"... We're going for it"

I wasn't there, but those were the words out of Kevin McCabe's mouth.

It's going to be an interesting summer!

Up the fucking Blades. I'm still rather inebriated.

Addressing fans outside Bramall Lane this evening, McCabe said: "It's been ten years since we were relegated from the Premier League, but this club is on an upward curve. "This is a club that is going places. We have a great manager and a great infrastructure to enable us to challenge in the Championship. We are a big club in terms of facilities and supporters, and we get more kids through the doors than our neighbours across the city."

Did I note a little dig there from Kev?

The interesting comment for me is the mention of infrastructure and young kids coming through the academy.

I dont follow the youth teams that closely but from what I have seen of Brooks, Semple, Whiteman, J.Wright and Hallam we have another reason to feel encouraged with what's going on at our club at the moment.

Whiteman has a huge future ahead of him.

It's all looking up :D

Might be another on the way through to stardom?

When he says "kids through the door" does he mean young supporters attending matches or youth prospects into the accadamy?

Let's hope it's true , because let's be honest we have heard similar words before from him, in 2006 to name but once.
to be fair he gave Warnock money and he blew it on mediocre buys
we needed an experienced striker and midfielder and he got Shelton and Fathi

kev stumped up the cash

I hope we scout the lower leagues for up coming players. When a decent championship striker (Rhodes) is going for £10m we need to be intelligent in our scouting as personally wouldn't want us spunking that kind of cash on one player/

He said "colleagues" not "neighbour's"btw. This has been incorrectly quoted elsewhere (by the BBC) too. And Rob Staton said Billy Sharp scored our winning goal yesterday.

Oh, I assumed he meant supporters.
Now you mention it it's not even up for debate about the young players we bring through.
Could be either, could be both.

What was it he said before? Europe in 5 years? Maybe he meant the pre season tours to Malta?

Actions speak louder than words! Let's see if these comments get backed up in the transfer window.

Let Kev have his day. The bloke's probably laid in bed at night thinking that if he doesn't get us up before he dies he'll be remembered as a chairman who fucked us up. He's a Blade and if any one of us were in his shoes, that thought would be mortifying for us and I'm sure it was for him.

So let's have one day where we don't moan about the owners, bitch about former managers, have a go at each other. No stress, no worries, let's just enjoy promotion and look to winning the title.

We're back. UTB

Both I suspect!

I hope Wednesdays continue to charge a fortune for young fans to attend. We'll carry on picking up most of those without any ties and giving them the bug of being a Blade.

You're right!
He does seem to stupidly rely on his managers to get the team playing well!

Probably the best comment I've ever read on this forum.

UTB.

Kev McCabe was in TGI Fridays in Northampton at about 1 o'clock yesterday having a drink with the Blades before the game. Very approachable and had time to talk to everyone who came in.

Didn't buy us a beer though the tight get :D

Let's get one thing clear. Lest anyone be wishing on a star, we aren't going to challenge in the Championship on a tidal wave of young tyros.
Perhaps Chris Wilder may already be aware of this very fact......

Maybe the Prince will take a bit more interest in things again too.

Didn't they say that there would be a step change in investment when we got to the Championship - or have I imagined that?
Kev will tell you that you do indeed have a good imagination.

The majority of teams that have gone up from league 1 over the last 7 years have not come back down yet, and I don't see why we should either. Survival and consolidation is all I'm bothered about for next season.
