To accommodate the minute silence for the Hillsborough Disaster.

http://www.thefa.com/news/2014/mar/hillsborough-kick-off-tribute-210314

As a mark of respect and remembrance for those who lost their lives as a result of the Hillsborough stadium disaster in April 1989, all FA Cup, Premier League, Football League and Football Conference matches taking place on the weekend of 11-14 April will kick-off seven minutes later than originally scheduled.

The match at which the disaster took place, The FA Cup Semi-Final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest on 15 April 1989, was ended six minutes after kick-off, at 3:06pm.

The first FA Cup Semi-Final on Saturday 12 April between Wigan Athletic and Arsenal will now kick-off at 5.07pm with a minute of silence between 5:06pm and 5:07pm.

The following day, Sunday 13 April, will see Hull City v Sheffield United begin at 4.07pm with a minute of silence between 4:06pm and 4:07pm...

Nice idea but I have this awful feeling that some our "fans" will forget the tragedy and think only of Swillsborough.

I hope they don't show us up ...

And we all know that will happen unfortunately.

Hang on, you're talking about the fans who observed an immaculate minute's silence at Hillsbro' for the 2 weds lads who died en route to Coventry. Think we should give ourselves a bit more credit - I'd like to think we're a much classier bunch than that.

Out fans in the past have generally been good eggs on occasions like this. We played Wendy at Hillsborough in '06 and there was a minutes silence for a couple of Wednesday fans who had died in a car accident travelling back from an away game, if I remember correctly all Blades stood in complete silence.

I do hope so but there will be 30k there not 5k.

TBH I'm getting a little tired of the number of reasons to pay tribute, remember, commemorate etc. Football for me is escapism and entertainment. Whilst I do appreciate we need to remember the events they should be kept to local rememberance unless it's a national event eg rememberance Sunday. Bradford fans must get a bit rattled when we are all remembering liverpool fans but no one bothers to commemorate the tragedy and loss of life that was shown so graphically on live TV in the Bradford fire.
Respect to those past but let's keep it to the local teams affected.

I find it difficult to entertain the idea of people thinking that football fans in general and Blades in particular would be nothing but 100% respectful of any club that wants to mark the respect of something ike the H'boro disaster.

We all have our own thoughts of what happened but respect for the 96 who died through no fault of their own will be maintained by all.

Whether some Blades want to cling to the hope the Sheffield Council and/or SWFC will be held ultimately responsible for what happened, particularly round the alleged lack of safety certificate and would therefore wallow in that is another matter.

Suggesting Blades will not respect the 96 is an insult to our fans and our Club.

UTB.

Well said.
Be quite an emotion for the gaffer as well then .Totally forgot that he was playing that day.

But it isn't the anniversary even. The nearest Sunday to it, but I'm not sure why we need to keep having it annually.

That Forest lineup has surprised me a bit, I'd forgotten Chapman was there and who the heck is Gaynor?

If South Yorkshires finest, SCC and SWFC had done their jobs we wouldn't be having it.

Doing so helps keep it alive and moves things closer to justice one day.

Tommy Gaynor was an Irish player signed from Doncaster Rovers. I think he scored both goals for Forest when they beat us by 2-0 on Easter Monday 1991

The club is getting to be respectful of itself again as well as by others. It would be a shame and would also not do our players any good stood round a centre circle hearing a few disrespectful mindless idiots.

.
and the ones who died at Heysel seem to be conveniently forgotten too

25th Anniversary mate
OK I will accept that. Don't get me wrong, I have great sympathy with the fans that died and their families, it just seems there is a minute's silence/applause too often these days. Are all games that weekend doing the same, or is it because we are a Sheffield team that it is happening?

There are always memorials, but the football league finishes before 11th May these days so we've not witnessed the minute silence etc.

The last match of the Premiership season this year is on 11th May so I would expect some sort of remembrance to be part of those games.

The other semi is doing the same. I think it's just our 2 matches doing it. Could be wrong though

All teams fixtures on that weekend are all kicking off 7 mins later than the normal k o time not just ours nyb

It is often over enthusiastic late comers , that dont realize what is going on , that spoil minutes silences , then its usually Gobby opposing fans that are telling them to be quite , that make the most racket . The nosiest minutes silence i ever heard was for Robert Maxwell at Derby , epic fail by some one well out of touch with fans feelings .
