’. But it is a different level.

“It takes time to step up, get used to the environment, find a bit of confidence at that level. I think confidence with Oli Burke will be a big factor, he’s a confidence player.”
“I think he has been a little bit unfortunate with a few of the moves he has made that it hasn’t quite allowed him to be able to continue his development. I go back to what I said before, he needs to find a home. He needs to find somewhere where he can go and play week in, week out. I’m sure if he gets that his performance levels will be good.”

Does Burke fit our system?

Just been looking around on the Celtic board from when Burke was on loan there and the comments from when Rodgers had him are much more positive:

"Bhoy is an absolute * workhorse man."

"Alot of time for the big man. Works like a trojent and is rapid."

"The thing i like about him in the striker role. He doesn't do what Dembele & Eddie do, when they just jog across to the defender shutting down the angle. Burke is right on top of the defender & we are either getting mistakes or they just punt, giving us the ball back."

"Fantastic workrate, absolutely brilliant.
Took on a couple of shots from silly angles tho and did seem to give Weah an earful after one of them. Think he felt Weah should have made a better angle but I was a bit unimpressed by it, no need to have a go."

"He can be special."

"Fantastic work rate. Powerful and rapid. Just needs to work on his touch."

"Great game again I thought, Edouard will actually struggle to get back in. He's more powerful on the ball and dominated defenders better than Edouard even though Edouard is more slick and skillful but Burke's way of playing is working so far."

Big, quick, great work rate - sounds like everything Wilder would want in a blank slate. Risky signing but can see the logic behind it.

If this Burke kid is lazy and all that blah that West Brom fans say, the first thing that will happen is he'll die for about 2 months while he gets used to the fitness regime, so I wouldn't expect to see much from him before late Autumn (if he does come good).

As the other signings have already commented that the training here is a different level - I think you could well be right!

No doubt if he's to play in our system, he's going to have to lose a bit of upper body weight!

I'm really not excited by this signing... don't know why, he looks happy to be a Blade so I'll wait and see what he's like in a Blades shirt before passing judgement.

Here he is in a Blades shirt.

Can we have your judgement now please? ;)
Bugger! Forgot everyone was so literal on here 😋

My provisional judgement is: The shirt suits him. He looks like a mirror universe Jack O'Connell. Unfortunately that is not enough evidence to pass down judgement. I hearby call recess and will make a judgement in a couple of months after "I've seen him in a Blades kit and running/passing/shooting with a football in a venue that has been deemed appropriate for the playing of professional association football against another professional team whom to compete with".

Snippet of a write up from the Spanish league:
It was a tough game for Real, with Alaves putting in a plucky display that very nearly saw them snatch something from the game.

One player who impressed throughout the fixture certainly came as a shock to Celtic fans.

Oliver Burke, on loan at the Spanish club from West Brom, put in a stellar display, particularly in the first-half, as he gave the Real Madrid defence plenty to think about.

If he can use his pace and power to drag defenders out of position as they try to track him, allowing more skilful players through on goal, I'll be happy. It's not all about how many you score or set up, it's about how you influence play. IWWT
Agree, there's also a lack of pelanty winners so he might be the one for bursting into the box and getting hacked down by a gentle breeze. Hopefully Norwood becomes the taker. Bill is ok but misses too many

There's a forward that a fair number of our fans are getting excited about purel on the back of a performance against Real Madrid and he's apparently costing £20M, they're in favour of.

Those comments are actually not as bad as I was expecting!

I can not argue against us signing young players who have all the attributes that we are lacking, i.e pace, power, dribbling. You can coach positioning and decision making, you can't coach raw athleticism

Cheers Roy, he wont be missed at WBA will he. He's going to have to suprise a lot of people to prove he can play. Doesnt make nice reading, bit worried tbh.

My you get some bile when a player goes

Some players will click in one team and look lost in another. Its like a jigsaw puzzle
Either pieces fit or stay on the edge of the board
