Thanks Tenor! Just up my street (not literally ;) ) and as we'd be arriving in KCX at about 10.15am, was thinking of stopping for a good brew and meal! Really appreciated fella, saved me hunting high 'n' low for somewhere. Tell ya, years since I've been in London and even then I don't like hanging around...

Hope you like it, bit pricey like I said, service was excellent very friendly. As you walk down the platform from the train turn right I think it is signed "Kings Cross/St Pancrass" underground, then when on the concourse, turn right again and it is up a steep flight of steps (there is a lift on the RHS).

Probably a stupid question but I don't go to that there London much.
If four of us are making a return journey from a northern tube station (e.g. Watford to Wembley Park).
Would it be better to buy four return tickets or a London Travelcard each?
If you buy the return tickets, do you have to specify what time you're returning?

Really grateful for that mate! But pricey? It's London, I'd expect nothing less :rolleyes: Just had a quick look at the link you posted, looks decent and I reckon me and my lad will be famished when we get there (early set-off for us).

Depends on zones etc. but if you're on the tube, they don't do returns. It's either day travelcards or singles.

Taking your example, Watford Underground to Wembley Park. It's on one line and you pass through zones 7, 6, 5 and 4.

You're talking £11.60 each for an off-peak day rail card for zones 4-7 or a single fare of £4.30.

Probably better to buy a return ticket - it's £4.30 each way from Watford, so £8.60 in total (£5.20 return if you have an Oyster) whereas a day Travelcard is more expensive. Ask at Watford when you buy your ticket, but getting a return means you don't have to faff at Wembley on the way back. No need to specify trains!

See Linz's slightly more detailed information above...I didn't know you couldn't get a return these days. It might be worth getting an Oyster and loading some cash on, but if you don't travel in London much maybe it isn't worth the hassle.

Ok, so taking the other option of the tube from Canons Park, I only pass through zones 4 and 5.
That makes the choice £4.30 each way (£8.60) or a travel card for £8.50 and no faffing buying tickets at Wembley.
If thats right, I think we may have a winner!

Or £2.80 with an Oyster. I'll shut up now, before being accused of working for TFL. :)

They won't be. It is only the super off-peak, off-peak and anytime tickets that will be valid at any time over the weekend, and the Advance tickets will only be valid on the services that they have an accompanying reservation for.

Bradford Blade, My son and I are probably on the same 'Rattler' as you, we are getting on at Donny. We are meeting up with my cousin who is a Bradfordian Blade, who now works for Thames Water, we are meeting up with him in the Wetherspoons just outside Baker Street tube station. We had a full English and a couple of "Ice Cold's" the last time we were down there, Wemberleee is only a few stops away on the tube too..
 
Just a note of caution on the Watford route, the train/tube from there to Wembley is/was v Burnley an all station stopper of around 13 stops and when you're coming back all the traffic you think you've got ahead of has caught up by the time you get there.

Far better to drive another junction down to Stanmore/Canons Park etc, or even better go down the A1.
 
If anyone is driving from the Manchester area and wants to chop the petrol I'd probably be interested assuming I can get a reasonably priced seat once my pathetic amount of loyalty points allows. Cheapest train back would require using first class or a mad dash back to Euston even if it doesn't go to extra time

Can vouch for this too - cheers for the heads up Kendall! Just got the family/friends Railcard for £14 in Clubcard points (as Providence would have it we got the online vouchers issued Sunday :eek: )...effectively 'free' then and saving me close to £50 on the train tickets, not bloody bad at all. So far so good :p

So it's £5.30 Euston Square to Wembley each way, seem to remember it was about £2.50 3 years ago :eek:

What you need Fleety is either a travelcard (Zones 1 to 3 I think) or (bit faffier if cheaper) an Oyster card.
 
Looks like parking at Harrow On The Hill is for season ticket holders only (unfortunately not Sheff Utd season ticket holders). We were planning on driving to Harrow, leaving the car there and then getting the tube to Wembley.
 
If driving down, where is the best place to park? Need guaranteed parking, reasonably secure and close to tube - ideally with direct line to Wembley. If possible, could you be specific about where the car park actually is and whether you need to / can book the parking in advance?

Swiss top tips:

Take the train the night before
Stay the night in a swanky (or non swanky) hotel - stayed at London bridge in 09, decent deals through laterooms
Take the train back next day at your leisure
Get an oyster card if you're taking the tube

I'll be arriving in London Sunday evening for a training course for those blades still around for a beer the next day :)
 
Oyster Card sounds like a good idea. How much would I need on it for Harrow/Wembley/Wembley/Harrow?
 
for parking near wembley just google green man pub £20 and great pre match atmosphere etc
