We're desperate for a striker and the stats show it

You & me both. If we don’t get promoted this season, we’re screwed and we’re in for 2 or 3 seasons of struggle followed by relegation. The depth and age profile of the squad is genuinely scary, our 1st keeper is owned by someone else and we’ve been reliant on one player for the majority of our goals since July ‘15. We have no money to rectify this situation. When I say ‘no money’, I mean not sufficient an amount to pay the going rate for players needed, which could number 4 or 5 in close season and in one go. And yet we are happily approaching the waterfall in our little barrel, laughing at Wednesday’s demise. We’ll be following them over if we’re not careful.
Not a snowballs chance we will get promoted. Unless McC and Princey dig deep we will be staring the other end of the Championship in the face, If not this season then definitely next.

I really don’t have a problem with McG and MUCH prefer him to partner Sharp than any other pairing.

Good intelligent players do better playing alongside good intelligent players. Simples.

I can see why Wilder chooses to go with Washington when he feels there may be more grass in behind, typically in away games.

My prophecy, much scoffed at, at the time, that we should have shifted Leon on 12 months ago when the opportunity presented itself, is not just increasingly accurate, it’s now a detriment to the offensive options and capabilities we have at our disposal.

Consider that we just might have had a striker in the ranks, so desperately lauded by the many on here, that could actually contribute positively, and consider where we might be as a consequence !!

The way we play is the problem. We are obsessed with crosses and can’t seem to play quickly through the middle. Our crosses take far too long to materialise and opposition defences get forever to prepare for the inevitable
How many deflected shots have resulted in goals against us? if we shot a bit more I’m sure we could get a piece of the action.
I’ve often seen Sharp early on in attacking play hand up in space unmarked quite central to goal waiting for an intelligent through ball only to be overlooked in favour of playing pretty triangles near the opposition byline which
by the time it’s eventually put in the box is ineffective due to a packed defence.
We have a Fox in the box striker that with the right service could hit 25 goals a season at this level.......easy.
I’m appreciative of the football Wilder has brought but our obsession with reaching the byline is why we are slowly
Moving towards a mid table finish.
Post of the week!

We are too reliant on Sharp, who although some said he was past it 2-3 years ago is still knocking them at this level, but he's 32, we can't rely on him forever we desperately need a striker who can find the net.

Sharps 12 goals have won us 15 points this season, if you took those away we'd be 21st, one place above relegation, this to me shows how dependant we are on Sharp this year.

Last year Clarke got 18, Sharp got 10, we didn't depend on one player to get us goals unlike this year, if we don't sign a striker in January then someone has questions to answer as to why.

McGoldrick scored 5 goals this season 4 of which were penalties.
Clarke has 2 in his limited amount of games
Washington yet to score (again in limited amount of games)
Woodburn is no where to be found
Goals from Midfield seems lacking
Goals from Defence is pretty much non existent (remember when Maguire would hit 5-6 a season?)
So with your logic ,if Henderson hadnt played we would have conceded about 300 goals.
Classic bedwetters thread

We’re exactly half way thro the season, and he’s on 12, so he is on course for 24 goals to be fair.

Which would be better than Clarke’s total last season and McGoldrick is on course to get 12 which would be better than Sharp’s total (including penalties which still counted as goals last time I checked).

Sharp scored 13 last season.

He's only on course to score pens if we actually win any.

and a keeper....

I've been banging on about this. Given we have no money, we're going to be totally fucked. We've kept putting it off or signing older players. We should have brought in a young striker in summer, even if it would have been a gamble.
We've got one haven't we.....Smith.

Fair enough. My fault for believing the original post that said he got 10.

The point is that we’re not reliant on only one striker scoring any more than we were last season.

Goal totals for both our main strikers are on target to be similar.

Why not just bump the thread from last time we didn’t win, or the time before, or the time before? We know what we need, we’ve got eyes.

Off on a tangent here, when was the last time we got a red card? Was it v Brentford last season?
Our disciplinary record under Tufty is something that rarely gets a mention. Considering the high tempo, pressing game, the players have to be commeneded for their records over the last 2 1/2 seasons. The likes of Bash, Fleck would be nailed on for 15 bookings and a couple of reds a season and whilst they both have seen red (once each from memory), the fact we rarely have suspensions speaks volumes for the way the team/squad/managament play and control themselves.

You do understand that we have used the Brooks money to plug the loss we will make this year don’t you?! If the owners aren’t willing to put their own cash in then we didn’t really have any choice. Until we have an owner willing to put £8m+ a year in we will be in the same position.

I can’t criticise them as unfortunately I don’t have this money to put in myself, nor does anyone on here, yet still they moan like fuck about the lack of investment. Maybe if it was your personal wealth dwindling by £8m each year you might think differently.

I do kind of agree with your point. However if you don't want to lose £8 million a year or can't afford to fund the team/losses then stand aside and let someone else have a crack.

If we are relegated next year these same owners would be battling to get rid of their shares not the other way around.

I dread to think where we’d be without Billy this season. He is our single source of goals and he’s almost single handedly dragged us into the top 6.

He’s in that very top tier Blades legend bracket and there’s no doubt about it.

Can you show me the line of people queuing up to throw money at us? Did McCabe battle to get rid of us when we were in league 1?

It’s much easier spending other people’s money than your own.

I'll bet you one english pound that, when the time comes, Sheffield Wednesday will attract a number of interested parties, and be sold without a problem at a decent price to a foreign investor/investors.

I really hope a megalomaniac foreigner with 2 year attention span buys us, I’ve always wanted a team full of overpaid crocks and a manager who did well once in one of the European top divisions.

Yes, foreign owners never achieve anything. I mean, look at the teams who went up last year....

I'll cling to that crumb of comfort when I'm sat watching a team mostly made up of over 35's getting dry bummed by salford city hotshots in 3 seasons time, in front of 8,000 fans at BDTBL, occupying 3 sides of the ground because we can't afford to open it up fully. I'll shout to the bloke next to me, separated by a bank of empty faded pink seats "We might be p*ss poor mate, but at least we're owned by a 100% blade/born on John St/played local sunday league football/watched hagan/cried at when we went down to the 4th/gawd love 'im". :)

I wasn't wishing for us to be like SWFC, I was just commenting on their ability to be owned by someone who wants to sell, to market the club and then sell the club. Ignoring the success of the purchasers, it must have happened 4 times since KM attempted to do the same with us. If they get sold this time, questions might need to be asked why?

I agree but referencing the shit show at S6 isn’t the best way to get your point across.

In my view the only reason that we haven’t been sold is that McCabe overvalues us when he tries to sell the club. He’s entitled to want a decent return for the endless millions he’s put in but at some point he needs to accept that he isn’t going to get it all back and as Elsa says “let it go”.

It just goes to show the role of B Sharp strike partner is wide open in the window.

McGoldrick plays well but has little end product. In fact his scoring record from open play is poor.

Get someone in as a regular for Sharp who scores, like Defoe, and this team could really fly especially if Dowell comes and provides goals from midfield.

Two good signings by Chris and this team could really shock the division to be fair.

We seem to have a few starters who would make handy subs but just need those key two now.

Could quite easily have been Norwood yesterday after he clattered that lad from behind. I was quite far away but there was some concern he’d raised his arm (mainly because their guy went down like he’d been shot).

If I didn't have millions of pounds of disposable income a year I wouldn't buy a football club.
It's almost as if it's a shock to our owners that football clubs lose money every year.

Their player seemed to make a right meal of it.

At the time when McCabe bought into the Blades he was richer and the cash requirements to run a club were smaller. As I’ve mentioned elsewhere it’s about time he cut his losses and went but at the moment it’s a case of ‘better the devil you know’ for me.
