Wembley: Pre-Match Plan

It'll take a lot longer than 25 minutes to get from Moorgate to Wembley Park. City is dead at weekends. You'd be better off drinking around King's Cross itself.
Just tapping into your local knowledge CB .. any boozers you’d particularly recommend nowadays in Camden .. used to go in Worlds End , Hawley & Elephants Head in the past but haven’t been for a while .. not after owt special or craft beer etc just a few decent boozers ? TIA 👍

Was never gone on the World's End. Hawley serves excellent Guinness. Can't go wrong with Oxford Arms, Elephant's Head and Hawley. You also have the option of the large Wetherspoons on the Lock nearby. The Ice Wharf. Walk towards Chalk Farm tube station and you have the Lock Tavern and The Enterprise. I like the Enterprise. Also The Pembroke Castle in Primrose Hill is a 5 minute walk from Chalk Farm tube.Tube or bus to Finchley Road, Swiss Cottage. Wembley is 1 or 2 stops from Finchley Road tube. I'm unsure whether to drink or not Saturday. Might decide to take in the occasion sober for a change!

Great recommendations.

I'll be arriving at King's Cross just before 9.45. I've booked a London Walk at 10.45 which ends near Tower Hill at 12.45. It wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea but afterwards I should know all about the Empire and how the tea trade developed ( or maybe I won't!) I'll then catch the metropolitan line from Aldgate to Wembley Park.

Baker Street is a great place to sup due to the number of bars and where it is on the Metropolitan line. Marleybone and Paddington decent for Bakerloo and if your seat is opposite side to royal box you go into Wembley Central.
Street as in baker is crap. Globe crap and spoons crap. town as in Camden for us lot.

I think you've convinced me.

Thing is time. You won't have time to do all of it pre-match. But yes, it's a good stretch. The high street by the Elephant's Head is pedestrianised now. 31 bus from Camden or Chalk Farm drops you off at Finchley Road tube in 15/20 mins which is one stop to Wembley. Also the North Star on Finchley Road is a decent pit stop. You cannot get a tube between Camden and Finchley Road I just realised. Beware of that.

Pre-City there were a lot of Blades in Camden and barely any City. Loads of Blades in Elephants and Oxford Arms. The Ice Wharf is the best Spoons around the area.

Think we're planning on giving the pubs a miss and having a sophisticated day, take in some of the sights... 9.20 train from Doncaster, first stop Madame Tussauds, followed by the Aquarium, London Eye, Spot of lunch in the Ivy if we get time. Then maybe round the afternoon off by throwing some cans of Stella at the Sunderland fans in Trafalgar Square

Driving down to High Wycombe first thing, train through to Marylebone as I'm with the kid and he wants to see a bit of central London, then make our way over to the ground. After the match get direct train from Wembley Stadium station back to High Wycombe to miss all the worst of the traffic. Cheers to whoever it was in Shoutbox tipped me off to the hybrid option.

Casually wake up at 9 ish, find lucky socks, amble down to T4, Brenda line to TCR, short tube to [redacted so small reasonably priced pub is not overrun], drink to half one, tube to Wembley Park

Me too, at my age the biggest thing to consider is needing a piss before h/t or f/t and missing a goal 😳

Yep. I thought I was getting seats at the end of the row but when I looked later on the 3D map I'm bang in the middle. You could miss 10 minutes going to the bogs and back at Wembley.

Minibus to Watford. Should be there nice and early so will be breakfast and beers in the spoons there before jumping on the train at Watford High Street for a 24 min journey to Wembley. Did this for the City semi 2 years ago and it worked an absolute treat after the game in avoiding the tedious hour upon hour queues of trying to get out from Wembley/Stanmore.
