Snippet from an interview with McCabe. He reckons that if we didn't go up next season but showed "improvement" then the fans would be pleased, or at least would accept that "it takes time".

Well Kev, I can only speak for myself but I certainly would neither be pleased nor accepting after 6 years and counting. Especially given that time is the one thing your managers don't get.

I think he was trying to say that under some circumstances he wouldn't sack Wilder if he didn't get us up next season. But I don't believe him.

Just setting the Bar for his own performance as low as he can ................. thats all

What he's basically saying is there were no signs of improvement for next season, this season gone. Which is correct.

He then follows that up by saying that although we'd all like promotion, if there's signs of improvement, this would be a step forward and something to build on.

Think he goes too far by saying we'd be pleased or accepting, personally I'm never pleased or accepting of anything but 1st or 2nd in this division.

Could our smug bastard of a chairman explain how our budget was bigger than Wigan's

Their players are on Championship wages. They signed a lot of players. They had a parachute payment.

We spent (allegedly) £1.5 million on players and wages.
We sold a player for £1.5 million and then his, and everyone who Adkins shipped out to add in terms of wage bills.

I would guess the club made at least £1 million more than it spent on fees and wages.

As for happy with improvement. Er, no. I wonder why a team doesn't show evidence of getting stronger when the manager struggles to bring anyone in yet has to ship loads out. We need to make the play-offs.

He'll be spouting this shit come 2020 after sacking the 14th manager in 14 years.

Translated - We're not going to spend anything and will probably sell Che, Done and Long.

He's such a tool.

What sort of figure do you think the overall wage bill was?

off the top of my head that is. It'll be in the accounts but, if I remember correctly, it's not listed as straight-forwardly as you'd expect.

So your calculation of a £1 million profit is based on?

Guesswork, heresay and rumour. The backbone of this forum.

Rumour has it that Adkins spent £1.5 million on players last season. Since he only signed Billy for a fee then you're looking at a million between Hammondo, Woolfordo, Baptisteo, Edgar and possibly Sammonado.

If we're saying Smurf went for £1.5 then you have his, and the wages, of ever player no longer on the books at the end of the season. A millions seems reasonable. Possible slightly less.

That £1.5m outlay figure wasn't including Sammon or Baptiste's wages if you look back on the post where that figure came from.

The same guy also said Sammon was our highest earner.

If we go for a ballpark figure and say Sammon was on about £7.5k a week, that's another £360k right there.

I believe it wasn't included as none of us believe Adkins signed Sammon.

I've had enough of continual 12 month "bouncing back" plans, now is the time for us to concentrate on moving forward as a club and improving the squad year by year.

My expectations from Wilder is

  • a clearly defined, modern, effective playing style
  • confidence in his own football philosophy
  • well balanced team selections
  • an open mind and honesty when assessing players and performances
  • him looking for players that fit each role, and whose attributes complement the other players
  • preventing collective weaknesses to become a problem (i.e. lack of pace, height, leadership, skill, goal-scoring ability)
  • professionalism and right attitude from every player
Let's not look too much at the table, certainly early on. Focus on enjoying the football and us moving in the right direction. I'm sure promotion will happen sooner that way.

It might have been set up by Clough, Adkins still went through with it.

I don't believe that for one second. If it was agreed between the clubs before Adkins arrived then he wouldn't be able to get out of it (unless both clubs agreed).

Agree 100%. But do your expectations include succession planning within the squad? Or is that too much to ask when managers only get a year at it?
