Defectum Heroicis
My answer to this question was a simple yes, but we have to remember one thing..........
We didn't "get rid" - he resigned.
I didnt he resign, his contract expired

I count myself amongst his biggest fans but on the day he went, with all the emotion of the time, I thought it was the right decision.
With hindsight, it was an awful decision. He had the necessary strength of character and charisma to drag us back to our feet. We had the players when we came down, I strongly believe that. It was just that McCabe, Robinson, whoever decided the best course of action was to throw money at ageing has-beens and neverwasbeens. We still haven't recovered
also think that he wasted money whenever he got the chance to spend in the transfer market.
Are you suggesting Luton Shelton wasn't worth £1.75M?
UTB
Yeah, fuck it admit i was wrong.
Especially as the going rate was £2m for Geoff Horsfield and £1.75m for Ade Akinbiyi

I think we should have got rid of him as soon as we were promoted.
harsh i know, but it was obvious he just isnt cut out for PL managment.
His signings at Xmas baffled me.
Example - Hulse got injured & it was obvious to everyone that we needed an experienced Striker to replace him.
We got Shelton.
Correct me if I'm wrong but Shelton was not signed as a replacement for an injured Hulse. You could argue that Warnock should have signed cover for Hulse but that was Stead wasn't it?
We needed someone like a Kevin Davies. An experienced player who had played in the PL for a few years.
Wasnt Stead drafted in from the Championship? Im not knocking him as he did alright but i wouldnt say he was the targetman we needed at that time.
Only once we had gone down did McCabe decide to increase the pay scale and allow Robson to sign the type of player you describe (Beattie, Naysmith, Ehiogu, Speed). If he'd given Warnock the same backing, I believe we (and Warnock) would still be in The Premiership now.

We had a bid accepted for Stephen Warnock in the January window as I recall, only for Blackburn to out-do us when it came down to wages. You could argue that even with the Robson era wage flexibility, we may still have lost out in that particular transfer - we will never know. Would his place in the back 4 have helped us to at least one more point that season? Quite possibly.
Warnock wasn't everyone's cup of tea and, as in the case with Blackwell, some of the stuff said about him online bordered on the abusive towards the end of his reign.
Warnock was unable to get a team to get the one point needed against a poor Wigan side that would have kept us up.So in answer to your question yes it was time for Warnock to leave he'd had is time.
Only SUFC could blow it on the last day of the season with our fate in our own hands.
In my lifetime
Walsall 80/81 - relegated when we needed a point at home - AND we had a penalty kick 'saved'
LS26BLADE said:Chelsea 93/94 - IMO Bassett cost us this we were 2-1 up and should have defended the lead, a draw would have done - we let 2 goals in the space of 5 mins to go down and become the laughing stock of everyone everywhere.
LS26BLADE said:Wigan 06/07 - We needed a point - Warncunt banged on about a contract - we went down - Sean Bean should have strangled that wanker when he had the chance.

We had been 1-0 down as well, and with ten minutes to go at 2-1 up, we would have been 14th in the table.
No, we went 1-0 up at Chelsea, via Flo's goal.
Absolutely unequivically no. Warnock should have stayed. He was our Alex Ferguson If his meeting with McCabe had been delayed a few days to let things calm down, reason may have won the day. In the event we got Robson and its been downhill ever since. How much evidence do you need?
That wasn't the question... the question was, were we right to get rid of him when we did?
And this from the man who was singing Akinbadbuy's praises after the match away at Derby.
To answer the question directly ...... yes we were right in my opinion. NW did a fabulous job for us, however, he had taken us as far as he was able. he was not able to manage/motivate/coach "better" quality players
UTB
I'd be interested to know what NW feels about his PL season looking back now. Personally I don't think we did ourselves justice, sure we battled and always gave 100%, but as DonnyBlade says he wasn't willing to take an attacking gamble.
Signings were always gambles, but I guess there were reasons for that
When I watch him now, he seems so relaxed, whereas with us he was always under pressure, probably a lot of which was self imposed.
It was certainly the time for him to move on when he did. Just a pity it wasn't under better circumstances.
If Hulse'd stayed fit, we'd certainly stayed up
