Just been having a banter with a Wednesday fan, and the 1993 semi final at Wembley cropped up. I said forget Chris Waddle, the only thing that is memorable was Alan Cork scoring, and the amazing, fantastic red flares from our end. Really wish flares could be still used, proper football feeling !

Were you talking to yourself?

My main memory is the team not turning up as usual for the big occasion apart from Alan Kelly, without who, it would have been 10-1.

The pre match feeing was SWFC had all the flair and skill but SUFC had the energy, desire, teamwork and battling spirit.
So we did have a chance because we showed it when we did the double over them in 92
.......however maybe it was the hot sunny day and big pitch because after about 20 minutes most of our players looked knackered.

Also suspect there must have been pre match adrenaline because unusually for us....we really lacked energy and it became a really one sided match.
Pretty incredible that it was 1-1 at full time. I just kept thinking if we can take it to penalties we just might win
but inside I'd have felt slightly embarrassed winning on penalties because on the day we were outclassed.
Remember they had a few 1 on 1's with only Kelly to beat...a fair result would have 4-0 but as you say could have been 6 or 7-1.

I was livid the whole game because in the two league games against them, we'd been in their faces not giving them an inch and then we let them have the freedom of the park at Wembley.

My uncle Jim, who's sadly no longer with us, spent half the match in the back of a police van after getting chucked out for setting a flare off, he used to tell the story any chance he got

There would have been a replay at Elland Road had it been drawn AET.

If only it hadn't been moved from Leeds. Different story, maybe. We played them in the league a few days later and were ourselves.
A Wendy pal of mine said that we were the dirtiest team he had ever seen.
I remember Hirst squaring up to someone and about 4 of our players dragged his head down whilst Hartfield volleyed him.

I think we'd only played then once that season at the point of the Semi. 1-1 at BL, Littlejohn for us, Hurst for them.

We then drew 1-1 at the Sty, Deano scored.

yes that decision definetly cost us we would have given them a much better game at elland road wembley suited their style down to the ground we were battered that day and would have lost 5 - 1 if not for alan kelly at least we totally outballooned them lol
