My former life, brother billyMy favourite chant for a while. Irony and self-deprecation in abundance. Alien concepts to the twats who spawned it![]()
I blamed this chant for the Reading 'fight back'. They seemed so upset that they finally went for it. Don't try it again.Agreed, and I liked the You're Fucking Shit/We're Fucking Good masterpiece too.
Are we too late for this year's Ivor Novello?

David Brooks, schoolboy looks...Can’t be any worse than the brooks song, now that’s a terrible song

Something originally, rather than stolen from another club, would make a refreshing change.Any Joy Division-derived chant is alright by me!
Unless someone attempts a version of 'Atmosphere'... now that would be a durge.
'Walk in silence' reminds me of the Adkins era. The players didn't run much and we didn't cheer much.Any Joy Division-derived chant is alright by me!

If younger fans didn’t see Giggs it’s highly unlikely they’ve heard Joy Division either so the chant has even less relevance. We have a number of original songs in our repertoire. More than many other clubs I daresay.
I think some people get a bit too precious about things being 'original'. Some were moaning about Brooksys song because Man U had it for Giggs. How long has be been retired? Younger fans might not have even seen him play, nevermind heard his song.
If all clubs tried to outdo each other in the originality department, we'd have H block of the Kop reeling off a version of some mediocre Shania Twain album track to praise Carruthers or summet daft.
Don't see many moaning about the Couttsy song even though I've heard a few other clubs sing their own versions. In reality, it really doesn't matter that much. Long as fans are having fun.

Just copying other teams songs is boring, do something original, as you said we’ve already many others so follow that example.
I never saw Elvis. Does that mean 'Take my hand...' is irrelevant? Shall we scrap that one?

It was your point around not knowing Giggs or heard it being sung as being relevant. I don’t think it is. It’s a chant strongly linked with a particular player, that’s the point.I never saw Elvis. Does that mean 'Take my hand...' is irrelevant? Shall we scrap that one?
You have the floor, sir. Let's hear what you've got!
Reading fans were singing it too yesterday. I got a bit confused as I thought at first it was coming from Bramall Lane upper and then realised it was the Reading fans.Don't see many moaning about the Couttsy song even though I've heard a few other clubs sing their own versions. Who cares? We need more atmosphere, not worrying about song originalityIf younger fans didn’t see Giggs it’s highly unlikely they’ve heard Joy Division either so the chant has even less relevance.
