If he would take a three-year contract at 35k a week then yes. But as he’s likely to be on more than twice that at the moment, I’d say chances are slim.

He can stay fit for about 15 minutes. Not a wise choice to saddle us with a massive long term contract for a crock imo.

I thought we wanted a pacey striker that can score goals?

He would be great signing if he wasn't on high wages(100k+). If anyone can persuade to join it is wilder

It's a no from me.

Will be on high wages and would likely not be worth them as he'll spend half the season put injured anyway.

Same as Daniel sturridge. We need players we can rely on for 30+ league games next season.

I expect he'll sign for a club that signs players based on their "big name factor"...... Probably West ham

McGoldrick’s injury record wasn’t exactly stellar before joining us. I think player wellbeing is something the club particularly excel at. Outside of impact injuries, we seem to suffer minimal muscle injuries, ACLs etc. That suggests players are sensibly prepared and look after. If Wellbeck is available as a sensible package, his injury record wouldn’t overly bother me.

We're not going to find a player who we can rely on for 20 goals never mind 30+

No chance

His record makes no difference, no chance a player from Arsenal is coming to United, least one that’s played in their first team and England

With the possible exception of Sturridge, I am struggling to think of a better example of a player who is the antithesis of the type CW will be after.

Agree he will be heading to somewhere like West Ham who will happily pay his extortionate salary in return for him playing 8 games a season and scoring once - just as they've done with Jack Wheelchair.

That’s £5.5 million on a players who’s struggled to make 60 appearances over 4 seasons. If he wants to rebuild his career like McGoldrick and will take pay as you play contract which becomes a full deal after 30 games or similar, then maybe. But I have no expectation that he would entertain anything so weighted in our favour.

You're probably right. The point I was really trying to make was that we'd never pay the sort of money he's on now, especially given his injury record. 35 grand a week would represent at least a 50% pay cut for Welbeck, and possibly more--it wouldn't surprise me if he's pushing 100k a week. So, whichever way you look at it, it's not going to happen.

From now on every player with a dodgy injury record will be compared to McGoldrick! :D

We shouldn’t rule out anyone and with our budget we’re going to have to take some chances on injury prone players occasionally.

There's nothing wrong with thinking of bringing Danny Welbeck in.

28 years old is still a good age.

If there is a joint agreement between club and player as to his injury issues, then have a low basic wage and payments for games and goals.

The lad is good enough to play up top for us - IF he retains fitness.

Players salaries have gone bonkers at Prem level - some of them have to be imaginative when they have issues like Welbeck does.

He has the experience we need to stay in this division at the top of the pitch.

McG record suggests we took a bit of a gamble - which paid off. Welbeck is similar.

UTB

The Welbeck of 5 years ago is just the type of player we should be looking for. Young PL player who can't break into the first team of a top 8 team but has the raw materials.

Sadly the Welbeck of 2019 is a multi-millionaire who has realised he can earn a tidy living recuperating from injuries. West Ham or Everton will probably over-pay for the player he could be (a la Wiltshire) as opposed to the player he actually is.

We've got a crock worth taking a risk on, Coutts.

Not for me, can’t even get on the bench at the minute.

At the minute, see how he is with a couple of weeks of pre-season.

To be honest though I do feel his body language throughout the celebrations has not given the impression he's on top of it.

His was an awful injury and one I had myself (almost identical). Obviously very different levels but it took me ~2 years to get back to anything like and I still lost a couple of yards of pace. It looks as though Coutts' recovery is not too disimilar. That, as well as the big step up to the Prem really makes me think he won't ever get back into competiton for the first team (as much as I'd like him to). Considering his age, it may be best all round to release him and let him find another club. I'm sure a number of lower Champ and top L1 sides would be keen.

As much as common sense might dictate moving Coutts on, there's only so many players Tufty can buy. Plus, he won't want to be buying & integrating c10 players into the squad.

Personally I see Coutts sticking around and being decent understudy to Norwood. We may be a CM but will need Coutts and Lunny around. Again this isn't Championship Manager.

Wilder will have his hands full trying to find the 2 or 3 CF's we'll need to score us the goals we'll need to stay up. If you look at Cardiff this season, the one area they've struggled is the final third and until Leon's purple patch last season, it was the area we found hardest when we were promoted to the Championship.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Wilder does approach the likes of Welbeck with McGoldrick style proposal just a shame it’s almost certain it would get rebuffed
