I have to admit I feel safer with Wes in goal than Ramsdale I always thought their was a mistake around the corner with Ramadale

Wes has done us proud proving to be on top of his game and what a penalty stop that was and yes certainly a safe pair of hands

As I've said in another post, every part of his game (communication, distribution, shot stopping and command of his area) is simply flawless at the moment. His long kicks upfield are targeted and I don't think I've seen one miss yet.

It's a strange comparison to make - but he reminds me of Virgil Van Dijk in that he's calm, makes good decisions and his presence emanates throughout the team.

Excellent goalkeeper and a major contributor to our current success.
 
But when he next makes a couple of bad mistakes all of a sudden Wes will be crap....belongs in league 1.

He's doing well (much better than expected) but he's hardly played any games for us to date...so it's probably best to wait until the end of the season before making a proper judgement. Remember how in a few games Robinson was written off as crap get rid.....now he's an excellent defender.

Agree with your comments regards Ramsdale I always sensed a nervousness when defending but Arsenal fans think he's one of the best keepers in the country.
Since he's gone there, they've won almost every match and hardly conceded. They would probably want 40 million for him now.

I agree mainly, but some of his kicking is misguided often because the pass back is poor or rushed and he has little time to look up.
He does make me worry sometimes when he allows the opposition to get close to him, but otherwise he is excellent.
 
Difficult to praise Wes high enough. Rangers fans hinted that we’d got a good un. Seems they were right.
 
I can remember George Long getting something like 22 clean sheets for Danny Wilson, but in reality we had little to do as we were battering teams week in, week out.

Wes currently ranks 21st in number of starts in the division with only 18.

Wes has faced 49 shots on target in those matches of which he has saved 40, bringing him 3rd in the division for saves percentage.

Although he has played less games than other keepers, the number of average shots he faces and number of saves he makes puts him firmly in the top ten alongside keepers like Samba at Forest, who is a very good goalkeeper.

As for clean sheets Wes has 12 tying him joint second in the division, with the leader on 13. The other three keepers tied and above him have all played 10 or more matches than Wes, making him the divisional leader for clean sheets.

Wes isn't significantly any less busier than other keepers in the division and the numbers tell the story. He's a damn good keeper and a very consistent one.

He’s an absolute unit too, have you seen the size of his shoulders!
 
Must admit I was calling him League One Wes
Im very happy he has in no uncertain terms proved me totally wrong

Samba at Forest is NOT a good goalkeeper at all.
 
He's a good Shelia, Bruce and not at all stuck up.

Last night it was a case of stick or twist after Egan had dropped him in it. He was left stranded by a superb chip for their goal and bears no responsibility at all. The thing I particularly like is the fact that when the opposition get a corner and it’s swung into the box anywhere near him, he commands his area and grabs the ball - his first thought is “that’s mine”. Keep improving and he could be talked about as one of our top keepers of recent years and that includes Ramsdsle or Hendo.

Keep it up Wes !

Honestly wouldn’t say Ramsdale was one of our top keepers. Strange but I kind of forgot about him until I’ve just read his name.

There was one grab in particular, just as Sunderland were pushing for an equaliser in the 7 (!) minutes of stoppage time. He came and plucked the corner out of the air, went to ground and just killed their momentum stone dead.

The sort of thing you cry out for a decisive goalkeeper to come and do. Robin Olsen this time last year would have flapped, missed it and Sunderland would have bundled home a late equaliser.

Yes I remember that corner last night. I actually thought “ anywhere near Wes and we’re safe”. Job done !

He has been excellent.

But I disagree on the goal. Anel was covering across and could have forced the attacker out wide. Foderingham made the strikers mind up for him by charging out as he did.

Yeah, absolutely. We also don't have the benefit of seeing the game unfold from his eyes.
Anel's presence may have not been within his peripheral vision and he had to make a split second decision.
It's certainly not one you'd crucify him for.
 
Wes was excellent last night, some great takes and such.

However, not sure what he was doing on the goal. Although the blame was with Egan and McAtee, he didn't need to race out like that. AA would have got there and it would have took some finish to beat Wes if he'd stayed just a few yards off his line. By coming to edge of his area, I felt he gave Gooch an extra option, i.e. the chip. If he stays back, Gooch takes a touch and that potentially allows AA the block and makes the shot more difficult to score.

Small gripe, mind you. He's been excellent since he got the shirt and I am fully confident with him in our goal.
 
Wes has exceeded all expectations and is rightly a fan favourite.
He did make a fatal mistake on their goal. Standing his ground instead of rushing out would have stacked the odds in his favour as the striker would have had one if not two defenders on him a further 10 yards forward. wes made his option simple. Lob. That said I think he is more than good enough for where we are. Just need to keep Sander right of centre, and introduce Doyle to replace Fleck and Khadra to play behing Illian/Rhian.
